  1. You are really confused, aren't you? The Skins didn't wear white pants at home for 25 years. The Skins wore white pants at home only seven seasons (please feel free to add any I'm missing): 1980 (when Jack Pardee introduced the white pants), 2001, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008. They made they playoffs two of the seven years. White pants at home have no correlation with winning. I'm not sure how I can make that any clearer to you.

The burgundy jerseys at home, on the other hand, have a 29-straight-season correlation with losing.

So your example is absolutely irrelevant.

The Skins introduced the white pants in 1979, not 1980. They wore burgundy jerseys at home in 1979 and '80, before Gibbs' arrival. They didn't wear white pants at home in 2007, as they wore white jerseys/burg pants or the Radio Shack throwbacks for all their home games that year.

  2. I had to quote this simply because I think it's the first post of yours where you're not taking a swipe at either Dan Or Vinny or both. :)

Give me time, I'm sure I'll think of something! ;)

Honestly, I DID like that Snyder brought back the throwbacks in 2002 and the Radio Shack helmet in 2007. Some teams ignore their heritage completely, and other teams toss aside good uniforms for trendy modern uniforms with stripes all over the place...a route Snyder could have taken but has wisely chosen not to.

  3. I wanted to clear up the misconception that the redskins have only worn all burgundy once. Not true. I dont remember which year, but had to be the early 80's because Joey T. was QB. Skins played a game on the road where the team knew we would be wearing our burgundy jerseys because the other team opted for white. Well, the team manager screwed it up and sent the burgundy pants along instead of the white. The skins lost the game and Gibbs was pissed. At the game and the ugly unis.

Not true. They even said on the radio last year that the Steelers game was the first time EVER that the Skins had worn that combo. And I've seen every Skins game from 1979 onwards. Something like this would have been caught by NFL Films, because it happened in 1964 to the Vikings, when they played one full half against the Lions with BOTH teams wearing white jerseys...at halftime the Vikings changed to purple on the sidelines.

  4. I remember when we had those throwback uniforms on during the NFL's anniversery season that one season in the mid-90s and I was watching the Redskins play and my Uncle walked in and checked out the football game I was watching and his first reaction was "Eww man! Who's wearing those ugly uniforms!?" and he pointed out the Redskins colors. He had no clue who was playing with those throwback uniforms.

Your uncle must not be much of a fan, if he couldn't recognize the classic Redskins uniforms from the Juregensen/Lombardi era.

  5. http://theredskinsblog.com/2008/07/28/back-to-the-equipment-room-brad-on-jersey-colors-etc/

I searched and didn't see this, so here goes:

Finally managed to ask Brad Berlin the other questions about equipment that had come in since I first spoke to him.

Any word on alternative uniforms this year?

Nope. None. The ones last year were special for the 75th anniversary, but we don’t have anything lined up this year.

Not even a third color jersey?

    Nope. Burgundy and white.

Along those lines, Gibbs seemed to prefer the white jersey with the burgundy pants. Some players have claimed to prefer the burgundy jerseys with white pants. Any idea how things will go this year?

We’ll be wearing the white jerseys with the burgundy pants at home until, I think, the Pittsburgh game. After that, burgundy with white pants. Coach Zorn thinks it will help with the heat. For away games, we’re at the mercy of the home team — like Dallas always wears white at home, so we always wear the burgundy in Dallas.

How much ice do you go through for a game?

    1,000 pounds per game.

Someone thought it looked like LaRon Landry and Pete Kendall were wearing old pads. Do–

(Shaking his head.) No, they’re all new pads. There are some that are unique looking, and some that are gray or white that might have looked old, but they’re all new, all maintained and updated for each game.

Do players get to choose whatever cage or face mask they want?

Yes. Most of them are position-specific, but they can have whatever they want. There’s like 51 models available and I’ve got 45 of them.

What about visors? What’s the visor policy?

By league rule you can only wear clear. You have to have medical clearance, and it has to come from the NFL office’s doctor to approve dark. League-wide, there’s only 7 or 8 guys who can wear dark, and if you wear one and you’re not approved, you get fined for it.

    Is it different during preseason?

Yeah, Stuart Schweigert has one, but for the game I’ll have to take it off.

  6. Since it has been almost 30 years since we have had a uniform change, I for one would love to see the skins in different unis.

Burgandy shirts with gold pants. Not to look like the 70's unis, but a more modern form of the old unis.

Agreed. The Skins haven't changed their uniforms since 1979, when disco was still popular. The only team to go longer than that without any kind of change is the Raiders...who will NEVER change.

