The Sir
My friend and I just had a heated argument on the phone over who is better between Thomas Davis and James Butler. Thomas Davis is a junior safety for UGA. James Butler is a senior safety at Georgia Tech. Please don't vote if you aren't familiar with the players. Personally, I side with James Butler, and I don't think it's even close. I am a GAtech fan, but I don't think that's a key factor. Butler is 6'3 210 runs a 4.5 40 and has a 41' verticle. He was second on GAtech in tackles last year ahead of ILB Daryl Smith. Mel Kiper's first big board this year had him the #9 overall senior prospect in the country. I'd take Ernest Shazor, Donte Nicholson, and Brodney Poole over both of them in a heart beat.

You're crazy. I would have accepted Jamaal Brimmer, but that's it. James Butler is CLEARLY the #1 safety in the country.

The Sir
Look what this site has to say about James Butler, http://nfldraftblitz.com/Profiles/jamesbutlerprofile.htm Look at Mel Kiper's big board. Look at any site really. And Donte Nicholson played in a great defense last year and looked pretty good. It was his first year starting since he was a JUCO transfer. I don't know you see in Brodney Poole or what you could have seen. Couldn't have seen too much, he was definitely overshadowed by Everage and Nicholson. But he did establish himself as a true standout in your opinion.
The Sir
Nevermind, I just put it together. You're probably a Maryland fan still angered by what GAtech's James Butler led defense did to y'all last year. Actually, I can't say it was a James Butler led defense. Everyone did their part. Eric Henderson, Daryl Smith, Key Fox, etc. Dawan Landry laid out Steve Suter, that was a crazy hit. 7-3 victory, MD just never got anything going. Jon Tenuta called an amazing game. I loved how he was still blitzing late in the game. I felt sorry for the MD QBs.

Keep in mind, Shazor is only a JR so he still has plenty of potential to display. He's built like a LB'er (6'4" 230lbs), and has pretty good speed at 4.43-4.47 depending on the source. He hits like a train wreck. Kind of like our boy Taylor. And yeah, I know Butler is damn good, but I want to see him truly tested. My biggest problem is that he plays in the ACC, and prior to the changes in the conference, I had very little respect for the ACC as a whole. AJWatson3
i had james butler on the mind before i even saw your poll choices. the kid is an awesome athlete and a leader on the field. hands down the best safety in college football. i'd give brimmer my #2 vote though. and john tenuta has to be the most under-rated DC in college football. PennState11
Jamaal Brimmer is the best saftey in the country but if I had to choose between the other two i would have to go with Thomas Davis, hes always around the ball.
The Sir
I think James Butler is #1, and Jamaal Brimmer is #2. This poll wasn't really a Best Safety in college football as much as it was a who's better.
Chopper Dave
Butler, Shazor, and Bing. Brimmer may be up there too.
