  1. Wow. Jeff Hardy is self-destructing.

correction, HAS self destructed. It's really sad because apparently, this guy has been given the ball on numerous times because someone at WWE saw something in Jeff.

It's not like he's a fringe talent enhancement player/jobber. He's been a tag team champ, an IC champ, a world champ...his merch sells like crazy and the kids/chicks love him.

the road and his pace must have taken a toll on his body...you guys are right, he won't be around for long...sad.

  2. I know how tough it is to get front row tix. The closest I've ever got was 3rd row for a RAW last year and I ordered my tix as soon as they went on sale.

If you can do it, go for it. The closest I ever got was 10 rows back at Starrcade (Hulk vs Sting) back in the day- and it was a hoot. You'll get a "better appreciation" for what these guys go through...plus, you never know, they might throw someone your way for some hardcore "clubbering"

also, you might here a wrestler or two call out their next move...always fun to hear that:doh:

  3. I'm in the minority on this team as the only thing that stood out about them to me was the endless Pillman 'whining' when they split.

Some I didn't see mentioned yet:

    Steamboat and Youngblood

The Eliminators (I can still hear Joey Styles screaming "Total Elimination!")

    Sabu and Van Dam

Garea and Martel FTW (Mirror versions of each others trunks :applause: )

I saw Steamboat and Snuka tag from time to time in the old WWF, that would've been a fun team to watch. Never caught Steamer and Youngblood in the old NWA/MidAtlantic

Sabu and Van Dam vs Daniels and Style would be a 5 star match. They could still probably pull it off.

I was a huge fan of the Killer Bees and Islanders (back when the WWF could afford to have mid card TAG TEAMS).

  4. You guys are talking tag teams & none of you have mentioned AJ Styles & Christopher Daniels.

Speaking of TNA tag teams, LAX with Konan had to have been one the most over heel teams I've seen in a long time. I was also a fan of AMW due to both the gimmick & the heat they had. Vinny Mac would ruin LAX like he did with the MexiCools, but I could see AMW getting over HUGE in WWE.

Styles and Daniels were very good, but their lack of longevity hurts them when you talk about all time greats.

I liked LAX, seemed like a more credible version of "Cryme Tyme"

Konnan as the mouthpiece was classic.

Not a fan of AMW...didn't know why...they had a hardcore "Smoking Guns" thing going that just seemed dated.

  5. A few things I want to say about Raw.

I'm keeping an EXTREMELY open mind towards the Kane/Mysterio Alive or Dead angle. I want this to work and I'm being optimistic but man its hard to be behind this. This has potential. St first I thought it would be more epic than Mysterio's mask- but upon further review I am keeping an open mind.

I love Jericho's new tights. Speaking of Y2J his match vs Kane at SS isn't hyped up in the slightest. This feud never developed. Why is this happening? An HBK run in?? or a Mysterio run in?

WHY did they give Cena and Batista the belts in the first place? They had it for one week! Ugh! This is why teams like the Dudley boys are seen as 8 time champions in the WWE because technically Rhodes and Dibiase (SP- I'm a fan of his) are now 2 X World Champions. What the hell was the point of a won week dropping of the titles? someone help me here

Ratings my man, ratings. Or titles are simply something to just further a story line. Titles mean nothing nowadays. Back in the day it was something to be the WORLD CHAMP, now, there are three "World" champs in one promotion, so you know it means nothing.

Why put the belts on such a young team like Rhodes and DiBiase anyway? Because there's no one else credible and there are, like, 3 tag teams anyway. Might as well give it to these two young guys in hopes that they can develop without being exposed and to possible further a stroyline (Orton coming back to be their "Flair".

  6. Good. randy Orton stinks.

As for Demolition, you guys are all stupid.... :)

Seriously, I didn't watch WCW as a kid, so I always thought the Road Warriors were a rip off of Demolition. I know better now, but Demolition was the **** when I was a kid. And what you know at 10 is always right.

The second I saw the Demos introduced, and think I dry heaved. The outfits were fine, but my gawd, if this was the WWF's answer to Hawk and Animal, they could've at least got guys in shape. Ax and Smash were fat ***es.

The Powers of Pain were a better group, but they didn't last long for some reason in the WWF. They were the perfect Warriors wannabe, since that was their whole angle in the NWA.

