WR and OT.

We have 82 players on the roster at this point - I would imagine they sign 6-8 UDFAs today and tomorrow. Maybe a vet or two will get released and they'll sign more.

Not sure if this has been posted, but  Kurt Benkert (who played QB in the league) likes Daniels better than Maye at this point. Daniels' mechanics are a lot better and he can start on Day 1. Maye not so much...

So far, among the analysts who have actually played in the league (Chris Simms, Dan Orlovsky and Kurt Benkert), all of them favour Daniels by a wide margin as being the better QB.

I think that may be the case. Chris Paul wasn't any better than Saahdiq Charles, and they let him go.

We can easily free up a decent amount if we want to sign another player or two

Think Addington is gone soon, given the signing of Ott as LS.

The two players I would be looking to sign prior to the draft are Josh Jones (OT) and Josh Reynolds (WR). That would create roster coverage across the board and enable them to truly draft BPA after the first round.

But you're probably right - if they have not signed those 2 guys by now, they likely won't look to sign anyone else until after the draft when the prices are cheap.

Think they are going to start the season with Corn Lucas at LT while grooming a 2nd round tackle like Patrick Paul - Lucas plays better over on the left side anyway.

Andrew Wylie is on the right side until further notice, given his contract - likely until next offseason. They may be thinking he can have a better year in a new blocking system and with better coaching (who was the OLine coach again last year? Wharton?)

I would still like to see them sign Josh Jones, who can play both sides, and let everyone fight it out in camp. Also, injuries happen....

Here is the way I would approach it in my fan fever dream....but after the first two picks, I would be fine with all picks being BPA.

(Please, no Maye vs. Daniels debates...I simply think they will take Maye because he's much stouter physically (while still being mobile), has a better arm, can use the middle of the field and is younger. He's also familiar with the terminology of the offence.)

Who is left at OT? Mehki Bekton, Trent Brown and Josh Jones.....I'll take Jones and draft n OT in Round #2.

When I was cooking at a steakhouse way back when, we would take the worst of each of the cuts (sirloins, top sirloins, New Yorks, ribeyes) that came in from the supplier and save them for the people with no palates who ordered medium-well and well done. 

People who ordered well-done filet mignon were sneered at and ridiculed from the kitchen.

If you look any the pattern of acquisitions the last two days, GMAP is looking for players 30 or under, who are willing to take short-term deals and sign for reasonable money.

I think the guys that fit these criteria are Trent Brown, Josh Jones and Mekhi Becton. Jonah Williams likely wants too much term and dough, while Tyron Smith & David Bahktiari are too old/injured.

No slam dunks out there. If it was me, I'd take the flyer on Becton.

These two days have been seriously lit.

Now I'm thinking that the *only* free agent of our own that is coming back is Jeremy Reaves.

We had ~26 guys who were UFA/RFA coming into last week. Not only are we not going to sign any of them back except JR, I'm not sure how many will get signed by other teams either. Brisset, Gibson, Fuller, Curl and Samuel. Anyone else? Maybe Crowder and Toohill?

Rivera had 4 years to stock the roster. What an indictment of his (in)ability to acquire talent.... 

Withe the Allegretti move, I'm wondering if they will move Sam Cosmi back to right tackle...

Who knows, they might be by now, lol. I was never really sold on Lance as an NFL QB to begin with, but Trask is actually someone I would take a chance on if we weren't drafting #2 overall. I wanted the team to draft Trask 3 years ago to sit behind Fitzmagic & Heineken for a season or two.

I think the three most important traits for the QB position are: a.) reading defences correctly via progressions, b.) accuracy and c.) leadership. I think it's very difficult for a college QB to come in right away at age 21 and do a.) and c.) well. Most don't, few do.

For that reason, (and I'll admit it's not the only way), the safest way to develop a QB, because of the cerebral nature of the position IMO, is to redshirt him and make sure he has the right support. One of the easiest ways to screw up a QB is to throw them in the fire right away and/or without the right support.

Rodgers and Love were drafted in the 1st round *exactly* with the intent of one day succeeding Favre and Rodgers respectively, by learning from the bench first. Some smart succession planning. 

As to the rest of the list, regardless of draft position or perceived expectations, QB is a big, difficult role that takes time to learn. You have to learn to be a professional first of all, then deal with and lead men (not other 20 year olds). Then you have to learn the offense. Then you have to improve technical weaknesses. Then you have to execute. And you need the right support around you (ie - offensive line and receivers)

No QB in the history of football has ever been ruined by spending a year on the bench. But there aren't enough fingers and toes in the DMV to count how many young QBs were ruined by being brought along too quickly - thrown into the fire without the proper support and guidance. A QB brought along too quickly most often fails, and then loses their confidence. Once that's gone, it rarely comes back.

Slow roast the QB. It almost always pays off in the end. We're not trying to be good this year. We're trying to build a year-over-year contender, which takes time. We're also trying to pick the QB that will be better in 3-4 years, before a decision has to be made on the second contract. Not the QB who was better last year, or who may be better in his rookie year.

Also, Tannehill will not cost much on a 2 year deal.

If they draft Daniels I think they’re going to want to have a backup QB with more experience.  So I think they’ll trade Howell.

I think there trading Howell no matter what, I guess is my point.  

Agree. Maye and Howell on the same team, with one backing up the other would be awkward, despite what either of them might say publicly.

If it's my team:

• We draft Drake Maye. Bigger player, stronger arm, moves well in the pocket, has run an offence with similar terminology as Kingsbury's and has a high ceiling at age 21 (vs. Daniels). But has iffy mechanics. So, we redshirt him for a year and sign...
   
•  ....Ryan Tannehill as a UFA to start for one year, mentor the kid and gradually turn the starting role over to him when ready.
   
• Sam Howell gets traded for a #4, which is about all we would get - and one round higher than his draft round.

Aaron Rodgers sat for three years, Kirk Cousins sat for nearly three years, Jordan Love sat for 3 years, Tony Romo sat for 2 years, Philip Rivers sat for 2 years, Tom Brady (!!!) sat for a year and a half, Pat Mahomes sat for a year, Drew Brees sat for a year, the list goes on.

Patience....

But the thing is, we really don't know what the deal is with Stromberg. Is he someone who can now be a back-up for a year and be coached up to start in 2025? He was rated highly coming out of Arkansas, but last year they flipped him between C and G (#positionversatility), didn't give him much of a chance to play in front of Rivera's favorites Gates and Larsen (who both stunk), and then he got hurt. Suspect he also received terrible coaching.

Maybe a year backing up a vet like Morse while gets stronger is what he needs.

The fact that Cosmi is set to hit FA soon, and Ts command more than Gs, I'd rather keep him at the position where he proved himself ( and a more affordable re-sign) and get a RT in the draft that will have a lower price tag and higher ceiling for the position.
