Extreme Anniversary: What a long, strange trip it's been.

A long time ago on a message board far, far away...

exlogoanim1.gif

Year 1: the 2001 archive only goes back to July--everything earlier was lost to a glitch. However, here's the earliest remaining thread. Excellent Maske article on Marty's Skins... posted on June-4th-2001 06:35 PM

Year 2 : was marked by the original, unOmifficial ;) "Holder of the Flame" with the following post.

Extreme Anniversary: Pass the Bubbly!

As the Self-Appointed, Unofficial Keeper of the Flame (it's a logo thing :) ) around here, what with the Monthly and all ... please allow me to make the following announcement/observation:

Today, May 22, 2002, marks the Two Year Anniversary of the birth of Extremeskins.com. We determined last year that Die Hard's registering as the "inaugural member" set the date.

Those of you who were around last year at this time might remember a certain really long "toast" that a certain really long-winded poster made marking the occasion. You'll be happy to know that said poster is – mercifully – considerably less voluble these days. If not less over-the-top on occasion. That being the case, I'll keep this short and to the point:

Happy Anniversary to the Board. Warm, sincere thanks to Die Hard, Blade and Art for their well-documented efforts in first creating this place, then nurturing it to where it is today. Hell of a job, gents. We've come to count on this place more than most of us would probably admit.

Here's to the future.

*

I would also observe the almost eery confluence of circumstances that brings us our 1000th member on the very same day (or at least it will by the end of the day, I'm quite sure). This is a notable thing on so many levels; like having to remember one less "date" when flogging this thing in the future, and how easy it makes it for those of us mathematically challenged to figure out how many NMPY (New Members Per Year) we're averaging, and ... well, the whole idea just kinda oozes coolness. You know?

Hard to imagine what the Extreme landscape will look like a year from now. I, for one, can't wait to find out. :)

*

See? That wasn't so bad. Hell, by next year, I'll probably only hit ya with "Happy Anniversary," and call it a post.

Nah ...

*

Hail.

:helmet:

Year 3 : Omifficially was marked with this thread.

EXTREMESKINS ANNIVERSARY - And Then There Were Three

Tempting as it was to write a breathless, stroking piece about the 3rd Anniversary of Extremeskins.com ... and to mention all the changes and additions over the past year ... things like the Roster Database and The Coaches Corner and fully automated Man Contest and the explosion of the Tailgate Forum and on and on and on ... I won't. :)

Instead, I'll be (more or less) true to my stated intention last year, as noted in the 2nd Anniversary Bash Thread ... and keep it short and sweet.

Hats off to the dedicated guys who dreamed it, created it, and have turned it into a part of so many lives.

And warm, sincere thanks to each and every member who posts, thinks, laughs, conceives, researches, questions, critizices, and just plain contributes; it's you who give this place the soul it has, and that keep us all coming back day after day, month after month, and year after year.

Happy Damn Anniversary, Extreme. And here's to the future.

*

One observation that needs to be made: exactly one year ago today, we welcomed our 1000th member.

Today, we welcome our 2772nd.

Now, I'm no mathematician, but that looks to me like something on the order of a 177% increase. At that rate, we fully expect to welcome member number 4906 come next May 22.

Unless of course this is a geometric progression we're looking at, in which case ... well, we're going to need a whole lot more beer.

Hail.

:helmet:

Year 4 : Well, seems like sOmeone marked their calendar wrong.

Happy (Belated) Birthday Extremeskins [/bold]

Just so you know, Saturday, May 22, was the fourth birthday of Extremeskins.com.

First time in three years I’ve missed the actual date. My bad.

Had anyone tried to project, back on that date or in those first few months, where this thing would be in just four short years—or just what a rolling freight train Extreme would become, I don’t think they would have foreseen anything close to the reality. Fact is, having this place to come to every day has made the disappointing performance of our favorite team over the past few years almost bearable.

Now ... given Coach Gibbs’ return, and the ride I’m 100% convinced we’re about to embark upon, it’s hard to imagine a better place or group of people to enjoy it with.

So without going into the whole history here (fret not, however, a History Page IS coming soon), I thought it worth taking a moment to offer a warm thanks again to Die Hard and Blade for their vision and tireless work to give us this playpen, to Art for providing us an anchor from day one, and to the balance of a crew of very special people whom I won’t try to name, but know who they are ... and who have become, in a very short time, an extended family I will never take for granted.

