Buddha
Could someone tell me how I can identify available IP addresses across a simple network connected using TCP/IP (no centralized server), without having the computers ON??? I need to set up some new computers but want to assign new IPs instead rather than using the IP on the machines being replaced. When I tried the autodetect setting, it would assign the lowest number IP that wasn't actively being used-- most often someone's computer that was off. Whoever originally set the network up never bothered to write down the IPs.

This is about as detailed as I can get with this question. I have just enough computer knowledge to be extremely dangerous around the office.
fansince62
buddah.....you need to determine if IPs are assigned by DHCP or are statically assigned before you can figure out where to go for an answer to your question.
Buddha
I ended up doing it the hard way. I turned every workstation, printer, etc. on and pinged all the addresses. Pain in the butt but I think I have them all now.
