  1. Good bye season tickets, you were always with me since the age of 5 (when my dad started taking me to games, and put in my name about 25 years ago) you never complained or ****ed or moaned. You were the perfect non wife I never had. Two of those have gone by the wayside (never again!) But I will always back my Skins!! I'll go to a few games a year still, maybe more, but two tickets will be available in 225 row 1 when the upgrading starts folks, they were good seats, go grab em!

  2. No you don't need the PH testers , especially with such short lines , you will be able to see the changeover from cleaner to beer , which should only be a few seconds, just count to 3 after it turns to beer and you're fine.

Yea they will have to drill a hole in your box for the other gas tank , might as well just have them run both outside as long as there is room where it won't interfere with the compressor and stuff , and they SHOULD run a braided high pressure line for the Guinness

P.S. Perlick faucets are self cleaners meaning you don't have to remove them and disassemble to clean them , just check the rear washer every now and then for wear and replace if necessary, do not remove all the interior seals and crap on them , you need a special tool to get them back in

Wow, been a while since we talked beer.  So, since the last time I posted, I managed to break one of my faucets.  The kegerator I got was a Danby and what appears to be standard parts for a two tap system.  So, both faucets are spring loaded and rear sealing.  One got stuck and usually I'd just wiggle it and apply some pressure to get it lose and pour beer.  Yes, I'm stupid sometimes and now know that I should have taken the faucet off, broken it down and soaked it in warm water and cleaner for a couple of hours.

Hind sight is 20/20 :(  Anyhow, when I pulled down it popped, beer started pouring and then wouldn't shut off and seal back.  Had to get some mixing bowls to catch the beer and being pissed off, I let the keg tap out.  It was close anyhow, so I lost about 7 pints, something like that.  Anyhow after research, I read that I should get a forward sealing faucet as the beer stays in there and doesn't become dried and sticky and cause that problem.

Well, I've read that I should go with a stainless steel Perlick model faucet.  I was planning on converting one of the faucets to a specialty one for Guinness and other European beers.  I figure I should just go ahead and do everything now, while I'm fixing it.  So, the company I bought the kegerator from actually assembles, delivers and sets everything up for you.  Great service.

They also have an in-home service plan where you pay a set annual fee and they will come out four times per year (every 3 months roughly) and clean the beer lines, faucets, etc., free keg deliveries, and service the kegerator to make sure everything is working properly.  They also will convert a tap to be able to dispense Guinness for $200.  I've looked up all the parts I would need to do it myself and it comes right at $200, so paying them to do it makes more sense than me trying to do it myself.

So, before I call them to have them do the conversion on the one tap and fix the other, I've been trying to research everything so when I speak with them I know what I'm talking about and can make sure I'm getting quality parts.  So, I have some questions:

    1.  Will I need to replace the entire tower?  And should the tower be able to have one faucet for domestic/regular imports and another for Guinness?

    2.  What is the best specialty faucet for Guinness?

    3.  What is the best European coupler?

    4.  Are the specialty faucets forward or rear sealing?  And do they stick like a standard rear sealing one does (like the one I had)?

    5.  In my current set-up, I removed the broken faucet and there is a spring sticking out from where it connects to the tower.  Do I just pull the spring out and connect the new Perlick faucet?  Is it that easy, or no?

    6.  I want to clean my beer lines more than once every 3 months from their service plan, so will the standard beer line cleaning kits clean work with the European faucets?  The kit I was looking at connects to where the faucet connects, pumps water through that way and drains out of the coupler side.

First off those spring loaded faucets are crap, and probably coated with stainless steel, and over time, that layer will wear off inside the faucet exposing the brass core its wrapped around on the plunger, which in most cases will give your beer a off taste. What ever faucets you go with, make sure they are totally stainless steel (those are always more expensive then the coated ones)

To clean the guiness line if you buy one of those bottles you have to make sure it has a hookup for the European coupler, your best bet is to just buy one of these and get two hook ups on it, one for normal couplers and one for the guiness , there is a 2.5 gallon model (pictured) and a 5 gallon model, same size as a sixtel of beer

    9v892-2.jpg

Micromatic makes the best coupler and faucets for guinness, so goto their site to find those , perlick makes a guinness coupler but its crap in my opinion

The slow pour faucet for guinness and other nitro beers arent front or rear sealing , its totally different than normal faucets, get the micromatic one here as well.

Also you need a 75/25 nitrogen/c02 blend to run guinness, dont try to run it off of c02, it will taste horrible and make the keg go flat. At the same time dont run normal beers off of the 75/25 blend, your keg will go flat. So basically for guinness you need to run a separate gas source for it.

Ditch the spring loaded faucets all together, its a gimmick so you dont have to push the handle back when finished pouring, we call those the lazy mans faucets in my line of work (im a draft technician lol)

At a minimum you want to can your lines every month, the brewers association suggests every 2 weeks because yeast and bacteria start to grow in your lines at about 1.5 weeks, but on a kegerator where the lines are short once a month will suffice. Ive never used the cheap line cleaning materials and equipment so i cant comment on those, but stay away from the powder cleaners and use only approved liquid caustic and acid cleaners. Acid line cleaning is done 4 times per year(once per quarter) it removes beer stone where as caustic cleaners do not.

