At Redskins rookie minicamp

THE SLEEPER: Fourth-round draft pick Manuel White Jr. is switching from running back to H-back. But the position change isn't causing the UCLA product to lose any sleep. Not that much does. White lists sleeping and reading the Bible as his hobbies.

"The bed was fine," White said of his weekend accommodations at a hotel near Redskin Park. "The time change [from California] is the only hard part when it comes to sleeping."

ALL SHAPES AND SIZES: Former Howard running back Roland Colbert (5-foot-5) is so short that at one point he avoided tacklers because they seemed to lose sight of him among all the bigger bodies. On the other end of the scale, former Norfolk State running back Tyrone Hall carries many of his 240 pounds around his middle. He was one of the eight players not invited back for the rest of the three-day minicamp.

BEST HAIR: Linebacker Jared Newberry, a sixth-round pick out of Stanford, began growing his braids three years ago. They now reach six inches down his back.

BEST HANDS: Steve Suter became a star at Maryland for his legs that scooted him to an NCAA-record four punt return touchdowns in 2002 and to ACC career records for punt return yardage and touchdowns. But the 5-8 receiver also has good hands. Suter's tumbling catch of a pass from first-rounder Jason Campbell was the best of the day, topping the sideline route on which tryout wideout Jerel Myers beat cornerback Carlos Rogers, the ninth pick in last weekend's draft.

WORST DAY: Zack Mills had a tough introduction to the NFL. The left-hander from Penn State not only had to put his ragged arm up against the rifle of first-rounder Campbell, the only other quarterback in camp, but Mills pulled a hamstring and sat out most of practice before being informed he was not invited back.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

"If you got it, let's see it."

-- Offensive coordinator Don Breaux nicely summing up what the minicamp is all about for the 71 players, especially the 51 who were at Redskin Park on a tryout basis.

Well, as a few suspected, Skins gaining an HB, ( converted), instead of another FB. Like that sleeping as a hobbie thing. My kind of hobbie. :yawnee:

well, theres another reason why Gibbs drafted White now, granted I have no problem with it.

I just saw that the skins brought in TE Tom Ridley in from JMU, I know his chances are thin, but our last JMU player should be in the Hall of Fame (Gary Clark!!!)

Damn Dukes...y'all got so lucky in the rain game here at W&M...Tribe should have been the champ

you wish man, other than the 2nd quarter where you showed some life, we dominated that whole game. The funny part is, Lang Campbell became a UDFA for the Browns, and with the way their QB situation is, he very well could play through the season.

Nice to see all the Dukes fans/alumni showing up.
