Wait wait wait… Guys guys guys!! Has Ron announced that we are eliminated from playoff contention yet!?   Nooo I didn’t think so.  Any talk of our pick is really premature at this point.  I’m going wait until I hear Ron tell me we have been eliminated before I get my hopes up about an early first round draft pick.

    sheeesh.

In all fairness, you ain’t wrong.  😕

buttttt….from the looks of everything, it appears off-season plans are made.  We don’t have anyone vying for bonus pay realistically.  Annnnnd, we’re the get right team.

I think we’re done.  It shows and it’s not cool to see

What if he pulls an Eli Manning on Chicago?  Maybe not crazy to think he'd do that if Eberfluss is viewed as a lame duck.  Drake Maye being in the class too makes trading Williams palatable.

I think Fields ends up in Atlanta next season.  There will be a handful of teams who need a decent QB that get shut out of the first round options like Tampa and Atlanta and New Orleans.  Maybe Oakland.  Fields will be at the top of the list for those teams.

Tbh…fields in Atl with those weapons could be very scary if they figure it out.

  3. Perhaps the silver lining in this situation is a new GM/Coach will have an objective opinion.  They won’t be married to any of the roster.  So, if we stick with Howell, that’s a ringing endorsement from the decision makers.  If we take a QB, it’ll be clear they are betting on draft day talent projection.  Whatever they choose, I just want them to be right.

I don't see the decision being squarely about whether Howell will be better with more help.  Of course he will. The question is what's his ceiling?

And apples to apple's what's his ceiling compared to who they can draft.

I wonder if we’re basing Sam’s projection on performance or draft position?  I mean to be honest, if we took Sam late in the 1st or even 2d rd, would we be satisfied with his performance this season?  Or, is his performance this year close to who he’s gonna be?

I don’t have the answer, but I do love me some Sammy Franchise.  And I feel that a MHJr, some real protection, and an offense that features motion to scheme players open could be the recipe we’re missing

To my point a few days ago about the dearth of OLine talent in the NFL. A spotty (at best) line is pretty much guaranteed for a young QB nowadays

Legit question…is it really talent or perhaps the OL hasn’t kept up with the offensive scheme changes?  I wonder bc I legit don’t recognize these offenses like I used to. The game has definitely passed me by lol

  6. Seem to recall him having problems with concussions here.  He somehow managed to clean that up and had a good resurgence with Tennessee.  Gone too soon.  RIP

So ... do you build the roster out and figure out QB later knowing you COULD already have that QB on the roster? Or do you acknowledge that you only have so many shots at a top pick in a QB loaded draft class, and secure what you think is the most critical piece to franchise success?

Whatever this future front office chooses to do, I don't think the choice will be wrong.

BUT, if we have the #2 or #3 pick, I think it would be criminal to use that pick on an OL or a WR. You would have to take advantage of it being a QB needy league an absolutely load up on draft picks. Either draft a franchise QB there or trade out and set yourself up for future success, if you have the right FO in place.

The more I think about it, the more I think you prioritize 2025 picks in any trade down. Get a 1st, 2nd this year, and a 1st next year. Build through this draft, and set yourself up in 2025 to do the same thing again. If Howell is the QB we want him to be, and 2024 is a step toward competitiveness, then you have 2 #1s next year and IF one of those is a high draft pick, you can do it all over again, trading back for 2026 draft capital.

If we are lucky enough to be drafting #3, someone is going to want to trade up for that pick. Take their 1st and 2nd, a future 1st, and go from there. And you can always do what Arizona did last year ... trading out and then coming back up for an OT. So if we traded down to say, #11 with the Raiders and got their #1, #2 and 2025 #1 ... you could trade #11 and a 3rd to come back into the Top 8 and grab your OT if you fear one won't fall.

Pretty much right on target with my feelings as well.  Gotta make sure we nail the value of that top 5 pick.

Who are yoi gonna replace him with at his cap number though? Wylie os not a great tackle. Bur he is respectable at guard.

He may be respectful at G…I haven’t seen him play there enough to make that call.  I just think it’s bad business to keep overpaid talent based on salary alone.  I’d rip off the bandaid and draft his replacement.  We can also sign depth via udfa and free agency.  We’re well under the cap.  Sending him packing and signing a replacement sends a winning message.  Keeping him bc he’s potentially good depth at that price tag keeps us a middling franchise.

Interested how you find it unsound.  Is this something you feel or is there any logic behind it.  It would not be the first time an out of position player came back and did a respectable job.  I think it would be a horrible example to make a rash decision because everyone is irritated at this dysfunctional season.  Bring him back, let him compete.

