skinsfan51
1. What does the word "contract" mean in the NFL these days? After watching the antics of T.O., Sean Taylor, and others, it certainly does not mean "an agreement to do one's job as stated in writing and with an affixed signature." 2. Is the concept of "team" all but lost forever in this modern NFL (outside of the Pats, who somehow have it)? I'm getting sick of watching these arrogant multi-millionaires whining about wanting another contract and skipping out on their teams until they get it. Kudos to Andy Reid. When he was asked about the possibility of T.O. missing this upcoming mini-camp, he replied: "I don't know what he's going to do. And I really don't lose sleep over that," Reid said earlier in the week. "I just go forward. If he's here, he's here. If he's not, we move on." http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/3578040 As much as I don't like the Iggles, they are a class organization that has never succeeded upon the play of one man. They won before T.O. and they'll win without him now (unfortunately). Reid has the right perspective. These players need to understand that the world doesn't revolve around them. Play or leave. Are you listening Sean Taylor and Santana Moss?
Spaceman Spiff
Well said. I kind of ride the fence on whether they should be here or not. Part of me is happy that they actually ARE working out, meaning they'll be in good shape for camps in July. Another part of me thinks that if they really gave a crap about the season they'd be up here getting to know each other, etc. Moss would be working with Ramsey, Taylor would be getting better, Portis would be working with the new O-lineman... I'm a big Gibbs fan, I'll never be one of the morons around here who bash him. I'm not going to bash his draft choices, etc....but I will say this, and give me a few minutes to duck and cover... The guys from the U just don't respect Gibbs enough, plain and simple. It's the new jack athlete, the young guy with a lot of money who feels like he doesn't have to answer to anyone unless it falls somewhere between weeks 1 and 16. And even then, they don't always respect authority. I get the feeling that the guys from the U think of Gibbs as an old white guy who doesn't always know what he's talking about. There, I said it. Feel free to disagree.

Feel free to disagree. I agree completely about U of M. They are selfish and arrogant, and history proves this true. (Of course, this has nothing to do with the fact that I'm an FSU fan. ) It's not just our team, either. Look at Shockey. He's just coming around after bolting to the "U" in recent months. Gibbs understands the importance of team chemistry. These guys from Miami don't. They think only of Miami Chemistry, and that is not what we are looking for. GET TO WORK, BOYS!! COLLEGE IS OVER. Like I've said before: draft FSU guys. They play and play good. Gator players can't play and Miami players don't play. What good are they?
Spaceman Spiff
Yep, I saw that Shockey just got back to NY after being down there. I want them here, I do. Yeah, I said I'm happy that they're working out, but they need to be here building chemistry. My guess is that since their pro careers haven't been as successful on a championship level, they're just going back to a place where they know success. Make sense? At any rate, yes, college is over, you have new loyalties. Get your asses up to the mini camps.
redskinss
as much as i hate to see players holding out for more money while under contract theres a reason it happens, and more importantly a reason it happens almost exclusively in pro football. there contracts are not guaranteed. only there signing bonus is. imo a contract that is not guaranteed might as well be toilet paper. and on a side note why is it that nobody ever gets pissed off at teams that release players under contract thereby realeasing them of there obligation to pay them. its a nasty double standard that fans have an amazing way of ignoring because its convienient. If you guarantee to come to camp, guarantee to work hard, guarantee to give 100% on the field, and actually DO everything you GUARANTEE to do when you sign the contract, you're GUARANTEED to get PAID. Nobody gets pissed because most of the time those players weren't living up to expectations. And if they happen to be a cap casualty, they'll latch on somewhere else and make just as much as they did wth the previous team.

I'm not sure it's a matter of covenience, but I understand your point. But we both know that for T.O. and Sean Taylor to be demanding new contracts one year after they signed huge deals is just nuts. Neither of those guys will be released because of lack of talent. They are just greedy and think more of themselves than they do their teams. Ask guys like Troy Brown who did everything and more for a football team. That didnt stop the Patriots for letting him go.

SkinsandCanes
Like I've said before: draft FSU guys. So you want players who aren't as good as Miami players, but also holdout? See Coles, Boldin, and Walker. No Thanks. Miami 6 Fsu 0. See you on labor day.

SkinsandCanes
Aren't as good? So Santana Moss is better than Coles or Walker? I was refering to them holding out for more money. We'll see what Moss does this year. With one less year in the league he only has one fewer TD than Coles, so it's not that much of a reach to think that he'll perform better. Care to wager on whether or not Moss has more than 1 TD this year???
