  1. I'm not arguing Wall had a brilliant game based off just the stats. They are a tangible result of his brilliant play.

Players have to focus on correctables and keep positive, productive perspectives moving forward because they have to keep playing and adapting. They have to take an account of everything that went wrong in a game and then figure out ways to fix their problems. I would bet the house no player is going to say Wall's performance wasn't excellent last night or that him missing those FTs is the reason the team lost. All would acknowledge it was just one sequence of mistakes/missed opportunities in a litany of other things that added up to the loss. I think most would acknowledge that a bigger problem was the myriad of totally avoidable turnovers and offensive fouls that facilitated Sacramento runs. Or having so many possessions that lagged on too long and ended with a forced pass to someone who had to take a bad shot or getting the ball to someone in a trap or in a bad spot they couldn't execute from. Or letting Jimmer get so many easy good looks at the basket. And letting Cousins run absolutely wild down the stretch despite being in foul trouble. Lots of missed opportunities before we even get to Wall's FTs (which came as a result of a brilliant effort to get to the line). And then after he missed them we had 10 seconds to score one point. There was plenty of time left even after that point to win the game.

It's the fan's (outsider's) perspective that you can pin point one spot in a game as the reason for the outcome. Fans look for scapegoats and settle on simplified "bottom line" explanations that simply are not an accurate reflection of the entire picture. Most can't synthesize or remember even very much of the data presented in a game. Most of us can't even tell what it is the players are doing and why they are doing it. All the time you see us yelling at players for taking and missing bad shots when sets have broken down and the clock is running out...

Good point. A month ago the Wiz wouldve lost this game by 15-20 points. The progress the team is making right now is evident. It just takes time to learn how to hold leads on the road. To simply focus on the missed FTs at the expense of the myriad other positive moments in the game is silly. Wall had a 10 to 1 ratio in only his 4th game back and Beal was a monster. Why throw the baby out with the bathwater?

  2. Picked up Beasts of the Southern Wild last night on Redbox after hearing some good things about it.

I really enjoyed it. It was well acted, unique and very moving and its one of those movies that can be interpreted a lot of different ways depending on the person watching it. It seems like it hits everybody a little differently.

Only because he was the first. In every measure of what Bond should be, Craig exceeds him IMO.

I really like Craig and agree that he is excellent. But...POPPY****...Connery is the man, the alpha and omega, Jordan/Pele/Sammy Baugh all rolled into one. Its just the way it is.

  3. I cant believe we are still talking about Ves. Dudes best game of his career in 2 years is a 10/7 and we are here talking about him like he is untouchable. Yea' date=' he had a decent game last night. I guess. He still cant make any free throws ( about less than 23% now). Still cant take a shot that isnt halfway in the basket already. And still almost fouled out in limited minutes. Id much rather spend the time developing Singleton over Ves, if they are our only options. Singleton must have said something stupid in the locker room to get this far in the dog house.[/quote']

He had a 16 point, 4 steal game on 8/8 shooting last year during our strong finish....and we all had this conversation then which led us in a circle right back to the same hopeful optimism. I'm just trying to find some light in the darkness and I think I saw a little last night...maybe.

  4. Jan had a nice game but he won't be worth much unless he learns to create his own shot. Teams can easily adjust to what he did last night. Getting 8-10 points per night off dishes isn't worth someone in his draft position.

Beal and Wall looks like an awesome backcourt. There is hope.

It was not a strong draft for big men. Look at the other bigs left from the 6 pick down and find one that has more talent than Vesely. Faried has had a better run up to this point, but he doesn't have the talent of Vesely.

  5. You and many others gave up on him before he'd even played 100 games. You went too far in the criticism and called him the worst player in the league. That's hating. The boy clearly has talent. He was just struggling on a team where pretty much everyone was struggling, but he's always had potential. DC fans always immediately give up on young players who struggle.

Last night showed the many positives he can bring to the table. Particularly on offense. Not just converting opportunities with high efficiency at the rim. But he helps space the floor with his size and passing ability. He was effectively utilized setting off ball screens for shooters and he takes up a lot of room and can give teammates completely uncontested looks at the basket. And his passing was outstanding. That's what I mean about IQ. He just sees the floor very well and he understands angles and spacing and he knows where his teammates are at. He can definitely stuff the stat sheet, he did it last night.

On D he was rebounding and contesting all kinds of shots and again, he just takes up a lot of space. And he's comfortable operating in space. Great length and quickness. Good job getting into passing lanes. These are the kinds of performances he's capable of.

Good post. I think part of what caused the rush to bury Vesely is that it fit in nicely with the "Ernie Must Go" line of thinking. It's readily apparent that Vesely has ELITE physical talent and above-average floor IQ. He needs seasoning, patience and a climate of success to be the player he can be. If we dont provide that for him, someone like Utah or Phoenix will and he will end up as yet another of the "One that got away" type of guys.

    Go Wiz!
