  1. In retrospect, projecting rookies to be good defensively is a fool's errand. Bismack Biyombo was supposed to be Ben Wallae day one too. Fact is, rookies usually suck defensively. It's such an adjustment on that end of the court in the NBA. Especially for a guy like Singleton, who gets to guard the LeBrons, Paul Pierces, and Carmelos of the league. NBA players are incredibly crafty scorers. Takes experience and a lot of cerebral prep to be a good defender.

The problem for me is that I wasn't encouraged at any point by his play. Iman was locking up stars this past season...Singleton didn't even strap mediocre guys up.

But, here's to hoping he shows something this season...

  2. With Singleton, his value is based on potential. He's got the potential to be a classic 3 and D player. He's got a clear cut NBA position and role that every team would find value in. He should eventuall be able to defend guards, wings, and stretch forwards well. That's high value. We'll need him for when Ariza is gone.

I guess the most disappointing part is that he was supposed to come in to the league with the ability to guard 1-4. All the draftniks talked about how good of a defender he could be from day one. I get that it takes some folks more time than others to adjust to the NBA game, but I wouldn't say that his performance last year was promising.

  3. What exactly have you seen from Singleton as a pro that would leave you to believe that he has all this "potential?" Outside of Shelvin Mack/Blatche, he was one of the worst Wizards last year. I don't see it at all with Chris Singleton. Dude looked like a deer in headlights.

Injuries aside, Booker has shown that he can play in the NBA. Singleton looks to be nothing more than a journeyman NBA player AT BEST. Hindsight is 20/20, but I really wish we could get a mulligan and take Iman Shumpert.

Shumpert was taken right before Singleton...but, I agree with you. I saw nothing to be excited about from Singleton last year. I was disappointed by basically every aspect of his game...

I haven't completely written him off yet, but he's not one of the guys that I'm looking forward to watching this coming season...

  4. They asked Singleton. He said he would go with Harri Barnes

"We feel like he can play the 2 or the 3, and that's what we need help with," says Singleton. "We know he can shoot, and with the Wizards being more of an open offense, people can't focus on him; he'll fit right in with us." (Barnes scored 17.1 ppg and shot 36 percent of 3-pointers.)

  5. The one problem I have with the trade, if Beal is the obvious choice, why not wait until draft night? There is still an outside chance Beal goes to the Bobcats. I guess it really does mean we are happy with Beal/MKG. Hopefully, Beal is there at 2.

The solid core we would have with the new veterans could get us to an 8th or 7th seed, anything higher would be dependent upon the progress of our young guys.

I remember reading that the Wizards were a team that thought Harri Barnes could play the 2...maybe he's the choice if Beal is off the board.

Not a big fan of Barnes at the 2...
