mookie0720
A big problem I am seeing on defense is that our CB's are playing too far off the ball in shorter/middle yardage situations. You knew that Warner was going to take a 3 step drop and get rid of the ball, and even faster than that when we are bringing pressure (which is most of the time). When it's 3rd and 8,9,10 why are our CB's 10 yards off the ball? Smoot and Harris were both beaten at least a couple times on plays where they started 8-10 yards off the ball, didn't close down and the reciever caught the ball for a 9-12 yard first down. Move them up closer to the WR's that way when Warner is getting pressured, those 8-10 yard routes for first downs aren't open, and he's either forcing it into coverage, or taking a sack. skinsfan93
When you are playing an aggressive style defense with your corners playing a lot of man defense, corners usually give the wideouts that kind of room to prevent the longer routes. You got to remember...a corner is back tracking from the get go if they are up at the line.

Mookie, you make a good point, however you need to realize what this 3-4 is setup to do!!! number one is stop the run!!! number two is pressure the QB and number three is to stop the BIG play... a 1st down in the middle of the field is not a BIG play! If you look at the game you will not see any BIG plays aginst the "D" 2ND QUARTER: 2:07 NYG - TD, TIM CARTER 38 YD PASS FROM KURT WARNER (STEVE CHRISTIE KICK). Drive: 1 plays, 38 yards in 0:08. Key plays: Strahan recovery of Brunell fumble at Washington 38. This was not a BIG play... this is called back on your heels! PASSING CM-AT-YDS IN TD LG -------------------------------------- -------------------------------------- K WARNER 19-25-198 0 1 38 That dosen't look like a BIG day for Warner!!!! You might want to rethink your statement above!!! See you guys MNF.... I'm there!!!!!!!!!
mookie0720
I understand you can't do this when you blitz both FS, and SS but we don't blitz both FS and SS on each play that these plays occur. All I'm saying is move them up just enough to that they aren't starting behind the first down line, b/c as a CB your first steps will never be forward, so they are going to back pedal at the snap of the ball, putting them even further back past the first down marker. As much as you leave them on an island when you expect them to come up and cover them man on man, you are leaving them on almost as much of an island expecting them to make the tackle 1 on 1, 12 yards down field with no safety help behind them. atlantaskin
Folks, Our defense is awesome. They gave up 14 points today and were on the field just about the entire game. Additionally, one TD came on a bomb (one terrible play) and the other came after we turned the ball over in our own end. Giving up 14 points when the O turns it over 7 times is superb in my book. Let's save the criticism for the offense. Did anyone else feel like Ramsey (despite 3 INTs) gave us a better chance of throwing downfield?
afparent
the defense did not give up 14 points. One of their touchdowns was a fumble return. 10 othe points came after turnovers. The Defense was awesome. We gave them the ball six other times, six more times then they should have had it. Defense was awesome
Aluadan
The biggest problem with the defense is the offense, simple as that.
mookie0720
I'm not saying the defense wasn't awesome. Everyone knows this game lies squarely on the shoulders of the offense. I'm simply saying the defense would be even better if they could eliminate these easy 3rd and 8,9,10 conversions that teams seem to be getting against us. Defense was awesome Yes, they did give up 14 points: Carter's TD + PAT= 7 PAT after fumble return= 1 2 FG= 6 Total= 14. Doesn't change the fact that we both think the D was great today.
