Khun Kao
Let the ridicule begin.... "He's dressing for his own funeral...." "If he's going to BE impotent, he wants to LOOK impotent!" LOL If he wants to wear a suit, he shoulda gone to the NBA.....
Jaron
The League not allowing him to wear a suit is ridiculous. Coaches wearing suits puts forth a much better image for the league than them wearing sweatshirts and windpants. IowaSkin is dead on with his comments as well. andyman
from profootballtalk.com: So we contacted NFL V.P. of media relations Greg Aiello to get more information regarding the situation. In response, Aiello shared the league's perspective. "For the past eight seasons," Aiello said, "all sideline personnel, including head coaches, have been required to wear team-issued apparel on game day. This requirement is part of the coach's contract with the club. "By wearing the team merchandise, the coach helps generate exposure for the apparel through television shots and photos. This exposure helps promote the club and its apparel, which translates into sales. This revenue helps pay coaches and player salaries." But there is an exception, according to Aiello. "Coaches," he said, "are permitted to wear ties but must incorporate apparel into game day attire. For example, last year, Coach Mike Tice wore a tie with a Vikings sweater." So it sounds to us that: (1) Nolan and all coaches already have bargained away the ability to wear clothing of their own choosing by signing a contract to become the head coach; and (2) if Nolan or anyone else wants to look professional on game day, there are ways to make it happen. First off... who is "us"? Second... That is somewhat of a stretch to say Nolan has no say because he already bargained away the ability by signing a contract. Do you honestly think he's going to lead a protest by turning down the job offer? Third... if you think Mike Tice looks professional, then   Look, I appreciate your perspective and you bring up some good points... but this is ludicrous. The NFL is wrong about this. Period. *edit* But that doesn't change my opinion that Nolan is still a waste.
PCS
Vince could get away with it. He was Vince. I don't know. Suits and Ties? On gameday? On the Field, ( sidelines),? Next thing you know they'll be wearing their hair like Riley and sitting in chairs.

Tarhog
The only thing that leaps to my mind is that there are about a gazillion things I'd be worrying about before this if I were Mike Nolan. Keeping my job for more than 2 seasons being one of them.

I am an FAU (Florida Atlantic University) student, and the school recently hired Howard Schlellenberger to start-up and coach the football team. Anyways, he wears a suit and tie on the sideline (always with a pink dress-shirt) every game, and to me, it just kind of looks out of place. Plus, he sweats the f*ck out of them. Besides all that, I really don't see the big deal. Who gives a sh!t if he can't wear a suit on the sideline. Wear a tie with the 49ers sweater if he really wants to dress up (a la Tice). I think the NFL endorses dress shirts as well...he just won't be able to wear a blazer...which he'll probably be greatful for when he's running up and down the sideline hopping mad that his team is losing 78-0. chuckflhp
Without a doubt he should be allowed. The fact he grew up watching his Dad coach in a suit and wanted to pay tribute to him was pretty cool. I grew up with Landry and other coaches dressed to the nines. That was class. Someone said about a college coach in a suit looking like he didn't belong. He's not supposed to look like everyone else, he's the Head Coach! Sounds like Nolan just wanted to try and bring a little class and polish to his new job. He definitely has his work cut out for him. And guys, is it really necessary to insult the man like some of you are? I was really thinking the mods would jump on some of this. Hail :logo: P.S. I'd love to see Joe and the rest out there in some sharp suits. Show the youngsters how it's done. And by the way even when Tice dresses up, his clothes still look like he slept in them. kappaluvacee
The NFL should force rebok to design a suit for caoches that desire to wear them. It is the ultimate profressional look. The nfl could also make coaches wear large pins with the team/Rebok logo. That what the large college programs do that have endorsement deals. The Full Monty
They should let Nolan wear the suit, but just put a custom made 49ers pin on the lapel of his jacket ---- that's marketable if you ask me, Nolan gets to wear a suit, everybody wins. jrfriedm
I think this was a bad move by the league. They should want there coaches to look like professals and not like bumbs like a certain NE coach.
