    Just pointing out, I bought a Disney annual pass on installment payments, and I'm still making payments on it.  (Made one two days ago.)

    Now, Disney has already told me that, when the parks reopen, my pass will be extended by however many days the parks were closed for.  So, I will have a period when I'm not making payments, but my pass will still be good.

    Similarly, they also offer a discount to people who renew their pass within, I think it's 30 days of when their previous one expires.  And they've said that, if my pass had expired before the shutdown, but I was still within my renewal window, then the renewal window will be extended by however long the parks stay closed.  And there's other things they're doing, for people who booked rooms or cruises, or multi-day park tickets, and similar things.

    And they shut down before the state did anything.  And announced that they're paying their cast members during the shutdown.  (I don't know if they still are.  The initial shutdown they announced was only for two weeks.  I also don't know if that's only some of their workers, and others are "contractors" or some such.)

    I suspect they probably should have shut down sooner.  But I do think they've done a vastly better job of this than any other corporation I'm aware of.

    (Maybe I'm biased.  A little.)

  2. Desperate for medical equipment, states encounter a beleaguered national stockpile

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/natio...034_story.html

    I personally found it shocking how incompetent this and last administration have been in terms of managing the stockpile since creation of this medical equipment allocation. As such the recent move of it to FEMA makes a lot of sense. (A side note and maybe I missed it or maybe it was just confusing due to the poor writing - why was this emergency stock not created for a pandemic?). I personally think there are lots of lessons learned here for an honest conversation after this blows over - but that is assuming an after action does not get politicized. What is more likely is some sound piece that says “there is no individual who did anything wrong but instead a lot of “systemic issues” were identified and we promise the American people these will be resolved.

    Replying to and
    We are still digging. It's possible that customs is not involved but there could be another hangup. If you have details let us know but we continue to check on this.

    OK, after some additional investigating we’ve found that this shipment has since been cleared for release by the FDA. LAX, U.S. Customs and the FDA are all working together to expedite critical PPE shipments. Glad to hear it's resolved

    Coronavirus in Romania: Country closes borders for foreign citizens, malls close, people’s movement and religious service restricted

    Romania will close its borders for foreign citizens (with several exceptions) to limit the spreading of the new coronavirus (Covid-19). The authorities have also decided to close the malls and shopping centers in the country, starting Sunday evening, March 22, at 22:00. Supermarkets, hypermarkets, small shops, and drug stores will remain open.

    People’s movement outside their homes will be restricted between 22:00 and 6:00, with only a few exceptions. The authorities also recommend people to also limit their movement outside their homes during the day. Moreover, those who leave their homes should respect the safety measures and recommendations from the authorities for limiting the spreading of the coronavirus and should not travel in groups larger than three people that do not belong to the same household.
    ....
    Art. 4 - Between 06.00 and 22.00, it is recommended that the movement of persons outside the home/household should be carried out only for the following reasons:
    a) travel in professional interest, including moving between home/household and the workplace, when the professional activity is essential and cannot be postponed or performed remotely;
    b) travel for the provision of goods that cover the basic needs of the persons and their pets, as well as goods necessary for the professional activity;
    c) travel for healthcare that cannot be postponed or performed remotely;
    d) displacement for justified reasons, such as caring/accompanying the child, the assistance of elderly, sick or disabled persons or death of a family member;
    e) short trips, near the home/household, related to the individual physical activity of the people and the needs of their pets.

  5. Sources: Big3 plans to launch quarantined tournament in April in response to coronavirus sports hiatus

    https://sports.yahoo.com/sources-big-3-plans-to-launch-quarantined-tournament-in-april-in-response-to-coronavirus-sports-hiatus-190821749.html

    The preseason tournament will feature 16 to 22 players from The Big3 who are negative for the coronavirus, and they will be quarantined in Los Angeles, sources said.

    Former NBA standouts such as Joe Johnson, Zach Randolph and Greg Oden could participate in the tournament, but many details need to be worked out.

    To assure the league is operating under safe conditions, players will be quarantined in a large home provided by the league, sources said. A basketball court/facility will be built on site. If a player breaks quarantine at any point during the tournament, he would be eliminated and removed from the premises, sources said.

    The games and the players’ daily lives will be captured on camera for added drama and storylines. The production crew would be stationed nearby but offsite from the players.

    There would be seven rounds of games, with teammates reshuffling after the first round. When a player accumulates three losses, he is eliminated. Cash prizes totaling millions of dollars will be awarded for first-, second- and third-place individual winners.

    A PDF document with this decision, which appears to be authored by the coordinator of this group, Dr. Raed Arafat, who is also the head of the Emergency Situations Department (DSU) in Romania, has circulated via WhatsApp and social media on Friday morning, March 20.

    The authorities reacted to the leaked document saying that this is only a working document, and that, in case such a decision will be taken in the future, its provisions may be slightly changed. Moreover, if any movement restrictions are enforced, the authorities will take all necessary measures to support the population, Raed Arafat wrote in a Facebook post.The draft decision that has circulated on the internet stipulates that people are not allowed to leave their homes or residence, with only a few exceptions, namely those who absolutely have to go to work or have been delegated by their employers to go somewhere, those who need to go to medical consultations that can’t be postponed. Trips are also allowed for basic necessity shopping and for providing social assistance to elderly or vulnerable people.

    People will also be allowed to leave their homes to do sports (alone) in the proximity of their homes or to walk their pets. Those who move outside their homes would have to fill in a statement beforehand, to be shown to the authorities.

    Your friend's response is basically "I don't care if I'm wrong, I'm going to do it anyway."

    A common attitude in our new, post-reality, world.  One which you see expressed by several of our more frequent posters, on this very board.  (And I suspect that this board is much more reality based than the world at large.)

    (Which is rather surprising, considering the board consists of people who haven't given up on the Redskins.)

    I hate to even ask this question (and I am not being a smart aleck, genuinely asking the questions): Didn’t the virus start in Wuhan?
