I guess optics don't matter.  Everyone pretty much agrees one of the weakest parts of this team in 2023 was the OL.  So you hire a guy who just got fired by a bad team because the OL on his former team sucked.  Ok makes sense to me.  There was nobody else who at least had a better track record on paper?  Geez.

My guess is Doug WIlliams knows about as much about who they are planning on drafting as the average person on this board.  

Im with you .  I wanted Sam to be the guy so bad.  I think as a fan base, our quarterback play has been so bad that we were enamored by the fact that the could sling it around and make some throws.  But in the last three weeks, it is hard to conclude there has been much growth since the beginning of the year.  39 points in three games.  That is just anemic.  You have a receiver that is being paid 23 million a year and you can't get him one catch in a game.  Some of that has to fall on the quarterback.   He looks like a back up at this point rather than a starter.

Nice job Ron.  Your coached defense gave up a tie for the most points given up in a game this year.  Furthermore, in a review of your stellar performance as a GM and talent evaluator, your defense which you spent a ton of high pick draft capital on has given up 90 points in the last two games and 121 points in the last three games.  Let that sink in for a minute.  I am sure Josh Harris will be sending you your super bowl ring when they win one.  However, after this season, that looks pretty far off.  

Talking about someone who has had a bad run. Mr. RR.  Assuming the Commanders lose another game this year (I will push all of my chips in on that one, Ron will be 6 seasons consecutively without a winning season.  During that time, with two organizations his record is 38 and 55.  

However here is my greater concern.  Since he left and through today, the Panthers are 18 and 43.  That is evidence that he left the cupboard pretty bear there from a talent standpoint and a player development standpoint.  Should we fear that same kind of hangover here after he is gone?  Think about it.  OL is a mess, tight ends are not good, defensive backs not good, linebackers are a train wreck and quarterback while showing promise remains unsettled.  

There is no way Ron thinks that #1, this change is going to cause them to run off a bunch of wins and #2 that this is going to save his job.  No way.  So why did he make this move when he has said over and over that he was not going to fire coaches.  There is only one answer.   Josh Harris, despite what his statement says, made this call.  He had to do something to save face with the fan base.  He is looking to the future.  This is a band aid that gets him to the end of the season with Ron and then they all go.

I am starting to agree with this post.  I was hopeful but to me, this has been a train wreck for EB not only for this team but also for any hope that he has for a head coaching position.  This **** show is not likely to change for the remainder of this season.  If they end up 4 and 13, regardless of if Howell throws for 300 yards on 60 attempts per game, who is exactly going to be sitting around the table saying we need to go get EB as our Head Coach.  

Going back to the original post, I don't see much to tear down.  

We started out the season telling you our fan base that this would be a season where we are setting back, taking notes and evaluating the entire process and product.  However, in no way did we expect you to witness the **** show you have witnessed on the field week after week.  Heck, peoples jobs were on the line for gods sake.  We expected they would be motivated to step up their game.  However, we have seen enough.  Coach RR has been relieved of his duties.  We fully realize there are many people involved in the  assimilation and performance of this team however he is the head coach and in effect the GM so he has to be held accountable first and foremost.   We understand and do not expect this change to have a meaningful impact on this season.  However, after losing twice to a division rival in the same season who by the way were starting a second and third string quarterback and who happens to be one of the worst teams in the NFL, we could not continue to stand/sit in the owners suite with our arms folded looking like our coach on the sidelines.  We have already begun our search for a competent General Manager for this team and that individuals first responsibility will to be to hire a young offensive minded coach to lead this team back to a place where we can at least be competitive on Sundays. 

Hope they lose to the Giants.  That would be so embarrassing to Ron on his way out.  And it would put the final nail in coffin of the RR reign.

Yep sure can.  Perennial losers.

He doesn't get credit for whatever Howell does in my book.  He said himself when asked why he didn't play last year was because they didn't realize what they had.  Really?  You scouted him, you drafted him, you had him in training camp, you coached him but yet you did not know what you had.  Well then you don't get credit for him now that he is playing well.  It just happens to be that he appears to have potential despite your ineptness to evaluate talent.  

