Doc Walker blasts Redskin fans

On the John Thompson show on WTEM he said that the fans from Baltimore get it, not the "new" redskin fans. He says Fedex is a joke of a home stadium because the 12th man is soft. The fact we need an announcer to try to get us pumped is pathetic according to him. In the old stadium you only heard music from the band, nothing else.

A lot of fans called in and blamed it on the cheese and wine crowd, but doc said you don't see that problem in LA, NY, Baltimore etc.... he wasn't having any excuses said we have to admit being soft and we need to change.

Mentioned that the preseason games at home (i think there has been only one, don't know) was a disgrace to Joe with no one there.

What do you guys say to that?

He did praise the Bmore fans and their stadium said they know how to take care of you, not fedex.

He also pointed out that losing wasn't an excuse since they use to cheer preGibbs no matter how bad the team was.

There were 58,000 fans at the home preseason game and those fans came out when a Hurricane was predicted to drop 4 inches of rain on the stadium. It ended up blowing over.

I was one of the fans in attendance and it didn't look like 58K. However the post mentioned the attendance the next day. Lets see what happens on Friday.

I was listening, I agreed with him until he started the Baltimore fans thing. At that point I turned it off.

He talked about the circus atmosphere at FedEx, with the fireworks and music, etc. Everything we've mentioned here before. If only someone could talk to and convince Snyder to cut out all that garbage.

The place was empty because there was a Hurricane in town.

I was there, but it rained its arse off during the tailgate, but actually turned out to be quite nice after the game started.

The true judge will be Sept 12th, the place better be rockin' then.

Yawn. Baltimore? Is that supposed to motivate me? I cheer at every game I'm able to attend. I even cheered for the Skins during the debacle of the KC Chiefs game when marty was here, and that was DEMORALIZING! I admit, it is the only game I've ever left early, and I had a five hour drive home that felt like a sledgehammer of a hangover....from the piss-poor play. I wanted to write Mr. Snyder and request a refund of the ticket price that day.

From watching on television in Los Angeles, the Fed-Ex crowd does seem to be a different cat. Or maybe we have been too mediocre too long.

In the games I've watched on TV in Los Angeles since Joe Gibbs left -- the last ten years or so -- they almost never put the camera now on the band playing "Hail to the Redskins." During the Joe Gibbs era and when we were winning, that was almost shown during every game. :(

Even in the days of George Allen, the crowds were pretty roudy and loud.

The "wine and cheesers" excuse may have SOME validity. We have all these politicians and big business people at the games. Whe I say business people, I mean from OUT OF TOWN. These are NOT Redskin fans. Washington DC is second only to New York City and Los Angeles (who has no football team) for having citizens and visitors who were not born in the area. This makes for butts in the stands that don't even care who wins in addition to all the traitors who live here but root for the Cowboys, etc.

There is NO doubt that FedEx needs to step up the noise and represent, but it's also gotta come from those of us who love the Skins but don't go to games. We have to take tickets OUT of the hands of fatcats and traitors.

Joe's first pre-season game was a very rainy affair, with a hurricane in the picture. If it had counted, I'm sure the turnout would have been higher.

(BTW, Ravens stadium does ROCK. I've been there.)

Doc makes a great point. I drive my wife insane commentating every week how we are a late arriving crowd and that drives me insane. I think we are hungry for success. The last "big" game we played turned out to be the "pepper spray game" against Philly in Spurrier's first year. Prior to that game and throughout the first quarter, the place was electric and no one sat the whole time. I HOPE we will be that way this year. It has to start right here.....

Yep, that one really bugs me too. The people who need an announcer to tell them to yell on a third and long for the opponents shouldn't be there. And even if there are some like that, and there are many, they get the idea with all of us screaming around them.

Unfortunately, as much as I love the Skins, I agree with Doc... I have attended a lot of games at FedEx and in all but a handful, I have walked away from the stadium thinking how quiet the crowd was and how many fans from the other team were there. I guess in a lot of those games we were out of contention or losing, but still...

I went to the Ravens-Steelers game the night after the Skins-Eagles game last year and it was like night and day. I found myself sitting there thinking this is what a stadium should sound and feel like... I mean, I understand that the game was more meaningful for the Ravens, but I have never heard a stadium so loud...

I wasn't at the Hokies game the other night, but after reading these posts, I hope we can create that kind of atmosphere, or the atmosphere I experienced at the Ravens game (who by the way I hate but got free tickets), which obviously has rarely been seen at Skins games at FedEx.

Oh, and good call on the announcer, booma. I can't tell you how annoying it is when he screams BOWWWWWWWWWWEN on the stop, gain of 27 for Dallas... save your screaming for a good play, ya idiot. And by the way, the FedEx PA announcer sounds just like the announcer in 2k5... it's got to be him, is it?

Every time that da## announcer comes on, it is so loud, it's almost like he's telling you to shut up so he can speak.:cuss:

Nothing new here. Raven Stadium is better than Fedex and their fans are loyal. I think the reason our fans haven't done that great lately is we have been disappointed year after year. As far as the carnival atmosphere, it truly has gotten to that point. Almost every second is either filled with music, announcers or the play that is going on. There is no comparision to the ole days. Now can we get it back.?..sure, but it will be up to all the fans. We will not return to the ole days until the visiting team fans are minimal and everyone ignores all the hoopla and concentrate on the game. I hate to say this but we need to get off to a good start too. If we start out slow, then it will be like last year again.

I have never had the opportunity to go to a live Redskins game. That's one of the things on my "Things to do before I die" list. My knowledge of the crowds and FedEx Field are based on what I have seen on TV.

My question is this : What is the deal with the level of seats directly above the lower bowl? Every game I ever watched, you know the seats are yellow because hardly anybody is in them. Are there that many no shows?

We have season tickets in the club level section we drive from VA beach to every home game to include pre-season. We are true fans and cheer with the best of them. So it is not the section you are in it is the people around you. Before we got our season tickets we used to purchase tickets in various lower sections and found the same attitudes as you claim inhabit the club level. We were told once to sit down because a guy’s wife could not see the field because we were standing during player introductions. The people in the four seats were ticket holders from back in the late 70’s early 80’s. They sat there and acted as if they were in church. Cooperate owned seats are not limited to club level large blocks of seats are held by companies that will sell there tickets to the highest bidder. Oh and another thing I was at the first pre-season game and the club level had more people in its section than the 100, 200 and 400.

i understand what he's saying...but number 1 the team has to win. washington area has high turnover so new residents don't have the same reserve of good memories to propell them through losing seasons. look at the raiders--they have some excellent fans to the extent where there are sections of the stadium where it isn't safe for opposing fans. the raider fans didn't help help their record at all.

Incorrect.

The Redskins band plays after every score. I did notice at the one pre-season game this year, there were MUCH less audio commercials and the band would play instead, like RFK. - Hopefully this change is pernament.

You're right, the band does play after each score, but we get the loud pizza commercial after every touchdown as well. It seems much more dominant to me, and always quiets the crowd. But you are correct, the cameras should still be able to find the band up in the stands while they're playing.

I was told that at the Tech game there were no commercials and no music, which allowed the croud to continue making noise without being drowned out by the blaring garbage coming through the speakers.

You're right...I was at that game...and the place ROCKED! Then it fell to apart and was another loss. But..oh man....the pre-game atmosphere....and the first quarter was awsome. And lucky me....I had to sit lower level...beside two Iggles fans....sheeesh!
