Poll: Redskins Name Change

In light of Easterbrook's obvious bias towards the future NFL champions :D, I'm interested to know how many of you would remain fans of a Washington team that was not called "Redskins"?

Easterbrook's article: http://www.extremeskins.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=69849

Me? I don't know, to be honest. I love Gibbs and would probably remain, if nothing else, for him. But I really don't know. After being a fan of the 'Skins for over 30 years it makes me sick to even consider it (and I have to admit that I fear that some liberal somewhere is going to pressure the team into actually making the change).

Of course I would be a fan. But cut the jokes this team has had the name "Redskins" since 1932. And they were in Boston w/the same name for years previous to that.

If someone has a real problem then they can go to court to fight it. Oh wait, they already did and lost. So now they can shut up.

The team will NEVER change its name - everyone w/a brain knows that.

The funny thing is that In all my days of being a fan and hearing all this stuff about protesters marching & this & that I never see Native Americans leading this fight its always some....... nevermind I wont go there but you get the drift.

You can tell by the way we represent the name "Redskins" and display our logs that we are in no way & never have been disrespecting Native Americans.

If the unthinkable happens, and the teams name is FORCED to be changed, I think the team should either be referred to simply as "WASHINGTON", or we shorten the name to just "The 'Skins".

Or we could become "The Diesel"?

Easterbrook is a tool. No surprise there....

This is exactly right in all respects. :logo:

We would be called the Washington Braves if Snyder was forced to change it, and he will in the future, it will happen.

Actaully, from what I heard Snyder has the rights to the name Warriors in the AFL. So I could see him using Warriors over Braves if he ever had to change the name. Keep the logo. I could live with that.

Hail to the Warriors

Hail victory

Hail to the Br-aves

See what I mean?

I shake at the thought of renaming the team. Not that I would stop being a fan, that will never happen. It's just that I need look no further then the wizards to see how such a scenerio can go horribly wrong.

Warriors, isn't bad though. Sounds kind of cool. As long as we don't become the Washington Harry Potters or something eqaully as lame I'll be ok I guess.

To those of you who are voting that you would find a new team, can you really call yourself an extreme skins fan. We're talking about a name change here not a history or tradition or great memories change. Those things will always be here. Check your loyalty at the door.

I could remain a fan as long as it was we were forced to do so. If whomever our owner was, when and if the change ever happened in my lifetime, changed because he got tired of all of the complaining, then no, I couldn't remain a fan.

I agree... I thought the vote would be 50 or whatever to ZERO... to see 9 votes on here saying you would no longer be a fan is amazing to me... I will be a fan of this football team and franchise no matter what their name is, even if it was the Washington Cowboys... no joke.

I cant believe 10 DEGENERATES voted that they would not be fans any more.

THAT alone is embarrasing.

If we changes logos would you turn your back? If we altered our colors would you turn your back? If we altered our stadium, changed our fight song, if we....

Where does your loyalty end?

What a joke.

The name won't change... recent surveys have determined that over 80% of Native Americans polled DO NOT find the name Redskins offensive.

If they were to change..... I'm thinking:

Washington Arrow Shooters

Washington Spear Chuckers

Washington Scalpers

Washington Tobacco Inventors

Washington 1st Thanksgiving Participants

Washington Mazola Growers

:D:D:D

That's crazy talk!

It's the franchise, city, team... NOT the name that should matter... who really cares what the team is called. Of course I love the nickname the Redskins have, but a true fan should really care less... even if it was the Cowboys.

I think at the time that the name was given to the Skins minorities weren't allowed on the team. So it would be hard to believe that Marshall was giving the the Skins their name to honor them (Native Americans). From what I hear, he didn't allow a minority on the team until the 60's. How can you honor someone you don't respect? Back in the 30's people of darker color weren't considered equal. Thats a fact. They were looked at as lesser beings. Even being compared animals so to speak. The mascot name of Washington is what is racaially offensive to some native Americans. I'm African American and proud to be. I'll remain a Skins fan and can kinda understand the argument. I don't know Mr. Marshalls' mindset when he or whomever named the team. If the name was to honestly honor Native Americans then this a moot point. He's (Marshall) obviously deceased now and we can't talk to him but I love all D.C. teams and thats why I love the Skins. I never thought about the topic as a kid. But some valid points come up on both sides. I've heard some say well it doesn't bother all native Americans. That doesn't mean dialogue isn't needed on the topic. I go on in life despite certain things that happen concerning racial barriers but I pray on it and keep moving unless its something blatant in my face. I honestly don't know the solution to this issue but I hope its a peaceful outcome for all. :2cents:
