TheyAreBack
Running and play calling at the end of the game when they had a chance to put it away with a TD were disappointing. Depth, O-Line, and D remain a positive sign.
Johns Bass
The Falcons had a good game plan running the ball on both offense and defense so they deserve some credit in this regard. Offensively (176 yards on the ground), they pulled their offensive linemen to create gaps for Freeman and he took advantage. Whether or not the Redskins could have made an adjustment to stop this, by personnel or game plan or both, really doesn't change the fact that the Falcons ran a successful attack. It's what they did and it worked. Other teams will take notice. Some may not have the players that can duplicate that but it is something Washington has to overcome in the future. Defensively (51 rushing yards) they blew up Kory early and often. I am not saying that it was his fault but that is what happened. One could debate the reasons why it happened but the Skins 2.1 yards per attempt clearly shows that it limited Washington's run game. I don't think their other offensive lineman have developed enough just yet to adjust but they will I am sure. Other teams will take notice and try to duplicate it so these young guys will probably grow faster because of it. The Redskins don't have any other options that they can plug in at the moment but a 270 lb center doesn't fit well with a power styled offensive line. This isn't going to happen overnight - it is going to take some time and patience. In the meantime give their opponent some respect for identifying weakness and exploiting them. That's just what good teams do. The Redskins defense did an admirable job in this aspect concerning Atlanta's passing game but not so much against the run.