Here’s to where we’ve been, where we are, and where we’re headed.

Cheers.

Seventh post on that thread gives us this.

Good grief. Look what I found in the Year Three thread:

Would you believe, as of today ... 12,639?

Anyone care to set the over/under for May 22, 2005?

Year 5.

Here in the now.

Total Members: 32,075 at the time I'm putting this tribute to you guys together. Which, of course, means Om was right. He's no mathematician. :)

This is a tribute to each & every one of you guys. All 32,075 of you, because without our members, we'd be nothing.

This past year has seen an increase in original content. From Tarhog & myself teaming up to do the 101 column, to Art bringing not one, but two high level chats with Cerrato & Swanson from the Redskins orginazation. We've also had Chubakah doing the custom sig gig. Big props to iheartskins & his group of guys that ran the new War Room feature that Die Hard installed this year.

19,436 new, original members in the past year. Now that is impressive. Most impressive.

Not to shabby for a board that started out in 1999 being hosted on Geocities.com & known as "Hail to the Redskins". My understanding is that 'HTTR' consisted of a variety of informative Redskins information and links. It wasn't until Die Hard discovered the TSN Skins board & a guy named Art that Die Hard deceided to fulfill his destiny & create his own message board community. Which brings us back to today. Happy 5th Extremeskins.com. :wish:

Hail.

My wife just said something funny that I thought I would share. I told her about the anniversary and the membership increase and so on. She was very impressed, BTW, but then said "the numbers can't keep going up, can they? I mean, how many Skins fans in the world are there?"

Here's to finding out!

Just tell her we're at 32,000+ right now. FedEx seats over 91,000. Think we will have that many here this time next year?

( Walks into door sees the place filling up and all kinds of party favors hanging from ceiling, walls, and......the ceiling fan? Sigh. Damn night shift). "A surprise party?" ;) Well now happy anniversary Extreme, ( goes over to usual table, does usual save seats thing and sits down). "Okay. Let's Party!" Er..... I'll just have some soda for now. I'm not ready for the egg nog quite yet, ( maybe next week). I've heard stories of the place in the beginning, pretty small back then. Believe there's a picture of it behind the bar. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v436/jayman42/extreme2.jpg Hell, I remember gazing through the windows of the bigger place, ( they finally found a decent spot for a good lease. Even if it was a fixer upper), extremetavern.jpg

for quite sometime before walking in the door, ( ever so quietly), and sitting down and listening to the regulars do their thing. Then felt comfortably enough to jump in there, and almost get myself in trouble, ( a recurring theme for me). :)http://www.extremeskins.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=43304#post43304

:chug: Let's get this thing going, ( and remember. Last one out takes booma off the hook in the mens room. Westbrook on the other hand ;) ).

True ... but I did say this:

Unless of course this is a geometric progression we're looking at, in which case ... well, we're going to need a whole lot more beer.

I think I may have actually gotten a B- in geometry once.

And I was cum laude in beer. :)

Five down. Here's to many, many more. Salud.

Thanks for getting the party started TK. Just keep PCS away from the poppers - I haven't gotten one yet!

Its been a great ride guys, so many great posters here, some old, some new, some with scalded ****s, it takes all kinds, and we've definitely GOT all kinds here.

This place is one hell of a success story. Heres to hoping you haven't seen anything yet

Happy Birthday Extremeskins. :notworthy

It has been a joy to come here everyday and talk football with you guys. This is the best Redskins website on the internet. Here's to a ton more Birthdays for Extremeskins, and maybe this year, we can celebrate a winning season for our beloved Redskins.

As a fairly new member who just joined within the past year, I just want to say thank you to everyone that makes this site so special.

Growing up in Central PA, I was one of very few Redskins fans. My hometown is dominated mostly by Steeler fans, with quite a few Eagle fans as well. With moving to Pittsburgh to attend college, I thought for sure that I would meet up with at least one Redskins fan out of the many students that I would be living/interactiing with. Wrong. The point I am trying to make is that I had never had the opportunity to discuss Redskins Football with someone who had as much passion for this team as I did. That is until I stumbled upon a little site known as Extremeskins.com.

I am so grateful to have found a place where I can interact with such passionate, intellegent, and insightful fans. Logging on to Extremeskins has become a daily occurence for me, and will continue to be so for as long as I live.

So, everyone raise your glasses as we salute this place that is so special to all of us. Here's to Extremeskins.com, and Hail to the Redskins!!
