what id really like to understand is how the packers are so ssmart because they got qb of the future with roger. keeping in mind that barring injury he will not see the field this upcoming year. but the skins drafting campbell with the idea to bring him up slowly or plug him in next year if ramsey doesnt work out.( and im not saying he will or wont) . but because we used pick on guy that wont play this year the skins were out of heir minds?????my only thought is because alot of media likes to dislike the skins and other look at the recent history( pre-gibbs and during with brunell ) and think that this draft is just more of the same.

You're on the clock. tick-tock

1. Freddie Mitchell.

2. Going against their main philosophy of not reaching for need in the draft and drafting Jerome McBust in round one and actually moving up to get him.

3. Giving Nate Wayne the same money we let Shawn Barber go for.

4. Locking up Todd Pinkston longterm to a deal that doesn't give much latitude to cut or trade him without a cap hit.

5. The Simoneau MLB experiment.

On the player management side, the biggest mistake AR and JJ made was:

1. Letting Blaine Bishop come back to start the 2003 NFC Championship game when a young Michael Lewis was already taking names when he filled in for old man Bishop while he was injured.

To be fair the packers have at least won their division recently and have been to the playoffs more then us recently.

My point is that not only is Phili set up for this year but they keep accumulating so much depth that it insures them of being good in the future as well. They proved this with their CB poition and with Trotter, Trotter wants too much money (Buh BYe) we can replace you, Troy Vincent & Bobby Taylor get old and want money they have draft picks ready to step in. Corey Simon wants more money, buh bye we've got Mike Patterson, Brian Westbrook wants too much buh bye we've got Ryan Moats. They got some solid late round picks on the o-line as well. sure it's not the fancy picks but plenty of late rounders have become soild NFL players.

Hey Have some respect!...We got 2 FBs in the later rounds. :D

The differences are so dramatic betwen the Packers situation and the Skins that it's almost embarrassing to have to type them out. But, since I'm such a nice guy....

1. Brett Favre is on his last stand. Everyone knows he has 1....maybe 2 years left. Ramsey is what, 26?

2. The Packers used their original first which was the 24th pick in the draft. The Skins traded a 3rd, a 4th, and what many believe to be a top ten overall pick next year for Campbell.

Well I'd be lying if I told you I'm not surprised by your answer.

I asked the question only because I don't think you've ever backed down from anything approaching criticism of the Eagles... which (and I speak here with an unblemished record of staunch homer-ism myself) kinda gets old after a while. I don't blame you for taking up for your team, but nobody / nothing is perfect, and we all need to recognize that once in a while.

but I stand corrected.

On to your regularly scheduled bull...err... I mean, posting :).

WB,

Your next post on Extremeskins is a quote that Art doesn't think having draft picks is a good thing, from, well, ART. If you don't have it up, you're banned. I'm gonna miss ya :).

I didn't know paraphrasing an argument by another poster was a bannable offense, Art. I posted what I derived from reading your long post on page three, I believe.

I can't believe you are going to ban me (well, actually I can after reading your last post but I don't think it is with merit.) I'm a contributor to this forum and have been generally lighthearted with all members of this board over the last few months.

Am I being banning me because I am one member who will actually debate you? When you get the best of me, I usually wholeheartedly admit it and laugh. When I get the best of you, you argue semantics (not really argue) that I paraphrased your comments and then threaten to ban me?

Honestly, I hope this was/is a joke because it doesn't seem like you from the other dealings I've had with you in private.

Yeah, I was using hyperbole you dope. ;)

I think fansince62 and Yusuf would argue that they've put in the good fight in "actually" debating Art.

The sense of self-importance and self-righteousness that flows from this latest installment of your wisdom is unmatched.

You understand, do you not, WB, that in order to debate someone, you must actually use the positions the person you are debating with has actually uttered. You can, within this basic premise, paraphrase.

However, given you seem to lack some comprehension skills, I'd avoid such attempts in the future as this example would not so much be a paraphrased return on something I spoke, but, a fictional account told by someone seeming like a child recounting an encounter with the bogey man.

I don't have the time, nor inclination, to respond to your fictional rantings. If you have a concern about something I actually wrote, attempt to capture what it was that was written. If you are unable to do so -- and, really, you are generally unable -- you should think about lifting a smaller rock, because apparently this rock is too big.