  7. does anybody else like the '72 uniforms or is it just me?

i hear everybody say how the jerseys need to be burgundy and the pants gold but they want to keep the helmet we have now.

well the '72 uniforms are all of those.

Those would be my second choice, and it's surprisng the Skins only kept those unis for 7 seasons, from 1972-78. They went to the playoffs 4 times during that span, too.

I hear some fans saying the Skins should keep their 1979 uniforms since they won 3 Super Bowls in them. Well, the Giants changed after winning 2 SBs, and the Skins changed after winning 2 NFL Championships in the 40s too!!

  8. Gibbs has retired, so it's time to retire the tradition of the white jersey/burgundy pants at home....except for 1-2 games a year as a throwback.

Bring on the 2002 spear helmet throwback! That gold is awesome, and the burgundy is much darker and richer looking. Burgundy jerseys at home!!

If you think that NFL teams shouldn't change tradition...well, the Browns wore white at home for 11 straight years, and then switched to brown back in the 70s. The Chargers wore white for six straight years when Fouts was there, too.

    It can be done...

  9. Oh, good to know...I never knew that. I still think it should change now that the Gibbs Dynasty is over.

Where did you hear that? I've heard Gibbs himself say in interviews over the years that it was HIM who decided on the white jerseys at home in 1981, because for some reason he hates colored jerseys. If Beathard was the one, why didn't he do the same thing when he went to the Chargers?

  10. Folks, NONE of this is ever going to happen as long as Grandpa Gibbs is still in town. It's a well-known fact that he HATES all of the throwback unis and HATES the burgundy jersey, which is why they started wearing white at home in 1981.

Personally, the Skins need to change this uni that they've had since 1979 with no changes whatsoever. The updated spear helmet throwback is a great idea...but only if they wear the BURGUNDY jerseys at home.

    All-burgundy looks like this:

    197601~Anchorman-Posters.jpg

  11. The white ones are weak, I really don't know why the didn't go with a dark version.

Because Joe Gibbs is a White Jersey Supremacist. For some reason, he HATES colored jerseys, which is why the Skins have worn white at home since 1981 when he first took over. Never mind that the Skins wore their burgundy jerseys at home when they had this throwback...which is why they wore the white one this year against the Giants. Not historically correct, unlike in 1994 when they wore the 30s throwback with the dark jersey against the Falcons.

  12. Joe Gibbs suffers from a rare condition known as Blandboringuniformitis. The first indication of this disorder was when he took over the Skins in 1981 and stated that he didn't like the burgundy jersey/white pants look...thereby forcing fans to watch the Skins wear the white jersey/burgundy pants combo for 13-15 games out of 16 every season. Football fans everywhere were enraged at not being able to tell whether the Skins were playing at home or not on TV, and accused him of trying to copy the Cowboys. But he won a few Super Bowls so people shut up.

Gibbs likely contracted this disease while an assistant coach with the Chargers, who wore white at home from 1978-83, rarely ever showing off their beautiful blue jerseys. When Gibbs returned in 2004, he proved that he had not yet recovered from Blandboringuniformitis when he ditched the burgundy jerseys AGAIN, which had been worn at home from 2001-2003 for the most part.

But Gibbs condition worsened in 2005, when he suddenly declared that he didn't like the burgundy pants either, and the Skins went to the all-white look, which they had not had since the early 60s. It is likely that Clinton Portis' arrival in DC aggravated Gibbs' condition, as he was a lobbying force behind the all-white look. (Of course, Portis is likely suffering from something too, as he wanted to put 45 stripes on the Redskins' socks...)

Gibbs finally brought back the burgundy pants in 2006 when the so-called 'luck' of the all-white unis had run out. But he harbors an irrational hatred of the spear throwback uniforms, and didn't want the Radio Shack throwbacks either...unless the Skins could wear the white jerseys with them at home, which the 1970-71 Skins never did. cursing.gif

There is no known cure for this condition.

  13. So... below is what we're wearing at home this year.... for two games?

    kilmer.jpg

Definitely different..... and I'd love to see a good photo with the burgundy on gold combination from this same year.

Apparently so, even though this is WRONG WRONG WRONG!!!! The Skins NEVER wore white jerseys at home with that uniform...that didn't start until Gibbs came in 1981.

The Skins should honor history like they did with the 2002 throwbacks and wear the burgundy jersey with this uniform at home!! I guess it won't happen, though, since Gibbs is a well-known white-jersey-supremacist.

About that Kilmer picture...doesn't it look like ol' Billy is reaching for an imaginary cold brew?
