Theiman says Darrell Green Should Not Be In HOF

Just heard Joe Theisman on ESPN's Jim Patrick show answering questions on who should be in the HOF. He talked at length about why Art Monk should be in the HOF, but that the process is too subjective and political. He also said Jacoby and Grimm should be in, but said no to Mark Moseley and, surprisingly, Darrell Green. Go figure?

One more thing: Jim Patrick was rattling off names of HOF contenders, and when Darrell Green's name came up, Theisman first said yes, and then changed his mind and said no. Unfortunately, Patrick didn't ask why the change.

I could see Green getting the same BS treatment Monk's gotten. People could claim he was solid, but unspectacular which is clear when you realize he didn't have a lot of INTs for such a long career and didn't take away half the field the way Deion did. Of course they'll be basing their argument on Green from age 35-40, and not Green in his prime. But memories are short. And style seems to prevail over substance with this group of voters.

I'm not going to hold my breath.

Green should be the first person on that list that makes the Hall.

Theisman probably just has a healthy dislike of defensive backs, if you noticed, the 3 guys he said yes to are Olineman that protect the QB and a WR that made his QB's look good. (I think they should all get in personally) The 2 guys he said no to were a defensive back and a kicker (no football player respects the kicker)

Im sure Mr. Green just made Ol' Joe look silly on occasion and everyone knows about 7's precious ego.

I hope you're wrong Henry, but your points make alot of sense.

Plus DG, unlike Sanders (much like Monk vs Irvin) is not a flashy guy.

I was hoping DG would be a 1st ballot guy.

I think Darrell is a clear HOF guy and likely a first ballot guy. He has a much higher off the field profile than Art Monk does thanks to his charity work. Not that Art does not do charity work as well but Darrell's just seems to be in the public eye a lot more. Add that to his high light reel from his playing days (people still talk about him chasing down Dorsett on MNF as a rookie with awe) and I just can't see him not getting in the HOF. He was amazing.

Also consider that he gets invited to things like the Legends game this last year at the Pro Bowl. Monk is not getting that call. I think that sort of thing is a sign as well.

But these are all the wrong reasons to vote a guy into the HoF! It's not about how many teams, how long you played, or how great a guy you are. Being elected to the Hall of Fame is about how great of a football player you were.

Fortunately, Green was great enough where he will make it 1st ballot.

I was going to say the same thing. Add to that all of his NFL's Fastest Man domination really raised his national profile. I think #28 will get in, first ballot, but the vote will be far too close for comfort

:2cents:

With the very biased and idiotic way the HOF committee selects its entrants, it's websites like this one that are so valuable in continuing the to carry the torch for the TRULY great players of seasons past.

28. 81. 66. 68.

OUR Hall of Famers.