I'm all for you getting the best of me, WB.

Do so with reason, thought, and truth, and you'll whip me but good. Oh, wait, using that stuff dooms you :).

It took me a few minutes to discern and comprehend this thread since there were so many imbecilic remarks made on it.

But trying to get to the gyst of it, here is what I think the arguments are from the top

Those of us who think you should trust the pros who do this as their life, should stop telling people who don't trust the pros that our draft wasn't bad.

Ok ok, I think I get it.

First of all there is no way to immediatley judge a draft. Second, if we are still ****ing about Mike Williams, several us have stated in other threads the volitality in the success of WR's as well as the long term prospects for Carlos Rogers.

We gave up too much for Jason Campbell. I agree. I also am a person who would prefer the team to have 13 picks rather then 5, even if it means 6 guys will get cut out of those picks. It just increases your odds of finding a diamond in the rough.

On the Campbell pick, I believe people have made the argument as to why this is good pick at 25 (the trades not withstanding)

Campbell provides insurance. He provides depth at the most important position in football. He can be developed slowly with little pressure put on him and be allowed to learn the offense.

And the number 25 overall pick generally does not have a big cap number or big sigining bonus. So it is not as if we are breaking the bank for this guy.

I think we can keep both Ramsey and Campbell for 5 years, if Ramsey blows up this year and does spectaculor. Campbell, on his rookie deal will be cheap for a while. Ramsey, even if he blows up, won't be looking at Vick or Manning type numbers in terms of a pay day.

Having the insurance policy there though is key

I have a general question:

How did this ridiculous thread reach 5 pages?

I mean, re-read the first post. Heck, I don't even know what he's saying. Yet here we are on page 5.

Other guy writes a pulitzer worthy essay and gets 12 responses.

:)

The threads that seem to survive several pages are those that tend to involve contentious, or at least heated, debate between two (or more) members.

The threads that are well written usually don't garner as many responses because they tend to provide less to pick apart. Consensus doesn't yield vociferance. :)

EDIT: Clearly I can't spell worth a ****.

Start a new thread with your undieing support for Daniel Snyder. I'm sure that one wouldn't be too hard to make you say "mercy" to. ;)

You don't do yourself justice, WB.

I generally plead for mercy in nearly every thread in which you appear. And, I'm sure you could repeat enough false statements about Snyder in the love thread to make me do it again.

In fact, I KNOW you can.

I think everyone needs to give the draft issue a rest. We've never done really great with it. We usually get a player here or there that contributes and stays around a while. Let's just line up and play. If the players work hard in the offseason (and some of them aren't) we might be respectable. Heck, we might just be good. If we hadn't had the Brunell experiment last year, we might have been close to the playoffs. :helmet:

Well, if the Redskins first rounder that Denver will use next year is a top 10 pick like you expect isn't it a good thing that we already have the player on the roster to replace Ramsey? Because you have to know that our defense isn't going to get us a top 10 pick. If we are in the top 10 it will be because the offense doesn't score points. That will point to Ramsey considering we have a great RB, a very good OL and some good receivers as well.

Also, isnt it better to draft a QB that many feel is the best in the draft at 25 than to get a much more expensive top 10 QB next year who isn't any better and will have no experience in 2006?

I mean, there is a chance that Campbell will end up being the best QB of this draft. It's not like the highest drafted QB is always, or usually, the best. Wasn't Favre himself a 2nd rounder drafted behind who...........Yes thats right Dan McGwire and Todd Marinovich were both 1st rounders that were supposed to be wonderful but made Heath Shuler look like an All Pro.

Seems that of any team that Eagle fans would remember that the popular pick isnt always the right one. Do you still wish you had the other Williams over your QB of the future?

Hmm.

skinsFTW...hope you are right.....but one qualiification...it is open to debate whether we have a very good OL. so far....the proof has been rather obvious that we don't. we have a new center and a key injured player returning. one can hope - but until we see actual quality play I would log this one into the "it's all paper musing" column at this point. The O-line has been our problem child for the last several years.

Or the fact that when you give all your confidence in Ramsey, and you have two other quarterbacks signed on the roster you do not select a QB in the first round. And not one that will not pay dividends until a few years down the road, and also giving up a first round pick. That is madness, complete madness. This draft was terrible, but maybe Gibbs is right all we need are two fullbacks to put over the top.

Huh?
