Redskins (1-1) vs. Cowboys (1-1)

Are you ready for some football? It doesn't get much better in the NFL than the Redskins and the Cowboys on Monday Night Football. This week, the Washington Redskins will take on the Dallas Cowboys in the latest installment of one of the NFL's best rivalries. The Redskins host their NFC East rivals on September 27 at FedExField at 9 p.m. ET.

Head Coach Gibbs Joe Gibbs put it in simple terms during his press conference this week: "This one is big. It's Monday Night Football. It's Dallas. I don't think there is much more to say."

In addition to the long history these two clubs share in the NFL record books and on Monday Night Football, there are subplots aplenty surrounding this game.

Redskins head coach Joe Gibbs and Cowboys head coach Bill Parcells are two of the most successful coaches in the history of the NFL. They have earned a combined five Super Bowl victories and seven conference titles. They are both in the top five among active coaches in victories: Gibbs third with 141 and Parcells second with 160.

The two coaches faced off against each other regularly from 1983 to 1990, during Gibbs' first tenure with the Redskins and while Parcells was the head coach of the New York Giants.

The Redskins are aiming to improve upon a 24-27 all-time record on Monday Night Football and take over the all-time Monday Night Football series with Dallas: it is knotted at six games apiece. The two teams have played each other on MNF more than any other two teams in the NFL.

The last time the Redskins played on MNF was in 2002 when the Redskins lost to the Philadelphia Eagles, 37-7. The Redskins did however, play on ABC's MNF on Thursday night last season to kickoff the 2004 NFL season, defeating the New York Jets, 16-13.

The Redskins are looking to rebound after a tough loss to the New York Giants, 20-14, at Giants Stadium last week. The Redskins put forth another solid defensive effort, allowing only 62 rushing yards and only 277 yards of total offense. For the second straight week, the Redskins squad leads the NFL in total defense and in rush defense.

Mistakes on offense plagued Washington, turning the ball over seven times. The Redskins' starting quarterback Mark Brunell was forced out of the game with a hamstring injury in the third quarter and backup Patrick Ramsey took over.

"We made so many mistakes today," head coach Joe Gibbs said following the Giants game. "I think back and I don't know that I have seen that many. We need to take a long hard look [at the offense]. We are really putting our defense in a bad position. They kept on fighting hard today, but when you make that many mistakes you are not going to win games."

Gibbs and the Redskins look to regroup this week against the Cowboys, on the national stage. The team has a longer week than usual to prepare as they look forward to the Monday night match-up in front of the home crowd at FedExField.

I dont really find these stats very accurate at this point. I mean dallas having the number 1 offense. This makes no sense. The stats are skewed a bit from that viking game. I mean Vinny is not (and I repeat not) going to throw the ball 50 times in this game. If he even tries that, i would suspect he will meet mr arrington (like aikman did) and that will be all we will see of vinny.

I think the key to the game is listed above though. Washington must be able to run the ball effectively early. If that happens then the deep pass will open up and we will see some long pass plays for td's. I believe that if dallas has to rely on vinny and george we should be in good shape on this game.

As a result, of this analysis, I believe Ramsey is the guy to start. I think he will hand off early and often. Then gibbs will use the play action to get the ball deep to coles. Ramsey loves to throw to coles and coles could have a very good night.

Ok. If Ramsey starts as does well, then we will be right at home with a qb controversy. Gotta love it.

Yes, because we know the redskins ratings aren't skewed from playing Tampa Bay and the Giants:rolleyes:

Huh? The Cowboys had more yards against the Browns (441) than against the Vikings (423). And by the way, in their other games, the Browns and Vikings allowed an average of 283.5 yards.
