The O is the better unit of the two, but people are failing to realize that a lot of the things they have given us in the first two weeks, they have also given away.

And the first half of this week was a prime example. It was one of the worse performances I have ever seen from a football phase. You would have to have the Bears legendary D to resist a complementary O that gives you no rest and negative points. 5 straight three n outs or worse with the safety to start. No drive over 14 yards in the first half. 2 1st downs total. The D got got absolutely hung out to dry. Your taking a bad D unit, constantly putting them on the field and telling them to run gassers. No Bueno. They didn't give up a TD until DET drive 4, and surprise, it was after a 45 second Washington Offensive possession due to a Safety.

Now you gotta rely on a bad to begin w/ and now tired D to somehow hold water to give you a chance in the 2nd half? That's not a winning gameplan right there.

The O would have looked 10x better if their bus didn't show up until halftime. At least they wouldn't have cost us points.

The O looked much better in the 2nd half, but they greatly damaged their own D with what they did in the 1st half. Even though all three phases of are team looked terrible, and despite the fact that the O was the only unit to show some life, this game was on them. They were the catalyst for our downfall vs DET.

I couldn’t possibly agree more! Obviously the O is well ahead of the D so far, but their abysmal performance in the 1st half absolutely takes the blame in making a struggling unit like the D, worse by wearing them out.

Kudos to the O for coming alive and what seemed like some pretty good adjustments after halftime, but their putrid first half, players AND coach(es), dug too deep of a hole to try and climb out of.

It is nice tho, to have a QB that can give the team a chance to come back from a multiple score deficit.

I don’t think any trade where you get Ryan Kerrigan could be considered a bad trade. The guy is the All-Time sack leader in our teams history.

I get the point, but I just want to defend Kerrigan once again. It’s still wild to me that people never fully appreciated how good he was.

    Amen!

We all know how grossly underrated RK was around the league during his prime years, but he was/is also grossly underrated by a big percentage of our fan base. I have never understood this. He is easily a Top 5 defensive player in the history of our franchise. It’s not his fault that he played mostly on mediocre to bad teams.

You know you ****ed up when your own draft pick says he thinks you overdrafted him.   :ols:

My 20 yr old son and I are literally crying/laughing tears over this. Been on this board for over 17 years, and this is EASILY one of the funniest 3 posts I’ve read.

    BRAVO(A)!!

  4. For those in the camp that want a TE to be drafted this weekend, keep an eye on James Mitchell from Va Tech on Saturday. My son played against James in high school. I was able to meet this kid and his family, and got to know them a bit. If he stays healthy, he will become a productive player in the NFL. Super smart, super hard worker, good athleticism.

EDIT: He came from the same high school that produced Thomas and Julius Jones. Very small, rural area, but lives and breathes football. The area has produced a few professional athletes.

I'd definitely take 8-12 games of Fuller if the price was right. He really opens things up for an offense when he is on the field.

I agree with this. I wish that A. Robinson was a target as well. Always been a fan of his. Tons of talent, and like Terry, bad qb play has limited what he could really do.

Usually the old ones will work. It's not necessarily necessary to post them every week, unless a site closes down or gets weak, or a better one comes along.

Just don't use the entire URL. Use the main domain, and search for this week's particular game.

    Appreciate it!

Media are just relaying what they hear or told.

Anyway, that's not because you or others are claimoring out loud your views with no arguments instead of eye testing that you're right.

Agree to disagree? Since the beginning you doesn't seem to want to have a fair talk about it, so....

This will be my last post on the matter. You seem to have a hard time with what I’m trying to say, but I will address this post of yours in 3 parts…..

    1) I’m not sure if you understand how American mainstream media works, but they say what they want, when they want, no matter the topic.

    2) What?

    3) Brother, since my very first post on this matter, I’ve laid out my reasoning for why I feel the way I do. I’ve asked you to do the same, with no success. I’m very open minded on this matter. I believe what my eyes and little experience in the game tells me. If someone can show me something different, I’ll definitely consider changing my stance.

Ok you tried and obviously failed at finding info, I would suggest starting with the link in my sig.

From football experts, ex players and every reports, Del Rio is nowhere near as a Vanilla guy. His scheme are complex. And basing your opinon of a complex scheme on what you see on TV is not what I would call a great overview of the complexity of the scheme. Complexity might imply lots of IF.. THEN... THAT... within it.

That vaunted D camed especially from guys like Sweat, Young or Collins boasting they were gonna crush everyone in front of them.

This alone to me, puts all the blame on them. You guys played it ****y saying you were elite and stuff. And you're getting torched on any given sunday? No way, that's on them and nobody else.

Also, history in every sport will tell you that firing a HC/DC/OC midseason just almost never works and most likely fizzles. People wants to do this to try to provide a spark, but that just what it does: provide a spark and stops here.