I watched both promotions, but leaned towards NWA/WCW because it seemed (oh my gawd, am I going to say this)...real  . Flair COULD lose, and did from time to time, while it was always Hogan starting strong- getting beat- hulking up- body slam/ leg drop- posing for years...rinse and repeat. Plus, NWA didn't have as many roid monsters...NWA wrestlers looked like "athletes".

  7. I can understand why people calling The Dudleys, (eff that Team 3D mess) overrated, but they are one of the most decorated tag teams. On top of that, if there was some sort of Fantasy Tag Team Tourney, I would have no problem with putting them in there (along with America's Most Wanted). The Dudleys may not have accomplished as much on a worldwide scale as the Road Warriors, but I put them in that same grouping as one of the better tag teams in Pro wrestling.

As for some of my all time fave tag teams.

    Road Warriors

    Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard

The Twin Towers (Sid Vicious and Mean Mark Kallous[The Taker])

    Harlem Heat

    The Steiners

    The British Bulldogs

    The Rock and Roll Express

    Tito Santana and Rick Martel

    The Hart Foundation

    The (Midnight) Rockers

    Rock and Sock Connection LOL

    Demolition

    The Dudleyz

    The Christopher Street Connection

    America's Most Wanted

    EDIT # 2

Forgot about Homicide and Low Ki.

And yeah, Orton being out an extra 3 months is no big loss. I just wonder how they will work his heel angle with JBL sucking up a good amount of the heat from the crowds.

No problem with the Dudley's being thought of as a good/above good tag team, and the "decoration" thing means that they can carry the ball for a promotion, which is a testament to their ability and appeal- but later in their WWE/F years they were a clown act (only about tables and the WASSUP drop), and their WCW tag team title reign was under the WWE/F flag, so it can't really be considered a "true" reign (but that's semantics).

I didn't mind Strike Force (Santana and Martel) but I would've loved to see how far the Can-Am Connection (Martel and Tom Zenk) would've gone in the WWF if Zenk didn't high tail it.

I would take out Rock and Sock since they weren't a true "regular" tag team. I would add Michael PS Hayes and Jimmy Jam Garvin (or Terry Bam Bam Gordy)...FREEDBIRDS BABY!!!!

  8. You said it. Honestly, between 85-87 I don't know if a team was ever as over as they were. Kids and young women absolutely loved them.

Catch an old video of their matches back then...the arena woud be deafening due to the amount of screaming girls. Arm Drag (SCREAM)...hip toss (SCREAM)...stand still (SCREAM LOUDER). It was wild.

Saw an old Windham/Flair match that was non stop action and cheering for 60 minutes...insane. You do two arm drags nowadays, and you start getting the BORING chant.

  9. The Rock n Roll Express have to be included even though I really didn't like them back then. To me, they were very good at taking a beating for 30 minutes to only win the match in the end. That used to drive me crazy.

Rock n Roll and Midnight Express...one of the greatest feuds (in terms of pure performance value) I've ever seen. I liked the RnR, but the double dropkick from two lightweights as a knockout finisher seems so hack now.

Morton could bump for the entire match, just take a pounding, and tag in Mr. Charisma, Robert Gibson for the super crowd pop.

  10. I like your list. To me Blanchard and Anderson was the absolute best I have ever seen. The Minesota wrecking crew of Ole and Arn Anderson was right up there too.

Another thing that made the Warriors so great is that they were one of the few teams that didn't need the titles to justify their greatness.

Exactly, that's why they were such a bonus for promoters who could have them. They didn't need the belts to get over, so they could have others teams establish themselves, win belts, etc. Then, if business is slow, you throw the Warriors into a feud to win the belts and get the crowd going.

After I sent out the email, I did think about Arn and Tully, who would be right there next to the Midnights and above Arn and Ole. I also felt bad forgetting any combination of the Freebirds that had Michael Hayes. Very similar to the Road Warriors, these guys could get over without winning a belt and had perhaps one of the greatest guys on the mic (Hayes).

    My 6-10 would be:

    Arn and Tully

    Freebirds

    Arn and Ole

    Rock and Roll Express

    Midnight Rockers

Funny, I'm remembering the old Jim Crockett Sr. Memorial Cup Tournament that the NWA would have each year. Even though it was supposed to highlight the best tag teams in the world, with the exception of the Warriors winning the first one (in an apparent move to award them with something other than the titles), SINGLE WRESTLER who happened to be in team won the next ones (Nikita and Dusty, followed by Sting and Luger)

  11. You were right on right up until you mentioned Demolition(poor man's Road Warriors)ruled all.

I agree with Sith...did a double take when I saw the Demos mentioned!