I admit I have not seen the entire game but I did see from about mid third quarter to the end and in that stretch Howell and the offense were awful.  Frankly it was more of the Falcons losing the game than it was Washington winning.  Goes in the win column but not much growth to feel positive about in my opinion.  Alot of players on this roster that were supposed to be major contributors that are just not stepping up.  

I never heard so much talking in circles in my life.  Seems like a classic example of somebody trying to convince others that he is somebody that he really isn't.  

By my count, in the last 5 years we have drafted 8 offensive lineman.  Only one out of 8 turned out to be a reliable starter, Chase R.  The jury is still out on Cosmi (and he was a second rounder) because he can't stay on the field and now they are saying he can't be relied on to play tackle, the position he was drafted for.  In fact the other six have not even played much as backups.  A pretty dismal record in my view.  Based on that record, I wouldnt get to excited on any OL they draft until they are able to prove themselves.  

Have to admit, did not see this coming.  

I have no idea how successful EB will be here but I am excited about the hire for two reasons albeit they are higher level and trivial. 1.  We did not promote someone on the existing staff to this position who have participated in executing an awful offense over a number of years.  2.  The hire is not a RR retread from his days in Carolina.  For those two reasons alone we should be excited about the possibilities that a fresh and new set of eyes and ideas will bring.  

Kirk, I'll put you up some stats but I can't win you a big game, Cousins.  You have played all season, its fourth down, you need 8 yards to continue your drive in a playoff game on your home field in front of your home crowd, or you go home and you throw a 4 yard check down to a guy with a defender in his hip pocket. Really?  What an idiot.  

I watched the entire game and unless I missed it, and I could have, I never heard the broadcast mention one time about Snyder selling the team, maybe they have a new owner next year nothing.  Did I miss it?  If that is the case to me that is very strange.  Also never saw them pan in the suites for Dan and his group or Jerry Jones.  Again I found that to be really strange.  And then the Junkies said this morning that Dan was not at the game.  Is that really true?  They did this whole thing for Sonny and Dan was not even there.  Is that really true?  Does anyone know the truth?

Payne is number one for me. We have to resign him. He was at times completely dominant this year. Cant let him leave.

Slye needs competition in camp. Wouldnt even mind a FA rookie in camp to compete against him.

The OL needs pretty much a full overhaul. First rounder needs to go there IMO. 

Need a starting CB out of the draft as well.

Need to get Reaves back as well. He is a UFA. 

 

Defense is pretty solid overall IMO. Offense has plenty of weapons. Fix the OL, add some secondary depth and let Howell learn this off season and this is a playoff team. 

 

Not a chance they are resigning Payne.  He is going to command too much based on his play this past year.  They are going to need to spend that money on the OL.  

I will eat crow because I went on the record in the second quarter after all the squandered opportunities that they would lose.  I am surprised honestly.

Observations from the game. That was not just a freak win.  That was an ass kicking.  The defense was impressive and even more so when you consider how many starters were not playing.  I was impressed with Howell.  Did he have stellar numbers, no.  But he played pretty well.  Made some nice throws and did a good job running.  Had one brain fart but other than that good job.  We found out he can throw the deep ball and he can lead an offense to more than 20 points in spite of Scott Turner.  Really impressed by the back up players who had to play tonight since so many starters were out.  From what I could tell everyone of them played well.  

My only regret is that if this is Dan's last game as the owner, and I am not convinced that it is, it would have been very fitting and satisfying for his last game to have been a loss to Dallas.  

Not that it matters but no way Washington wins this game.  I am calling it now.  You just can't give that many opportunities away to a good team.  They will get it together and we will continue to squander opportunities.  That is who they are.

In case anyone is keeping score, it should be 28 zip and instead its 13.  Thats called a Scott Turner offense.  

And that is why this team basically scores less than 20 points every Sunday which translates into losses in the modern NFL.  Three trips to red zone and you get 7 points.  That is a formula to be a bottom feeder in the NFL, which they are.  

Now there is the real Washington team.  Given the ball on your opponents 15 yard line and you come away with NOTHING.
