Be interesting to see how they do back the SPL after a 4 year absence. You look at that squad and it's still a good ways behind what Celtic have. I'd love to know what's gone wrong between Cammy Bell and Warburton. Even accounting for his injury, he's been completely out of the picture and not even making the bench most weeks. Goram was all over him begging Rangers to sign him before they did, saying Bell was even better than he was at that age! And when big Andy talks on 'keepers, I tend to listen.

Player for player celtic are better but rangers are a more cohesive unit at the moment. I expect them to get at least second though hearts are looking promising next season. Bell has two problems. First he can't stay fit. The second is mental. After 4 years of playing against lower opposition he has got complacent and can't seem to find that next gear he has. He also hasn't got over his howler against the mighty well in the relagation play off last year.

The undersized part of his game shouldn't be too much of an issue as everyone is up here compared to the English game(I blame the lack of sunlight and poor diet!). Disapointing that warburton is sorting rangers out a lot more fun when they were a mess.

In other news De Boer steps down as Ajax boss, already linked with Everton. Hard to really grade De Boer as a manager as Ajax should be challenging for titles and they have a philosophy on how Ajax should play football already in place.

They've won the title five years in a row so it's all relative(I've yet to see my team win a cup!). There's just a lethargy around the club since rangers have been gone they've had no competition domestically and in Europe they've been left behind financially. So the club stopped spending money and the quality of the squad has dipped(this is the worst celtic side since john Barnes managed them). With rangers back and a new manager coming id expect to see a massive turnover in players as they start up their arms race with rangers again.

GHH is the only one I know who still watches Italian football live. The games are so slow.

Fair point with Italy, though the money is hurting them more than anything else. I really think that entire league is in for hard times.

I watch Italian football but that's only because Roma are my 'second team' but the quality is diminishing and the main reason I got into Italian football in the first place was because the tv show football italia which was a great highlights show on channel 4 back in the day.

Well, if you are reading the context of the discussion, it's 3rd in terms of competition.

1) Scotland (Celtic - though hopefully with Rangers up next year it's competitive)

2) Ligue 1 (clearly PSG...)

3) Bundesliga - (Bayern Munich, Dortmund gives it a good run every now and then)

Would agree with the top two. But I would have serie A ahead of the bundesliga. Juve are further ahead of Roma and Napoli than Bayern are of Dortmund and Wolfsburg.

Well, to be fair to Jupp, they weren't just a counter-attacking side. They played more fluid, attacking soccer and not the deliberate build-up under Pep. I'd put money on Atleti as the last 2 sides to beat Bayern in the CL semi-finals have gone on to win the whole thing.

True I was being over simplistic but will always remember that semi final against barca when they destroyed barca by inviting them to attack and then just picking them off.

Can't see city getting back into this they are looking pretty toothless in midfield and struggling to pin down modric who pulling the strings.

On another note Luca Toni retires was a good battering ram of a centre forward and one of the few professional athletes I've met was a class act.

The biggest thing for bayern is not giving athletico a result that means they don't have to come out and attack in the second leg. I wouldn't count out real, a fit Ronaldo and bale are very hard to stop. City are here as hart seems to have found some form and when you have aguero you're guaranteed a goal over two legs.

01/02. The single best version EVER!. The best thing since Subbuteto! It seems so basic no with just the flashing text during games. But it's the baseness that makes it so memorably brilliant. Everything was so crisp and fresh back then when they cleaned up the interface. That was when you really started getting into it when you'd put it on, and be in the 'just one more game stage', and REGULARLY before you knew it the birds were chirping outside and you'd look out and it was the following morning already lol.

My brother still refuses to anything apart from text bar for watching matches. The other options are 'too flashy'. My favourite was 2013 but that's mainly because I managed to win the african champions league with an entire 11 brought through my youth squad.

The football's worse than ****e. The players have stopped playing for him. He's turned on them and has hung a few out to dry. And every time he opens his mouth he comes out with utter, embarrassing B/S telling them they've watched a completely different game to the ****e they've just sat through. You can't blag a Scouser. We know football and when it's utter ****e, it's utter ****e.

And he's now presided over the most embarrassing Merseyside Derby performance I think I've ever seen.

This where being around a city and watching things live make the difference. From an outsiders view who just see's highlights on MOTD things didn't seem that bad.

For no European cup ties ended up being a great night of football. Watched Roma Torino hibs rangers, the mersyside derby and Bilbao athletico(thank god for sports pubs). And finishing it off with Madrid villarreal. The derby showed how much confidence plays a part in sport. One had talent and confidence. The other was devoid of both.

By the way I would add that this years Premier League is the worst overall season I can recall from a quality of football perspective. Its been very very average at best. Its a lot more interesting than last year - but some very poor football.

Would agree especially the quality of defending has been abysmal. LCFC are where they are as they've just been more consistent than anyone. O quote my favourite football journalist Tim Vickery. It's been competitive but don't mistake competitiveness for quality.

I don't understand why everton fans are so angry about Martinez. They are soft defensively but Martinez has them safe and in a cup semi final. Everything about them is mid table. If I was top 4 team the only players id be interested in would be stones and lukaku.

I think if you go back and read this thread (why you'd want to I have no idea!) but most of us supported Rodgers until the end of last season.

He's a mid-table manager with mid-table ideas. He was never going to get these performances out of the players and he had long lost the room by Gerrard's final match at Stoke.

I was just on the wind up don't worry. Would agree was just like moyes good manager but just out of his depth at a big club.