The accolades, the first team to wear the paint, the gimmick that was over for 20 years, all of it makes the Roadies the greatest of all time. The fact that they could be the most over team in a federation despite not holding the belts for long periods of time show that they were the ****!

My short list of the greatest tag teams of all time (post 1980):

    Road Warriors

    Steiners

    British Bulldogs

    Hart Foundation

    Midnight Express (Lane and Eaton)

  12. Ugh, D'Lo Brown was annoying for me back then and equally does nothing for me now. That walking bobble head is another of the many wrestlers in WWE I can't stand.

I don't know why I am so selective maybe because I miss every era from the past. Growing up and watchin wrestling in 88 and on- all federations (not so much ECW). I miss the Ravishing Rick Rudes, the Arn Andersons, the Road Warriors, Barry Windham to the Stone Colds, younger HBK, to even Benoit (yes I said his name) and the old Jericho.

The Attitude Era and 88-94 (WCW- before Hogan arrived) were definitely my two favorite times.

It upsets me that today I only find myself really getting into Kennedy (well not any more since I dont watch Smackdown), Jericho (why the hell is he with Cade who is garbage!), Batista, Santino, Orton, and sort of Kofi (still bitter he beat Y2J for the IC title) and thats it really.

:( I miss wrestling from the past. I was comparing my WWE RAW vs Smackdown 2004 vs 2008 edition.

We all know more or less who is in the 08 version. But 04 had Austin, Rock, Goldberg, Lesnar, Nash, Angle- are you kidding me??? That is a hell of a line up- any combo of those except maybe nash could EASILY headline Wrestlemania.

Now I have a Punk vs Jeff Hardy in 2 or 3 years to headline wrestlemania. I want to puke at that thought.

I'm sad, just wanted to express it

I agree with you wholeheartedly GP. It's just not the same anymore. You had good workers who could either work the mic or had a manager who could work the mic.

The feud were straight up, and ended with a big pay day event. Now, you have JBL "running over" Cena...wtf??? Like I mentioned earlier, I just loved the Horsemen driving around a parking lot and jumping Dusty, breaking his arm.

I loved Luger turning on the Horseman when he wouldn't use a chair on Dusty.

I loved the New Hart Foundation joining forces because they felt America screwed them over.

The angles were clean cut, sometime with a huge surprise turn that somehow, no one saw coming. Nowadays, people see turns a mile away.

When Luger got jumped at a Clash, and got busted open, it meant something. Weeks later at teh GAB, Luger has Flair in the rack, and is bleeding from that earlier wound, causing the MD Athletic Board to "stop the match" and give Flair the win....it all meshed together and culminated.

Now it's "I bumped into you, so now we must fight!"

  13. I didn't even stream it last night. I was too tired when I got home & couldn't be bothered.

Didnt look like i missed much.....

Just read the report in insidepulse. HBK and Y2J had a decent match, as did Cena/ JBL. Everything else was middle of the pack. It still feels weird seeing "Great American Bash" and a WWE logo next to it...surprised they never brought back "Starrcade."

I either read the rags or just watch Raw nowadays for the results...they don't even hide them anymore...it's pretty much a highlight reel...saves me $30+ a shot.

  14. Yes, one of the most disappointing times of my wrestling-watching life.

That was such a sad time. That was all about Vince's ego, Dusty needed the money and moved over, Vince wanted to show Crockett/ WCW and Company who the real deal was, and made Dusty wear f'n polka dots and dance in the ring with SWEET SAPHIRE!

Even though, when that dumb @$$ entrance song came on, I did feel like boggying a little.

  15. There was so much more wrestling on TV in the 80's than there is today it's not even funny. I had the best of both world because I live in WNY and got Canadian stations. And remember the 80's was the height of the territory days so the NWA/Mid Atlantic was on a lot of channels. On Saturday alone, there was no less than 7 or 8 wrestling shows.

Yeah, I never got tired of the NWA/Mid Atlantic shows, because they had such a large roster when you combined the territories, you always saw someone different.

And I absolutely loved the Jim Crockett Sr. Memorial Cup Tag Team Tourney- if Vince brought that back it might revitalize the stagnant tag team scene
