halter91
that is a bad ass boat. My brother was on the USS Roosevelt, and when it came home from Iraq, it was soo cool. They played Lee Greenwood's song, and I was in tears all day. And sure enough, he was one of the last ones off the boat. Very cool pic though. PCS
Great pic. And the memorial in the back. Just awsome. Remember growing up, we'd visit family in Norfolk and we'd look at the carriers from the Hampton Bridge Tunnel. Every now and then dad would take us onto the base, ( he was Army), and we'd be right there looking at them.

I think it's been decomissioned, but man, what a ship. To think these new carriers are even bigger... it really blows my mind

Kilmer17
Hey Sarge, do you ever get to go to any of the outer islands? Midway or especially Wake? They cancelled the tour operator on Midway, so the only way civilians can get there is a twice a year cruise from Alaska to Hawaii. But Mannnnn I'd give about anything to go to both of those islands. halter91
My brother took us all on a tour of the ship he was on, wow, to think they spend so much time on that thing. The sleeping quarters are way too small. I would never fit into a bunk.
Rocky21
I heard it left the port in San Diego last Summer for a routine run and was out for 6 months. It would have returned sooner but it forgot where it was docked.

I got to go out to Wake on an airfield inspection last year. I'm a big WWII buff, so where ever I'm assignment I make a point to visit battlefields. I'm hoping to make it to Midway, but it doesn't look good.