I know this wasn’t directed at me, but I just couldn’t resist…these Pros get paid to perform…not to be nice guys.  And it’s definitely a performance driven league.  I have no desire to see Wylie suck at another position when we have the ability to replace him.  We’ll have plenty of cap space…eating his dead money is more than marginally bette than hangin on to him.  If we’re that desperate next season that we need a stiff, I’m sure he’ll be available…can’t see him gettin run anywhere at this point in his career.

Unless Wylie is a cancer in the locker room we should bring him back.  We lose all the money. anyway.  Even if he was an adequate back up, it makes sense.

What example are you setting as new leadership when you allow an obvious talent albatross to collect a check?  We have to reset the talent floor while simultaneously accumulating top tier talent.  If done right, what’s currently our top tier talent will organically shift to our middle while pushing the existing floor out.  We are talent starved and no talent having vets should seek greener pastures elsewhere

I love that scenario.  Think of what San Francisco traded for a Quarterback.  Remember.  New regime.  We might be able to fill a few holes on the offensive line through free agency.  I do not see much out there, but there are a few guards and who knows.  If we get a RT we can shift Wylie to guard where he might be somewhat adequate.

If Wylie gets to walk back into the training complex after this season, I’ll be really upset.  That dude could literally be replaced by a traffic cone

I wasn’t suggesting not using motion was a blueprint we’d want to follow! Peyton was something of an outlier in his preference - not many QBs then, now or ever did as much as at the line (or sometimes pretended to …) as Peyton.

Gotcha.  Peyton was a rare breed of qb…one entirely capable of calling a game himself with no oc help.  Not too many of those cerebral types with the talent to match.  He was definitely an example of top tier pocket qbing

I know Peyton Manning didn't like to use motion. He like to get to the line get set and use that time to look over how the defense set up - he wanted then the time to check to something based on that alignment or stay with what was called. He felt motion gave him less time to do that because he had to wait for the defense to adjust to the motion. But then the Colts rarely even huddled - everything was called at the line.

    A couple things about this:

    1.  Peyton, Edge, Harrison, Wayne…that’s 3 HOFers and 1 possible.  We don’t have a pro bowler.  😕
    2.  this is not the 90s.  It’s a copy cat league and RPO offenses utilizing motion can mask a lot of weaknesses and capitalize easier on mismatches when used appropriately.

I think that Ron went with EB because he didn’t want to be that dinosaur. Unfortunately or fortunately depending on your perspective, he got it wrong. I’m sure it came as a huge surprise that the defense was going to turn to crap as well. None of us expected that.

But it seems Ron has checked out completely and you just cannot keep that man around next year. He should be nowhere near this team. He has to go. I would jettison all the players that have checked out under his watch as well. A complete cleaning. Especially the older players that aren’t giving it their all or has the “same ole same ole” attitude. Too bad we have to keep some because of contracts.

Hiring EB was another example of lazy homework imo.  And for the life of me I can’t understand the naivety of empowering your OC and DC to run amok while your job is on the line.   Understand player development and the need for it.  I don’t understand coaching development to the extent rr took it.

I don't have any lust for RR having a role with the team, actually I could care less if he does. I do wonder what they'll do with him given that I've heard Harris likes him. Don't assume you know what a person is thinking by reading more into their posts than what they put. It's all just conversation and I don't need any advice from you regarding what I need or don't need moving forward. Keep your advice to yourself unless I ask for it.

You don’t become a successful billionaire by keeping people around you that you like.  RR is a likable man on the surface…but he’s an absolute football dinosaur.

the nfl is not the nfl of the 2000s…much less the 90s.  It’s not even the same language or concepts anymore.

I fully anticipate Harris, having already hired an analytics guru, to go after the smartest youngster in the room….whoever his folks tell him that is.

What if we went after Pitts from Atlanta? They wanted Sweat and missed out, would they trade Pitts for Allen or Payne? Would we do that? Maybe we get a pick back too?

I’d absolutely love to have pitts.  Especially if it meant we didn’t have to spend a 1st rounder on bowers.  Atl is really wasting some top tier offensive talent on a horrible offensive scheme.

pitts & Harrison, and a revamped ol would completely change the dynamic of our offense

  17. Huge Sam supporter here.  Been known to call him Sammy Franchise.  I believe with him and his contract, we can attack the other many positions of need.  I love playmakers in the 1st rd.  If we can get Harrison or bowers then attack ol id be happy.  Bottom line…we have Sam for a cheap 2 more years….build around him and see what happens.  If it doesn’t work out after 2 seasons, we move on with a budding nucleus a la sf

I watched the end of the Jets game and that one worries me their offense is atrocious. We need a Rodgers comeback

We tend to turn no names into HoFers.  I mean seriously, when was the last time we actually took advantage of another teams weakness lol.  The Jets will “get healthy” on us for sure.  We should change our name to the Washington Health Department
