Why can't we go 14-2?

"Our roster" has never been the problem. If things turn around, it will be a group of chronic underachievers who finally produce, not a team of overachievers.

14-2 is a nice pipe dream, but this team is a six win group until proven otherwise. I'm not buying the whole "a few more bounces go our way and we'd have been 10-6 in 04" argument. Every game is decided by a few bounces or bad calls. The Patriots have won 3 superbowls by winning close games. Good teams win close games bad teams find consolation in close loses.

the redskins could be a very good team next year. Hopefully the defense can repeat its performance, but with williams at the helm, it's almost impossibly for our D to do any worse than top 10 in total defense. As for the offense, if they can show anything close to a significant improvement over last year, we are gonna win a LOT of games. I'm excited, can't wait to get it rolling.

Yeah but if the other 2 things happen i'm going to shoot myself. 2+ wins = no dissapointment. Anything less there goes another season down the drain.

I say why not?

The funny thing with Joe Gibbs and his teams was that they almost seemed to come out of nowhere.

The first Super Bowl season Joe Gibbs described as a "miracle"

1987, Doug Williams comes in and leads the team to glory somehow

Then the unhearlded Mark Rypien. Clearly the media saw a very talented 1991 squad (Dr. Z correctly predicted in SI a Skins vs Bills Superbowl in the season preview that August) but it was all on Rypien

This team has the talent. It clearly has the coaching. Will the QB play live up toa playoff contender? If Ramsey delievers this team is 14-2

It is never to early predict what a team will do this year. My feel is somewhere between 10-6 or 12-4. The slop factor is there for the offense adjustments, or defensive adjustments from the other teams. I also would predict as the the season gets closer for the sports media to give the skins a better chance this year. They have a known quanity in Gibbs and that will provide for lots of speculation by the socalled experts. I definitely would steer clear of anyone predicting them being 8-8 or less. Gibbs is known for his adjustments, etc etc and hes been living at Redskins Park for almost a year and half now.

This coming from a team that did nothing to improve their defense (pass rush or help for Bailey), have Jake "The Snake" behind center, and have a roster of backup RBs.

I agree with the 6-10 and 8-8 range, too many holes along with the cap has crippled the redskins from truly reforming, to the potential..

 @ the usual lurker comments. Have you seen any huge purges of talent on our team? Do you not see the amount of space we'll have free next year? Where are the holes? Be specific when you attempt to call out this team.

I don't think it's fair to say that our teams ever came out of nowhere (except the 1982 Super Bowl year which very well might have been a miracle).

From 1982 until 1992 we went to the playoffs 8 times (and missed the playoffs once or twice with a winning record) and played in 4 Super Bowls. A team like that never truly comes out of nowhere. We were a contender each and every season to win the Super Bowl during Gibbs' tenure here.

Well, there's not a reason why we "can't" since any team can look at a schedule before a season begins and come up with scenarios in which they can win each game.

However, it's not likely to think that our results would differ so drastically from previous years.

Believe me, if probability comes into play, we just might do it since we're due for a great year...

I think we have a legitimate chance to have a winning record. Beyond that, it comes down to the breaks going your way.

And Washington's sports clubs are starting to look pretty decent again. Who knows, maybe the trend is shifting & will come down the coast from Boston (hmmm...connection, maybe?) to Washington.

:D

5. Our o-line sucks, even though we upgraded at 2 positions

6. Joe Gibbs is old

7. Art Monk isn't in the HoF

8. We did not spend enough this offseason

9. We drafted Jason Campbell

10. We let Smoot and Pierce go

11. Pastabelly, Peter King, Dr. Z and the Washington Post hate us

12. I heard Joe Gibbs is old

13. Sean Taylor may be holding out

14. Apparently Joe Gibbs is still old

15. Mark Brunell is on our roster

Now, maybe 15 is true, but I love our media...

Yeah, 15 is a killer right there.

Ah, the offseason, where there is endless optimism.

I'd have a hard time thinking we will be 14-2, mainly because everyone else in the division (except for Philly) has gotten much better, at least on paper. Sure, we can improve on that touchdown, but is that all we need to make up? There are also still questions on many players on this roster.

That being said, I do think this is going to be a good year, and we will finish north of .500.

Actually the Redskins came out of nowhere almost every year. They were never picked to win it all and the 87 team was picked to go 7-9 to 9-7 by most everybody. There was just too much talent on the 9ers Giants Bears to consider the Redskins with average players having a chance. Same thing in 91. It was supposed to be the 9ers year after screwing up the 3peat against the Giants the year before. The Redskins were never the favorites and they missed the playoffs twice with 10-6 records (85 and 89). Gibbs went 8-8 once, 7-9 once and 9-7 once. I remember wondering when I was 13 or 14 why the Redskins were supposed to be so bad in 87 after they went 14-2 in 86 against every team in the league besides the Giants.

19-0? This team is still not ready to win the division. And you cannot do anything about those games that could go either way. You will not win them all. Bad calls, bad luck, bad coaching, and mistakes will still happen. I think it is way past optimistic to look at this team and say that THIS will be the team that will join the 72 Dolphins as the only undefeated team in NFL history.

Maybe if we get to play 16 games against the Dolphins, and Ricky Williams hasn't come back.

Let's be real people...shoot for the playoffs, settle for 8-8.

Settle? Did you say settle? Never! I am from the United States, sir, not the Socialist Republic of France.
