Had the Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout last night. Creamy texture, chocolate up front with a ton of roasty bitterness on the back end. Really good stuff, obviously. Chocolate stouts are up there as one of my favorite styles of beer, so it's tough competition to say the least. This wasn't my favorite chocolate stout ever, but it's very close.
Good stuff! Strong too

It's almost time for one of my favs to be released, Sierra Nevada's Celebration Ale.
-
Generally the crappier the beer, the colder you want it.
The tastier beers only get better as they warm up a little.

I only checked one store but I haven't found the Bigfoot yet. Instead I picked up a sixer of Sierra Nevada Porter. Probably one of the best Porters I've had in a long time. I'd highly recommend it. A lot of times Porters leave me with a bitter aftertaste, but the Sierra Porter actually has a pleasant aftertaste. Which leaves you wanting another beer every time. :pfft:
Love SN Porter, very good indeed

Anyone try the Guinness 250th Anniversary beer? I have seen the ads and was curious to see if it was any different from there other stouts.
It's pretty good, along the same lines of the extra stout

I agree on the Magic Hat Wacko Summer Seasonal, just horrible. I'm not a huge fan of Magic Hat in general. None of their beers stand out to me.

damn that's some serious head

Sam Adams has a killer cream stout you should check out, ASF

Young's Double Chocolate Stout is tasty stuff.

A few hours after my Smithwick's review I heard one of the Guinness Draught nitro-cans calling my name, I drank that one cold and was very pleased with it. I think tonight's review will be the nitro-bottle of Guinness, served slightly cooler than room temp. Gotta love that rich malt flavor.
I actually prefer the can over the bottle with Guinness. Let us know what you think.

I haven't had a specific Porter yet, unless you count stouts as porters which I believe technically you could. What's the difference between a porter and a stout?
Good question. The answer is... not much
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porter_(beer))
Porter is a dark-coloured style of beer. The history and development of stout and porter are intertwined.[1] The name was first used in the 18th century from its popularity with the street and river porters of London. It is generally brewed with dark malts. The name "stout" for a dark beer came about because a strong porter may be called "Extra Porter" or "Double Porter" or "Stout Porter". The term "Stout Porter" would later be shortened to just "Stout". For example, Guinness Extra Stout was originally called "Extra Superior Porter" and was only given the name Extra Stout in 1840.[2]

Anyone else a big fan of Sierra Nevada's Celebration Ale? I wish I had some right now.
I've had a couple Smuttynose Robust Porters tonight and damn these things are tasty.
-
All this beer talk I had to run out on my lunch break and pick up some good stuff. I always want to try new ones but I usually stick with what I know. Picked up some DFH 60 minute and Smuttynose Robust Porter.
-
Made the same mistake as you. Burps taste like 120 IPA today.
Perhaps it's more like strawberry syrup. Will try the second bottle tonight. Would rather take it back and get a 4 pack of 90 minute IPA, but I guess I have to suck it up. Cheers
You could always cellar it for a while and see if it mellows out a bit.

Anyone familiar with Ommegang?
If you like quality Belgian style ales, I highly recommend these guys. It's a small brewery located in Cooperstown NY. I took a tour of the brewery a few weeks ago and they really make some nice brews. You can order directly from their site, check 'em out.

I don't get any maple syrup taste from the 120. I've always described it has a sledgehammer of hops. It's definitely very boozy, a beer you really want to sip on for a while. My first time I made the mistake of drinking it down too quickly and I was hella buzzed.
-
Will keep an eye out for it. 21% alcohol beer is right up my alley. Instead of buying a bunch of cheap crap to catch a buzz I can do the same with a little bit of good beer.
Yeah just one those and you're off to a good start to the night.

One more recommendation since stouts are a fav of mine too: Brooklyn Brewery Black Chocolate Stout. Soooo good.
-
Looks like I know what beer I'm getting this weekend. Thank you sir.
It's seasonal, not sure if it's out now but if you can find it definitely give it a try. It's hops heaven.

Picked up the Dogfish Head Chicory Stout last night. Stuff is amazing. Had some with my cheerios this morning. Seriously.
It kind of tastes like steak, I'm definitely getting some for a cookout this weekend. Thanks for the help QB.
Will be trying as many stouts as I can find around here, they're definitely my favorite style of beer.
Smuttynose has an Imperial Stout that is very good.
I also recommend their Robust Porter.

Doing some research here and apparently Dogfish Head 90 minute IPA is one of the best beers in the world? Amazing for how much I see it. Usually the beers people consider the classiest are very hard to find.
I'd believe it. It's damn good.
Ever try the 120 minute? That stuff will take you for a serious ride. 21% alcohol per bottle.
Guys I need recommendations on the next TV series I should start watching.
