  1. It looks to me like the stats would need to be in a separate table, linked through a common index like the first and last names. Does this sound right to you?

Also, there seems to be limited stats info - I didn't see any for a random selection of D players or K/P, just for O guys. I could always find missing stats via interweb.

I can try to mock up a quick Excel sheet and enter info for a few players. Then I could share that with you to see if I'm on the right track. Or, you could specify the fields you want in an Excel file and send me that for me to populate. What do you think? Too crazy?

You are right. I will be setting up a relational DB with many tables. But I can do that during the import. You don't need to worry about that on the spreadsheet.

I noticed that Kicker and the like were missing stats too. Looks like the guy never updated those. We will need to do that.

Take a look at the headings from each player in each position and that will give you your headings for the columns. Not all rows will be populated for each player. But at least that will give me all the fields to be imported into the DB.

    Crazy no. Extreme yes. :D

  2. Are those the only field you'll need? Also, after college in your list above I see "Stats" is that a typo?

I noticed in the individual player pages that there is a full name - for this list you'd only want first and last, correct?

No that was just the sample I was showing as to how to lay down the info in the Excel spreadsheet as to how the import won't work if the info laid down in a different manner in the spread sheet.

I would need all the info first, last, middle the whole nine yard so to speak. For the stats we only need to worry about is their Skins stats.

  3. You don't mean compile in a compile-the-front-end-of-the-database sort of way right? If you mean you need someone to type the data into Excel and then double-check it, I can do that.

The 1600 static pages are available on your domain right?

I mean just have the data in columns and rows that can be imported into a DB.

The data should look like this in Excel:

Jersey FirstName LastName HighSchool College Stats

    ------------------------------------------------

11 Patrick Ramsey Ruston (LA) Tulane

I have it on my domain and you can even go to redskinsdb.com and get the data off of that website as well.

  4. Exactly. So what you're saying is, once that db goes down, the "years they played" goes down with it.

So I don't see the value of your download.

    Maybe I'm missing something....

Yes. I think.... I have a page on every player that played for the Skins now with all the stats like I posted in my image earlier. (Look at the URL in that image it is sitting on my website domain).

So if the other site's db goes down it won't matter. A query has already been done on all of the players and the data has been posted to one HTML page per player that was in the DB. Static. I now have 1600 pages of data that use to be in the DB. Which I would need to put back into a DB if we really want this project to move forward.

    I hope that helps. :)

  5. So you're saying when his site goes down, you can still access all that via your stand alone download?

Yes as long as you don't use the search button. :)

For the search button to work I would need to recreate the db and redo the search code.

The program I used queried the db on that website and converted it into static web pages. All that info would need to be put back into a DB. But the important part is, at least for right now, we have the data and we can rebuild. :)

  6. That's the same data I have, but as you can see, it's missing the years they played.

But if you actually use the site to access the db, it includes the years they played and the birth date, birth place, and HS

Here is the screen shot from my upload. I am seeing the info on the left hand side.

  7. Are you sure you have all the data? I grabbed some data too, A through Z like a year ago, put it all in a text file, but I don't have the "years they played" which is kind of important. And I don't know how to get it, other than one player at a time.

I also don't have birth date and high school and birth place. All that stuff is listed somewhere else and I don't know how to get to it.

I just uploaded what I downloaded to my website:

    http://theredskins.ghznetworks.com/skinsdb/player

Just don't press the search button as it will re-direct you to his website since the code under the search button is still pointing to redskinsdb.com (root).

If you just press the player by letter you will see that all the data did get downloaded -hopefully.

But, let me know if it is missing anything though.

Shouldn't DH or Blade already have this db? And do we know how out dated it is?

  8. Thanks MTH. It's understandable but sad. Based on a few of the earlier posts I'm curious to see if someone else tries to pick this up and run with it.
Well, they'd better get started because they have a whole lot of data entry to do.

And a fancy search routine to write.

    :)

I have already backed up redskinsdb.com website to my computer in case he doesn't renew his domain and all that data is gone.

No fancy search routine needed. The site can be done in simple ASP with MS Access as the data source. It can also be done in PHP and MySql which I am not good with.

If someone can compile the data in Excel spreadsheet I can import it into a DB. I just don't have time to do both.

  9. Nice find, TK.

Re "Founded in 2000 by Tony DiMarco and currently owned by DiMarco, Eric Leichter and Mark Steven,..."

I knew about this, but I've been waiting for more details from Om. He promised me he'd send something, but it's been almost a week...

I will link this article into the OP somewhere....

Edit: The link seems to be dead. That sucks. I'll link to your post instead.

Here is a working link for you: http://www.redskins.com/gen/articles/Redskins_com_Adds_Fan_Forum__Chats_3099.jsp

  10. Thank you Mark for putting this together. Now I now who is the face behind - Hi There. :) and other as well.

I am now just wondering what is a better star-up story now: Microsoft or ES? :)

Is there any possibility of updating the players database? I could help. And could host the DB on my company's website (which I own) if needed for no charge. :)

  11. Now that Colt isn't playing well, the Cult thinks everyone should switch their focus to the starters, rather than talk about Colt. When last year when he was doing well, they had more than enough guts to talk their mouth off about him.

Not all fans are cowards. ;)

Back to the friend: Maybe he should come to ES and read The Cult of Colt where we have exhausted his unintellectual ranting of Timmy Chang. Where we have showed and broke down the last pre-season as well. If you are a true friend then you should enlighten him that if one is more educated then one can make more informed opinions.

  12. Does anyone know what uniforms we will be wearing against Dallas? I hope we wear the burgundy on burgundy. Uniforms have nothing to do with the play, so I hope we weer those again.

TK and other mods are not going to be very happy that you started this thread. Just a heads up.

I hear wrath of TK can be very severe. :silly:

  13. Pretty sure that Obama isn't "for" abortions, no one is "pro-abortion" that's just silly. :2cents:

After that I simply refuse to make this thread a political debate, unsonny just needed his change back.

Funny you say you refuse to make this thread a political one. Have you seen your sig lately?
