It's not the most scientific thing ever, but earlier today I used that link above to look at 10 year chunks.  70-79, 80-89, 90-99, 00-09, 10-present. I just looked at the dots on the map, like I said, not the most scientific thing ever.  But there's been an increase since the 70s for sure.

 

 

It's disheartening that as a society we have gotten to this point.      Tragedy strikes and all we can do is "thoughts and prayers".    

We are better than this.   We are to caught up in pointing fingers, and "gotcha" moments that we can't seem to work together solving problems.     I am sickened by the attitude of our representatives and grandstanding .

Wanna provide the definition of militia back when the Constitution was written? Or do you like to continue to try to change the meaning based on your opinion? Funny how the SC can rule on abortion and everyone accepts it as settled law but when they rule over and over and over and over on the 2nd Amendment it just means try again.

I'd say that a really big factor, for an external drive, for backup purposes, will be USB3. That will almost always be the bottleneck, when you're transferring large amounts of data. (And, even if your existing system doesn't have USB3, your next one will).

Granted, I'm not sure how many external drives don't have USB3. Might be that all of them do, now days.

You might want to look at a drive that uses Ethernet. That might be even faster. But I assume more expensive.

Ethernet is the way I would go.   Set the IP statically and then all nodes in the home can map a drive to the NAS for file storage.