Why? Because players still sucks in the end, and you're not gonna make horses out of donkeys.

Ok. You saying that the players were totally responsible for the preseason hype, tells me all I need to know. The media hype train on the defense was full speed as well.

You’ve had 2 separate opportunities to factually correct me in what I and MANY, MANY others are seeing every weekend. You’ve obviously failed.

Let’s just agree to disagree. You keep believing it’s all on the players and I’ll keep believing that ALL parties involved have their own issues that need to be corrected, including the coaches.

Ok so you're no expert but can see that the scheme is pure vanilil and that it's the problem.

From everything I have read about it, Del Rio's scheme is nowhere near vanilla, and is often seen as one of the most complicated.

Now if it's so vanilla you'll have to wonder are players so often out of positions or playing out of scheme. Playing hero or give half-assed efforts?

That doesn't seem to go along really well with your theory.

We can bash it on Del Rio as much as we want, but considering how our secondary is playing, switching the DC won't help much.

Or they do this on purpose to get the DC fired. But if that's true, you need to cut them all ASAP, because culture and everything that goes with it.

Yes, that’s exactly what I said. I’m no NFL expert, but I can plainly see that the defensive scheme is not as complex as other team’s are, around the league.

Also, you cherry-picked from my post.  I specifically said that I couldn’t understand why so many fans just immediately put ALL of the fault on the players. I actually said that they DO deserve some of the blame. There’s plenty of blame to go around. JDR is their boss. Ron is his boss. No matter the reason, it’s their responsibility to fix things when they’re broken.

JDR’s history speaks for itself. His defenses tend to take a huge step back from year 1 to year 2, which is happening as we speak. It’s a big reason why he had been out of football for years before WFT hired him.

Four QBs have now picked apart this supposed “vaunted” defense, this season. The mind-blowing pace of 3rd down conversions being given up is against a ridiculously soft zone, an overwhelmingly majority of the time. Greg Williams was a master against this type of situation. Sure, bringing heat runs the risk of being beat deep, but Good Lord, doesn’t that sound some better than the historical ineptitude of getting off the field, that we’re currently watching? The broken record of continuing to just rely on the front four is killing the team right now.

Tom Brady laid the blueprint on how to neutralize this front four, which is exactly what Herbert, Jones, Allen, and Ryan have done so far, with getting the ball out super quick. Add to this, that we have one of the worst LB units in the league, spells doom for our defense to be able to do anything to stop the intermediate passing game. Also, Fuller has regressed while continuing to be played away from his strengths, and like Josh Norman, WJIII has spent his career as m2m CB who is now being asked to play WAY more zone, and he’s struggling. Collins is what he’s been the entire time, decent in the run game, lost in coverage. Outside of the long CP touchdown on Sunday, I haven’t been terribly disappointed with McCain. I do feel that Curl needs more snaps, and I wish Reaves was playing as well.

One final thing. After reading your post initially, I tried to do some research on JDR’s defense, just to see if I were missing something. Can you point me in the direction of what you’ve read that shows his defenses are the opposite of what I’m seeing?

Very true, BUT he IS the one responsible for "teaching" these players.

I guess some people figure that DCs OCs and assts are just there to collect a paycheck.

These people are responsible for getting these guys on the same page, to teach these guys what to look for, how to react to it, how to spy, how to block, how to tackle, to mold the players into a unit that best reflects the emphasis of the coach.  DelTaco's HISTORY alone should be all one needs to know that he's just not a good DC. Every single place he's been had gotten worse, far worse, the 2nd year he was there. The majority of problems on-field CAN be corrected, with a real defensive coordinator, not someone who was out of football for 3 years.

    This!!!!

It is amazing to me the amount of fans that want to blame just the players.

Don’t get me wrong, there is still SOME blame to go around to a lot of the players, but the scheme is so unbelievably vanilla. JDR is just not in touch with today’s NFL.

I played ball thru (small) college and spent another 10 years coaching at that level. I don’t pretend to be an expert at learning or teaching the intricacies of an NFL defense, but that is my whole point. If someone like me can identify where our biggest problems are on defense, then something is terribly wrong.

I really, really like Rivera as a human being, but he  needs to make something happen. He’s the boss and ultimately it falls on him.

  11. For years, I’ve had a hard time being optimistic heading into games against true contenders, like the Bills.

For some reason, I feel really good about this game. I expect to see vast improvement from the defense, including a score from this side of the ball to go along with 4-5 sacks and 3+ turnovers forced.

Of course I hope that TH pans out, but I’m not a card holding member of the Hive…..yet. Call it “Battered Fan Syndrome”. A big game today against a quality opponent like Buffalo, may cause me to fill out an application.

    WFT - 31

    Buff - 20
