TheREALJBird
Yea decided to start this thread for all the avid gamers out there, ones who play Role Playing Games in particular. What is ur opinion on the greatest RPG of all-time? I say its Final Fantasy VII, the game just had all the right ingredients, my personal favorite game of all time period. manichispanic
I 100% agree. SOmething about FF7's characters, setting, battle system that made it completely awesome.
Prosperity
It is between Final Fantasy VII, and Xenogears, and maybe Skies of Arcadia too. If I had to vote for one I would say Xenogears.

Ghost of
I don't know, I haven't played nearly enough. So I have to go with the one I DID play, Knights of the Old Republic. Final Fantasy....meh, something always struck me as a little fruity with that. I'm still wondering why the Lone Wolf gamebooks haven't found their way into RPG, especially with the new technology and systems. It has a much better backstory, depth, political intrigue and adult-level violence than anything else.
codeorama
Zelda has to have consideration. KOTOR was my personal favorite, but I can understand why many wouldn't feel the same way. Neverwinter Nights was up there for me too...

jpillian
Zelda was outstanding; but for me Dragon Warrior on NES ruled the day.
ChocolateCitySkin
I always loved all the Might and Magic games-- And Elder Scrolls of Morrowind was really cool. I used to also play on this mud when I was like 14 that was really fun. For those who remember MUDS
Ghost of
I heard Planescape, despite what we'd now consider mediocre graphics, was a GREAT game. Never played it though.
Southtown
Originally posted by jpillian Zelda was outstanding; but for me Dragon Warrior on NES ruled the day. I was thinking Dragon Warrior too. That and the original Ultima on NES were two favorites and a bit before their time. Romance of the 3 Kingdoms was fun too...

SOmething about FF7's characters, setting, battle system that made it completely awesome. yea to describe it in one word....masterpiece. all this talk has me tempted to start all over on the game and play again for old times sake. i've done everthing imaginable in it, gotten everyone to level 99 and gotten everything in the game, yet i could never get tired of it. iheartskins
I'd say Rogue. One of the first RPG's from like '84. It had all the elements but none of the graphics of today's games yet was still really fun to play.
Henry
I played FF7 but it didn't do anything for me. Pretty graphics, but it was way too scripted. I don't mind having an ultimate goal to achieve, but I'd like SOME free will along the way. That and the combat system was kinda weak. If we are talking MMORPGs my favorite so far has been Ultima Online. Its old and the graphics were never great, but it has the best character generation system and the most realistic player-run economy of any game to date. Once they added the non-PvP areas though the whole community got thrown out of whack and it hasn't been the same since. Right now I'm playing World or Warcraft, and it's pretty darn good. iheartskins
Have any of you played Star Ocean? I've played it with one of my buddies and we've really enjoyed it. The attacking mode is great, and if the storyline were better would make this game excellent.

phil_man
is zelda really considered an rpg? i don't really see it in the same light as a final fantasy or a xenogears. i recently played tales of phantasia for my snes emulator, now that's a great rpg.
