Paul Williams moves up 2 classes to middleweight, tonight at 9 on Versus.

Wow.....I knew he was fighting....but I didnt realize he was moving that far up...he has the frame for it.....power maybe a different issue.

Also, they'll probably show the replay of the Cotto/Margarito fight.

Which makes it one of the best OVERALL HBO cards in a while....

Yeah realize that....I was thinking about the little guys being affected more.

My idea: cut the 17 weight classes to 9 as follows:

221 and above: super-heavyweight

201-220: heavyweight

186-200: junior-heavyweight

171-185: super-middleweight

156-170: middleweight

141-155: junior-middleweight

126-140: super-lightweight

111-125: lightweight

110: junior-lightweight

This cuts the amount of weight classes in half, makes the classes easier to remember (only 3, with junior, regular, and super), and has less-arbitrary weight limits (15 lbs cutoff).

I feel this definitely thinking in the right direction...just wonder if the 14lb gap is doable...I remember when Gatti used to make weight...rehydrate and come into the fight 15-20lbs heavier than his opponent...then procede to crush them

I just think these 6'6" 270lb guys are ruining the heavyweight division...they're just big, no particular standout skills...just big......I just wonder how guys like Chad Dawson, Chris Byrd, Roy, Rahman...would fair if they didn't have to eventually tangle with the "giants" :2cents:

Mayweather will never be king until he unifies the welterweight titles....he would have to beat the winner of Cotto/Margarito, Paul Williams, and Berto to be the "King."

If you want to call someone King....call Manny Pacquiao king! That guy will fight anyone you put in front of him. He beats everyone in his division who is worth a ****....then he moves on to the next division and beats all of them

Mayweather retired because he wanted no piece of the strong welterweight division in front of him.

He didn't want to fight Cotto/Margarito/Mosley/Williams

instead he fought a wreckless Zab Judah, end of his career Oscar De La Hoya, and an over-rated undersized Ricky Hatton.

I will give Mayweather credit in that he is a smart business man for making lots of money and getting out of the sport while he was still young.

but until he dominates the welterweight division he will never be a boxing king to me.

Let me get this straight....in order to just himself as the current king of boxing Floyd must beat Berto....BERTO....besides show enormous POTENTIAL..what has Berto done?

I mean with a resume that includes....at minimum...wins over Dela Hoya, Castillo, Corrales, Gatti, Hatton and Duran..you got at least 4 Hall of Famers right there....I wouldn't think there is much more to prove.

Zab is just as fast as floyd if not faster. He knocked Mayweather down too when his glove touched it, but the ref didn't see it. Also, I was at the Cotto Judah fight and it was far from a beat down. Judah had Cotto hurt several times and almost had him out in the 10 before being knocked out. Cotto is a great fight, but he's no Money May. I think Mayweather would win a lopsided decision. Too much speed and skill and boxing IQ.

What do you guys think about the Toney Rahman rematch? Loser goes away, winner back in the hw picture...

I totally disagree..NO WAY...is Zab faster than Floyd....if he was faster wouldnt have had his face Busted in BOTH fights.....He cried..CRIED BEFORE the Cotto decision, I have not heard ZAB chirpin about fightin Cotto again....if you havent done so watch the fight again on tv....I saw the Mayweather/De la Hoya fight in Vegas....watched it on tv and had a different opinion...I just don't know about Zab something is "off" with the guy...throwing chairs in the ring, chokin refs....I mean who the heck falls in the shower and needs 50 stitches, what was he showering with a bucket of razor blades?!?!

I dunno man.....Zab was winning that fight hands down until Floyd got in his head. I think it was the first 4 or 5 rounds I gave to Zab. Zab would be an unstopable fighter if he could lose the ego/attitude/ and gain some self control.

I can't disagree with this too much. Cotto does have a questionable chin and is not doubt slower than Floyd.

here's the thing....Cotto is a much quicker guy than given credit to. Cotto beat Sugar Shane (who was the Floyd Mayweather of boxing before there was a Floyd Mayweather) Cotto also beat Zab Judah....who is also very quick.

I'm not going to come out and say Cotto would definitely beat Floyd...but I wouldn't say Floyd would definitely beat Cotto.

I actually think it would be the fight of the decade.

Oh my gosh yeees...he PUNISHED Zab...but as you probably saw in the Judah/Mayweather fight...."Zab quickness"...aint exactly "Floyd quickness"....as for Cotto/Mosley...ehhhh...I still think Shane won that fight...

Yeah good point....Paul did look good in his "payback" fight recently....he would have to bring his A+ and extra credit game to beat Cotto...I think.....

Cotto's camp has been trying to get a fight w/ Mayweather for the past year...Mayweather said that Cotto hadn't accomplished enough to fight him....i think Cotto is much more worthy than Ricky Hatton!

I believe Cotto is more worthy than Hatton...but I see the same result...Cotto is a GREAT fighter...but in my opinion he is too slow for Floyd...even though it hasnt happen recently Cotto had a "stretch" there were got "caught" at least once a fight and was on the verge of going...night,night....if he gets caught by Floyd, it'll be followed up by a 20 punch sleepin pill...

I TOTALLY agree that Trinidad/De La Hoya II makes no sense...furthermore Mosley/Mayorga is even WORSE!!! Sheesh...give me Mosley versus Cotto/Margarito winner.....Cotto/Mosley II would be awesome....the thing is Father time could be tapping on Shane's shoulder...any minute now....its a shame he didnt get to fight Mayweather.

Oh and another thing..Pavlik is a BEAST..I mean who beats this guy?
