Who says Joe Gibbs cant stash players any more? :laugh: Clifton Smith is STILL a redskin developmental player in progress. :D

Lemons Signed to Practice Squad

September 15, 2004

The Redskins have signed linebacker Devin Lemons to the practice squad. Lemons re-joins the team after spending the 2004 offseason with the Redskins. He was released at the end of training camp.

Lemons replaces linebacker Clifton Smith, who has been listed with the NFL as an "injured practice squad player."

John Simon has a shoulder injury.

Smith had surgery on a torn tricep muscle. He's still on the squad but doesnt count against the 8 man limit.

No. You cant sign players off other team's IR list. If the Skins consider him healed later and release him, then other teams can sign him because he is then a free agent. Most of the time players on IR are so seriously injured, that by the time they have healed, along with getting back in shape, their season is finished.

Cincinnati a couple of weeks ago had the option of putting WR Patrick Johnson on IR or making an injury settlement with him, after he broke some bones in his hand. I guess it was by mutual agreement, but anyway they made an injury settlement. I then read that he is a free agent now -- except that he is still injured --which allows any team to sign him now, except Cincinnati. But no team is going to sign him while he is rehabbing, and Cincinnati I read has a waiting period and can only resign him sometime in November. :)
