Man Accused Of Putting Boy In Oven To Plead Insanity

Man Already Pleaded Insanity In Sister's Death

POSTED: 7:52 am EDT May 10, 2005

SAN ANTONIO -- Lawyers plan an insanity defense Tuesday as they open the trial of a Texas man who allegedly smothered his girlfriend's son in an oven.

Kenneth Pierott is charged with murdering the 6-year-old a little over a year ago. The oven pilot light wasn't lit, but an autopsy found Tre-Devin Odoms died from asphyxia due to smothering.

Prosecutors said Pierott knew right from wrong when he tried to cremate the boy in the oven. Defense lawyers said he was insane, and will use testimony from two court-appointed psychiatrists.

In 1998, Pierott was found not guilty by reason of insanity in the fatal beating of his sister. He was held at a mental hospital for four months and released. That case won't be discussed in front of the jury.

....I'm not sure what's more shocking...the crime itself? or the fact that a woman would be dating this man and allow him to be around her son? (...but I'll give her the benefit of the doubt and HOPE that she was unaware of his previous crime or his stay in a mental hospital).

FOUR MONTHS? Why so long? I mean he only beat his sister to death?

I thought if one is not guilty due to insanity, you are kept in the hospital for life?

That whole death penalty thing would have ended this POS's run of murder after the first one.

But seriously, he beats his SISTER to death and he gets treatment for 4 months? Murder-insanity cases should be a mandatory 25 years to life in facility.

This guy might very well be insane, but if he is that far gone execute him.

I believe if you are committed for insanity you can be released any time the DR in charge feels you are ready.
