Heinicke/Allen is the stopgap, IMO.  If you bring in a guy like Mariota, that's not much better.   I bet either one of those guys could produce what Mariota can produce...if we get Mariota it doesn't really make us that much better.

Stopgap isn't the answer, we've got two guys that are already stopgap material. We need someone legit.

Agree.  If we can’t get dak, Watson, or Wilson, then we should turn to the draft.

Texans said they do not want Watson in their conference. We have a good shot. 2 #1s and Payne. Take it or leave it. Texans want good young cheap players and they proved they will let real good guys leave.

Agreed.  That should be our max offer.  Although I might prefer to include Allen instead of Payne.  Either way that’s still a monstrous offer as Payne or Allen are worth a 1st.  I’m still hoping it gets so ugly and the price drops like it did for us with Trent.

I'm not buying Texans position of power in this negotiation.   And wasn't this Matt's first time getting hurt like that?  It happens, beggers can't be choosers, Watson holds the cards here, not his front office.  At least try the offer, hes a pro bowl player, again, injuries happen.

He won't sit, just like almost all players that claim they'll sit for a season ends up suiting up by the final week of preseason.  If it's not a deal you're happy with you fine him until either he plays or you find a deal you like.  Do I think they have all the cards, no.  Do I think they can sit and wait until the offer is to their liking, yes.  Injuries happen, but who knows if his power(which is a large part of his game) will be right back to where it was pre-injury.

I think he will sit.  Leveon and Trent paved the way on how to force a trade.

Missing out on Stafford is a major kick in the nuts.

It’s clear we want an immediate upgrade, a significant one, on who we’ve rolled with in 2020. And right now, it looks very difficult to achieve that. Almost impossible I would say based on the scenarios being floated.

I agree.  We will probably have to settle for Fitz, Brissett, or Tyrod competing with Heineke.

Wouldn't it make you sick to see us move on from Heinicke only to watch Dallas or Philly scoop him up and then put him in to beat us? We at least have to sign him and see where it goes, either as a backup or eventually the starter. Can't let him walk.....can't do it.

I think heineke is a restricted free agent so I don’t think there is any chance we let him walk.

It's funny how peoples perspective on compensation for stafford has changed.  He is still the same qb with the same attributes and the same track record.  I got a lot of push back when I said I'd give up 19 overall for stafford a month ago, but now it seems more people are willing to give up even more than that.  Just curious, what's changed in the last month?  Is it just excitement bc he is now officially available?  Or did ppl just get more excited about him the more they dug into him?

This is interesting.  I also was against giving up a first a month ago but am now for it.  I suppose it is the excitement.
