Reds designate Deion for assignment...

To make room for all their injured players, basically what it means is that he will either be sent to AAA Louisville, traded or my guess is that he refuses AAA and is released!

We will see how serious he is about baseball and whether he wants to be a Redskin pretty soon!

[ January 25, 2002: Message edited by: Die Hard ]

He has like 10 days to decide if he wants to play AAA, you are wrong in taking the who cares attitude, he may just decide to go to AAA and be promoted again by training camp (it goes both ways) or he lets the baseball comeback go and report to Skins camp, this is pretty big news that we've been waiting for dude!

this is totally "who cares?", like after the last few months the Reds will bring Deion back up. They are getting their hurt guys back and the only guy who bats worse than Deion is the pitcher...usually, sometimes he's better than Deion. Part-Time's baseball career is over and now the Skins can laugh their collective arses off at Redskins park.

Let's see how long D$$$n last in Boot Camp Carlisle.

I don't think he wants to play for Marty and a team that is not a favorite to win it all.

Let's see if Marty can turn him around into a human being and not the $$$ worshiper he is.

The chess match between Deion and Marty is getting more intriguing. In 10 days we'll have another move by the Reds regarding Deion's baseball status or lack there of. Sayonara Cincy! Hello Carlisle!

"Designating" a player gives a team ten days to cut, trade or reassign to the minors. It's not the players choice, its the teams choice. Almost always, if a team is going to send someone to the minors, that is done right away. There are a few exceptions but not many.

Right now the Reds want to see if anyone wants to get Sanders. Just in case they will wait a few days. I really can't immagine any Baseball GM trading so much as a six pack of Beast for the bum.

Within the week, Deion will be out of Baseball. Think we'll see him at any voluntary mini-camps? LOL!killtard.gif

Assuming he gets his release from the Reds, he's got two ways he can play it:

1. Piss and moan, burn his bridges with Marty and the team, and force us to release him. But I think even he knows that it could cause some pretty severe damage to his reputation. He's already known as a mercenary now, and forcing a team to cut him that was so generous with him should leave a nasty taste in the mouths of a lot of people around the league.

I know he likes the money, but this will really tarnish him.

2. Come back and play, show up for the camps, and try to win back some sort of repsect for himself with the team and coaches. He has the chance to be a leader and contributor to a potentially exciting young team under Marty. He'll play for a coach that appreciates man coverage and will allow Deion to play his game. And he gets a chance to not end his career with the reputation as a cheap hustler.

We'll see, but it's his call right now. If he comes back and shows he wants to play, I don't think Marty will cut him. If he tries to dog it though, Marty will find a way to nail his arse to the wall!

If Deion plays for the Skins this year, then you can kiss DAryl Green goodbye. If Deion says he will play for the Skins this year and participate from the start of training camp; then Daryl Green could be given the boot early.

Marty will tell Daryl: If you want to play football this year, it won't be with the Skins. So it's up to you whether you want to retire or try to catch on somewhere else.

Yeah I'm crazy but there's no way both players remain on the same team this year and if it looks like Deion does play for us this year, Daryl will be the old odd man out.

Doubtful. The PR nightmare would be overwhelming. The fans and media would be all over Danny And Marty for that. "How can you sit here and tell us how a dedicated, teamplayer oriented, and capable player in Darrell "Mr Redskin" being shown the door is in the best interest of the team when you are keeping for salary cap purposes if that is the reason a greedy, selfcentered, mercenary player like Slimetime?"

And remember the honeymoon didn t even last a week with marty and the press

hey terry,

1st,a little acknowledgement for tipping us off with respect to who could end up as our #2CB(greer)smile.gif. as for deion,i hope you're right and that marty gets this guy to negotiate a settlement. that would be great! i don't think deion's going to give back millions to us unless he has another big payoff waiting in denver or somewhere else. would he really give us back 4 or 5m just because he doesn't want to be here?

fans boo players, coaches,GMs and even owners all the time. we've all seen many incidences where the dissention manifests to the point where a majority of the fan base in the seats is rooting for the opposition! and deion doesn't give a hoot what other people think of him,not in the least.

as for his reputation,to me,it's already established that it's something he's riding at this stage of his career. deion's work ethic is a joke! and it's glaringly obvious when he's out on the field that he isn't in hitting shape! i've seen him over&over gasping for air, avoiding contact and on the sidelines riding the exercise bike to prevent cramping...or he's injured. champ bailey is the only guy we had(w/exception to DG to some extent) that consistently was out there breaking up passes that were well executed!

terry, you made an interesting point and it begs the question: why is it that deion doesn't want to return to the redskins? why is that? he's being paid a gawd awful amount of money. we now have a coach with excellent credentials and a proven track of success at THIS level! our new coach is very defensive-minded and also stresses a high level of ST play! deion the CB/PR should be loving this!

i'd tend to dismiss the reason as anything pertaining to last season! deion's disdain for returning is like,to the very second, synonymous with the hiring of marty shottenheimer! we were club med! this organization didn't instill disipline and hold people accountable. it's also been well established that accountability&disipline isn't exactly ray rhodes style! ray wanted robiskie, thus status quo! and deion wanted ray!

i feel that if deion was actually confident in his abilities he'd be all for coming to camp and competing for his position. i really don't want this guy hindering or tainting the development of our younger CBs. and that's all his presence on the roster would yield,IMO. we sure could use an owner singing deion's name like the dano did. hail camp marty
