Campbell/Rogers/McCune Profiles "On Demand"

Jaron

Recommended Posts

For those of you who have Comcast Digital Cable, the NFL Network 'On Demand' has video profiles of ~ 50 players, including Campbell, Rogers, and McCune. They show clips from games, the combine and the Senior Bowl.

They show McCune being weighed and measured at the combine (sans shirt) and he looks absolutely HUGE.

I apologize if this has been posted before, but I didn't find any matches with the search feature.

That is McCune and he is much faster than Pierce. We was a track star in high school. Runs a legit 4.4 at that size. He also bench presses 535, which may have been more than anyone else in the draft. The guy is a freak athletically. Can he play? We'll find out.

I don't know what his WonderLick score was (I'll have to ask his girlfriend for that) but I heard that he sometimes forgets how to tie his shoes and he occasionally needs help dialing the telephone (all those numbers confuse him).

Anyways he sure looks good coming off the bus.

Actually he scored a 20 on his Wonderlic. I love how people automatically judge him on the way he speaks.

McCune appears to be -- looks included -- an ideal special teams monster of the Manusky variety. Whether he can play MLB at the pro level is to be determined.

Oh, and Molassey, I think BCS was just foolin around... I think. :paranoid:

People are automatically saying he's not smart because of the way he talks, I remember a thread about it. No-one was saying anything about football smarts, and the comment BCS made seemed to suggest that he's just dumb as a brick. Which based on his score, he seems to know something. Now if we're talking about reading plays, Brett Farve had a problem reading plays, Patrick Ramsey has troubles reading play, Lavar Arrington has the same problem. I don't think those guys are dumb.

I'm just so sick of people judging the guy by how he talks. I'm guilty of it too at times, but I try to correct myself. And sure the way he speaks can give you the wrong impression, but I don't see people looking past that. Some of you guys around here seem to get all hung up on how he talks, or how Clinton Portis talks or any of these guys, and use it to jab at their intelligence. It's bull**** and it really pisses me off! Just cause a guy talks using slang, or has a deep southern drawl, he must be a knucklehead dumbass. I'm sorry, I know I'm going on a rant, but it's unnecessary. And GA, I'm not really trying to direct this at you, it's just something that's been bothering me, and you just happened to be in my way at the time I went off on my tantrum.

SSM: What you're seeing is that people generally correlate being articulate and having good diction with intelligence and the lack of either or both to being either uneducated or stupid. It's tough to judge these guys in any other way than how they talk--it's our only insight into who they are given that we don't have access to direct discussion and/or playbook study sessions with them.

Is it unfair to judge people superficially and on this point alone? Sure, but it's the only way we can consider whether or not they are in fact intelligent.

This is not to say that your point isn't well taken.

But i was talking bout football smarts not how smart he really is.

Like I said, I wasn't trying to get in your case, I just happened to read some comments that seemed to suggest the guy was one step from being a retard. In-fact, you saying, just now in that one sentence, that you've seen scouting reports that said he's had problems reading plays, say much more than all of these people going around saying, "Harharhar, listen to this guy talk, he's stupid!".

BTW, we're in the same boat, I'm from Baltimore and I live in Atlanta now, when I first moved here, all people ever asked me, as a kid, was why I talked so "white".

IheartSkins, I see your point, and I understand it 100%. Just like I said, sometimes I'll judge someone by how they talk, but I learned not to quickly because I've met some really smart people who don't talk like they just walked out of a Prep School. And I've also met people who are dumb as hell, but they talk like they're some sort of scholar. I'm just saying it goes both ways.

Molassy you've been around long enough to know me better than that-- or at least I hope you have. Anyways I rarely pass up an opportunity for levity but I'm mostly harmless as long as you don't count the ones I buried out back.

By the way for the record I've never even heard him speak. Now did you judge me too quickly? ;)

Absolutely true SSM. Unfortunately, I have to work with a couple people that sit squarely within the bounds of the second class of folks. It's funny too--the Editor of the Law Review (the highest academic honor in law school) at my law school is someone who you'd never think had graduated from college. The guy is full of slang and the rest--but when it comes down to drafting pleadings and/or constructing arguments, there are few that are better.

 Yeah, I just reread your post, I didn't realize you said "Wonderlick. Had I noticed that I would have taken it as more of a joke. Sorry.

I've still been seeing people make snide comments in regards to his deep southern drawl, as if he's not smart just because of that.
