I don't really know why I assumed it, I just did. And it seems that that's usually the case with movies and sequels.

For me, the originality of Star Wars is what set it apart from other movies. For Lucas to add onto that 15 years later (and use a lot of the same characters) made it difficult to have that same "Wow" effect. It's almost like he was fighting an uphill battle since he was always going to be compared to the originals.

I think it's similar to Joe Gibbs coming back to the Skins. He has an amazing stretch of 11 years under his belt. Unless he somehow strings a couple SB wins together in his 5 years here, it's going to be considered less successful than his first tenure by most. We might see that he is getting our franchise back in the right direction, but everyone else would probably say "Joe came back and couldn't repeat his past success the second time around."

Anyway, that's my opinion. :2cents:

Because people had the expectation for the PT to out do the OT, where as they are not really competing with each other, they supplement eachother.

Also, people look at things differently than they did in their childhood.

No disrespect here... What would make you think they would be better? Special effects? Big Budget? It all boils down to 2 things... Writing and acting...

The writing may have been better if Lucas didn't really so heavily on special effects, which is going to happen, because he created one of the largest special effects companies on the face of the planet. Plus it is what today's audiences demand.. Since these effects are available, it gives him the capability to modify the story and plugin in additional components which may improve or hinder the storyline...

Acting I won't get into, because I really don't know a damn thing about the subject.. All I know, is it has to be harder to be an actor knowadays when all you are doing is talking to empty space in front of a blue screen....