Ive tried about 5 of WW offerings and they are all really really good. Is there a pattern to their shipments? I was told that they (they = guys like you in the distribution biz) dont know when or what they get. They juts get what ever WW sends them. So far it seems like they do DC shipments about every 2-3 weeks.

The harvest ales are out and about as well.

I do not know how the shipments work at all, not my department :)> Im sure

its between the supplier, the brewery and us on what gets shipped and how much

Rodmans in DC got a shipment of wicked weed - sours, old ales, etc. I didnt think they did distribution anywhere near here (outside of their collab they did w DTC or something like that).

expensive. sours were 19.99 a bottle. i got 2 bottles of their highly rated barrel aged old ale at 12.99 each. Really excited to try it tonight. Should have gotten a few more for cellar/gifts but money is kinda tight and i didnt want to be that guy that clears a shelf of a hard to get beer. they still have a few bottles left.

also fresh two hearted is out and about.

    anyone on untappd?

We just picked wicked weed up! Premium of DC and VA! I have not had a chance to sample their beers yet

We also carry Foothills out of NC as well, good stuff

  6. I have to say that I think that Miller Lite has the best "flavor" out of the usual domestic light beers - I used to like Bud Light and Coors Light more but now they just seem like water - I can actually taste Miller Lite.

Although I usually prefer a good import or something like Sam Adams light - Miller Lite is good for gameday and what not.

Corona light (on draft) was very good when I had it not too long ago, I hate ML and its our best selling beer, see sig lol

  7. Yes, sir! Tried it for the first time, while out in CA. Very smooth blonde ale.

Its available in northern va, Ive seen Firestone a lot, but they are distributed by a small distributor, so if not available where ever you shop, have them order it for you

  8. Dag!

Halloween costumes are already out too.

Not a big fan of the style, but I don't turn my nose up at Paulaner, (sp?), Octoberfest, when it's available.

That just came out too! We carry Paulaner and its the only time anyone buys their beer, tells ya something lol

  9. So I saw the first keg of sams octoberfest before it was even august last week!

I thought to myself, already?! its still summer! jesus damn shame lol

Earlier and earlier every year it comes out it seems

  10. I never heard of OBH, im gonna look them up. I do not get into DC much at all except to make a beer run to Rodmans.

As a distributor, can we track your truck when you have rare beers (KBS, hopslam) like we used to track Snyders jet number? Can a case fall off the back of your truck? opps!

Yeah, Wise and Lovely was a damn good stout but I thought it was a one time release collab w Cigar City a few months back. They were sold as 1 part of a really tasty variety 6 pack. I wish could have cellar'd a couple for winter time. I just couldnt stop drinking them.

Ocelot - I asked them when they would be brewing a new batch of Talking Backwards and they said in February. I dont get it. You are a local brewery, you have this amazing world class recipe .... and you limit brewing to once a year? They did say in mid august they are coming out with a new beer called 3 Lovers and its supposed to be really really good.

    ------------

OBH isnt in DC, its in Warrenton VA

We dont carry Bells sorry, call Hop n Wine lol

Yea the Wise and lovely was a collaboration , too damn bad if you ask me lol!

  11. Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Yes, it's why I drink more than ever before.

Desolate ass place, no character. But there's beer!

    *Hiccup*...

    There WAS beer...

LOL I've been there, first time I ever witnessed a sandstorm, heh and I was there during OU OSU week, fun times

DC Brau is starting to produce some really good imperial ipas (wings of armaggedon) and dipas (space reaper). These beers could stand up to any national heavy weight imo and to have them local and super fresh (when you can find them) is a blessing.

Highly recommend both. I wish they would up the production.

They have always made great beers, my 2nd fav brewery in the dc region! First is Old Bust Head, aka OBH

The new wise and lovely from DC Brau is the bomb, im not sure if they consider it a stout or a porter but dang!!

My favorite beer of theirs is their El Heffe Speaks hefeweizen, best hefeweizen ive ever had IMO

You can find the beers youre referring to easily on draft in the dc/va region, I work for the distributor that carries their beer

  12. Broke in the new Weber Performer Premium today. Made some chicken legs with indirect heat (seasoned with Adobo) and then finished off with some ribeyes over direct heat. I missed charcoal.

Thats my charcoal grill, have had it for a very long time, love it when I have time to mess with charcoal, which is never any more. Its why I bought a gas grill lol

  13. Got a free case of Yuengling Summer Wheat from work, and a case of Harpoon summer pack, 4 different beers, UFO and their IPA I remember off the top of my head, some sort of new mango ipa and I forget the fourth one, coworkers say the summer wheat tastes like ass, so ill give 3/4 of the case to neighbors and take the remaining 6 pack to a party this sunday along with some of the harpoon lol

  14. Only if they are willing to pay as much as visiting fans

Fans don't talk like that. It's sunk cost. Don't ruin it for the people who regularly attend.

The turkey and the turtle are arguing, sorry I laughed inside lol

  15. True man. That Miller High Life is so easy to drink. If I was in a chugging competition, I'd want to choose that stuff as my beer.

Where do you live again dude? I cant remember lol

  16. Hey, that's a great idea.  My wife asked me what I want to do and I wasn't sure what to say, but I have a couple packages of ribs that I could smoke.

Mine is going to let me sleep in because I NEVER get to, I get up each day at 3-330A for work, and we have two kids under 3 so weekends we are all up by 6-630 saturdays and sundays heh I never ask for much
