So... Not shocking, most of the positives he highlights are not things that spill out onto the field but organizational PR things and facility upgrades that any fan who follows the team could have told you was needed.

Dan does hear us, keep shouting "real GM" and it will happen. Even AJ Smith would be a step in the right direction, although he is an a--hole. We have to make right decisions on the coaching staff, QB position, and rebuilding the line and defensive backfield. Smith is the type of guy who can lead this kind of work. Ideally, he gets to add staffing to his department and a five year anniversary piece on AJ's run as GM includes some positives on the field while Bruce can keep working on the fan experience, reconnecting with the old Hogs, the Harvest Fest and facility upgrades.

I wouldn't call them PR blunders. I think Gruden knows how to work a room and right know his rhetoric has kept most from looking at him and his culpability. Someone I worked with used to say...I don't need to hear about the labor just show me the baby. And right now Gruden has told us all about the labor with Griffin, the players in general and the defense in general.

Then you don't hire the guy if you/he think the potential franchise QB is a mistake. You trade Griffin in the offseason and recoup something while he still has value and start fresh with your guys. But, imho ~20 quarters is a joke. To me it reeks of someone that never wanted the guy from the outset (which I'm sure we disagree about and will never know the answer to)

What gets me that this whole mess the past couple of years has been all about the QB all about Griffin when in fact this team has been lousy the entire time during Shanahan's regime other then the 7-game heater. The narrative tho is that Shanahan was fired because of Griffin when in fact he was fired for personnel decisions, historically bad special teams, league worst defense, and an unacceptable W/L record then towards the end he began blame shifting and the focal point became the benching of Griffin as if Griffin was the source of the problem then proceeded to lose the games without Griffin. People forget that last year in Griffin's underperforming year the offense was still the strongest aspect of the team.

Oh, I want to be dead wrong about this. But based on Gruden's own words/tone towards Griffin let alone his benching do you think it looks like Gruden wants to coach Griffin?

I can't think of any straws to grasp onto that would suggest that Gruden would want him back.

And I'm open to suggestions.*shrugs*

There aren't better options in FA than working with the QBs on the roster. If Bradford becomes available you could go after him, but unless you build a line he would be hurt by week 2... I would rather build a line for Robert in year 4 of his rookie deal, but that is just me. Both the skins and Robert need that fourth year, why not try it given what was invested?

A gms drafting efforts are usually felt after 3-4 years, not the first year they are hired. Tell me how tb looked around the time he was fired and shortly afterwards. I wish people would stop acting like a worse drafting record than shanahan counts as a respectable pedigree.

Well, he and Jon Gruden were let go after a nine win season and a younger roster than what Bruce inherited. I'm just saying, this FO will not be calling Mark Carrier or Adam Archuletta to play safety. The mid-20s target is a BA approach. He is also good with the cap typically,

Absolutely Allen goes if this thing fails. If he had run a proper coaching search then maybe not, but that was a farce of a search. If you're so dead set on a candidate then you live or die with them. He chose his friend over great candidates, if you're wrong with that then you deserve to lose your job.

What great candidate did you want them to vett that they ignored? Gruden was next OC in this league to get a gig and a lot of teams were interested in him. When making important decisions people fallback on who and what they are most comfortable with. It is how the world works. It doesn't mean They did not make the best hire. Fit and chemistry are important when crafting a roster, they are equally important when building a staff.
