stevenaa
Ok, here's the situation,........ I moved into a new community in October. It is still under development. I live on a corner lot. Behind me is a house that faces the the road along the side of my house. That neighbor desperately needs to cut his grass. Now, I haven't met him officially, and I hate for our first meeting to be about his lawn care practices, but it's getting ugly. The grass itself, St. Augustine, is not long at all. It's the Crabgrass. There are clumps all around the yard approaching 18 inches. Aside from the ugliness, which I don't really see unless I walk around the side of my house, I don't want his crabgrass going to seed and spreading into my lawn. I spent 1-2 hrs. a night for 2 fricking weeks pulling crabgrass. Anyway, I'd love to hear some politically correct ways to approach my neighbor. This situation has awkwardness written all over it. I don't want a bad relationship with a neighbor.
Henry
One time when I let the grass go a little too long, one of my neighbors came over and graciously offered to lend me his lawnmower, just in case mine was broken and I needed it. I got the hint.
Kilmer17
Take him a beer and a box of baking soda. The baking soda will kill the crabgrass and wont harm the St Aug. The beer will kill the brain cells.
TheDoyler23
You could leave a note. That worked for me when my neighbor left their yipper dog outside all day every day.
skinzfan4life
Arent there laws as well as to how high grass can be? Not sure if this would classify. Do you ahve a homeowners association that regulates that type of stuff?
Doozinbrah
Call the city, let them know about your neighbor. They should then send a letter telling him to cut his grass or get fined.
codeorama
Spray round-up all in his yard when he's not home.
portisizzle
:puke: Did someone just say homeowners association?!?!?!?! Ya know, I would just get into a conversation with them about something totally unrelated. Then as the conversation continues start talking about your grass and such. Eventually, you can expand the conversation to include how he is doing. Ya know, give him some advice on killing the crabgrass.....keeping the lawn green.......hey Jim wanna beer?? Make it seem like you are just talking with him. Otherwise it will be awkward.
Mufumonk
I have the same problem. My next door neighbor has yet to cut his lawn this spring, and the grass *weeds* is out of control. I was hoping he would get the hint when I started mowing directly up to his driveway but even that failed to work.

Make it seem like you are just talking with him. Otherwise it will be awkward. That's what I was thinking...slide it in there in the midst of conversation. Something like "Oh, I notice you have a crabgrass problem too...man, I spent 2 weeks trying to get rid of that crap". ....or get some gasoline and a match
The Showstopper
punch him in the head and tell him to get his sh!t straight or you will kill him ........................ or you could say sir, would you please mow your lawn
portisizzle
Actually, is some fantasy world it would be fun to imagine how to MOST embarass and annoy your neighbor.... In that case.... call your homeowners association. They'll f*kc him up for you.:puke:
riggins44
You could always tell him you're killing the weeds in your yard and ask if he wants you to spray his.
Om
Rent a bison and set it loose to graze. Either he'll 1) get the hint, or 2) invite you over for a barbecue. It's a win-win.

BG
Maybe he's renting like me and his cheap arse landlord won't call a landscaping service to cut the grass, irrigate the lawn so when it rains there isn't a three foot pool, cut the trees back so giant limbs don't keep f*cking up his car or just doesn't care to spend four hours cutting this big a*s lawn out of the kindness of his heart. Or maybe I am just ranting.

stevenaa
"Do you ahve a homeowners association that regulates that type of stuff?" No, and heck no. I'm much rather deal with this than a HOA. I could call the city, but I don't find that to be very neighborly, especially since I haven't asked him first. I may go the "broken lawnmower" approach. Truthfully, I'm not sure he owns one. I don't think the grass has been cut this season. I keep hoping to catch him outside so I can just kinda bump into him. I want to get it handled because the neighbor accross the street started to make a disparaging remark but could tell I'd wasn't up for that. So, I thought I'd take it on myself to get it solved before the grass isn't the only thing getting ugly.

It is a long...long story but basically - before my wife and I moved into our house, a man next door to our house died in the house. A couple of mannish lesbians bought the house and "fixed it up some". They rented this house over the past couple years to some really nice folks. We had them over all the time.....watched football and drank beer.... Then the cool people left and the ladies decided to turn their house into a group home.....Yep....right in the middle of a single family neighborhood "protected" by an association. It has been a mess. They have not cut their grass yet this year. The police were here again today b/c the "overseer" decided not to show up and the "residents" were locked out and were freaking out. Calling the association only gets us accusations of not being civil / tolerant to people w/ mental problems or the less fortunate. It is ridiculous. The guys that live there are decent folks - but the company that manages the home is a joke...... Calling the worshippers of Lesbos only gets a deaf ear....they don't care - but they don't live next door to this.....I take pride in my yard....as do all my other neighbors. It is a pity. Columbia allowed this without having a public hearing about it? Is it a licensed home? What is being done by the police regarding the residents being locked out - aren't they in the custody of those who operate the homes? Sounds to me like you and your neighbors need to do some investigating...
