Not having seen a practice, I can only comment based onthe preseason games.

From the preseason games, I wonder if he gives us enough more than Simon to justify the difference in their salaries.

ON the other hand, I have bad memories of trying to find someone, anyone, to field punts before he got here.

Just to repeat the another opinion that I read here somewhere...

Most of the special teams plays are first team, second team and the like....

Special teams in the preseason is full of players just trying to make the roster. Remember there are 30 some odd players that will be cut before the season begins. When we have all of OUR guys out there it should be much better than in the past...

He's better at kick returns than punt returns. He's more of a threat to take it all the way than Simon or Thrash. Gibbs let Desmond Howard go because he wasn't a good WR, but he was a great kick returner as he proved in the superbowl. I think Gibbs will keep Morton because he has the same potential as Howard to take it to the house.

I'm in the "he's overpaid" for what he does camp.

When Brian Mitchell was our return man, he could be counted on to not only return punts and kicks but he was an effective third down back and emergency QB. He also excelled on punt and kickoff coverage.

To me Morton brings little to the table other than return kicks. Correct me if I'm wrong but in New York he didn't return punts, only kickoffs. I believe the punt returner there was Moss.

I can't stand to watch him run the ball. I keep hearing about his speed but his speed isn't helping us if he isn't elusive and that's what I don't see. Not to mention that a strong wind can knock him down.

I like the guy, but we have cheaper people who can fill the same needs.

Morton was Spurrier's attempt to "fix" special teams with one acquisition.

i think the overpayment of morton was a tactic to get coles from the jets. fortunately or unfortunately depending on who you ask, we got both.

a kr/pr is an X factor position. even at his best he's good for 2-3TDs a year. yardage/return is dependent on blocking so anyone with decent speed/agility could do that.

You have to "overpay" just a little bit to lure people from other teams. I'm sure we overpaid for everyone that we took from the Jets that year. But you have to dangle the carrot to land people you want. Morton is probably a bit overpaid. But he's the best thing we've had back there since Brian Mitchell. And I don't want to hear the "Let's bring back B Mitch" threads. The guy was released by the Giants. Tell me who they have that's better than him back there??? Nobody. Point is, his career is over unless there is a significant injury to some team where he can fill a void.

Morton will be fine once he gets to work with the ST that's going to be out there blocking for him each Sunday.

I love how we just think up things to ***** about sometimes. Why don't we praise the defense for throwing a shutout at Miami instead of "Morton sucks" or "Morton is overpaid"

Just like in the Jerry Maguire movie..... When he lost all his clients to Bob Sugar and Tidwell comes up to him and said... You're loving me now aren't you? Once he breaks off a few runs for big gains all of you will be loving him , no matter how much money he makes.

I watched Morton very closely at training camp last year. He was without a doubt the best RB on the field when he was out there IMO. Betts was hurt and Candidate looked a lot slower than I though he was. You want to talk about no power? Trung was your man. Morton on the other hand was elusive and very quick although I will grant you he’s no power back. He’s also not a guy who you could ask to be your #1 back. He reminded me a lot of Joe Washington.

Did he have a great season last year? No. Has he broken one in pre-season yet this year? No. Still, I like what he brings to the table. Time will tell if we overpaid. I’m not ready to make any judgments quite yet.

Remember the Old Schottenheimer Addage: Footbal is 1 part offense, 1 part defense. If we win one of those and special teams, we will win the game? I kinda like that statement. Morton has playmaking ability, and that ability could be the difference between 9-7 and 7-9. Same could be said about John Hall.

I am. He does not deserve the money that he is getting. IMO, no kick returner does. The only time you would bring in Morton as RB is if Portis is injured. If they need a "change of pace" back, they'll bring in Betts or Rock. Since Portis is almost as fast as Morton, and certainly more elusive, there is no reason to use him at RB now. Morton may be a good returner, but doesn't deserve that kind of money.

Morton is entirely overpaid for solely returning kicks, which he isn't even that great at. If he can get involved as a running back then his salary will be justified. However, he hasn't shown anything out of the backfield and I'm not sure he can even take the third running back spot. Thrash could do just a good at kick returner. But, then again, Morton said last year they didn't spend much time, if any, practicing punt returns, and this year they are spending hours on them. So, hopefully, that will spell more success returning kicks.

Wow, there's a lot of mixed opinions on this one. I think Morton is fine. He is quick & can make cuts fast. I like the idea of having someone for the specific reason to return punts & kickoffs. I never really liked having Champ back there returning punts because if something happened where he got hurt on the punt return, then we had to fill his shoes at corner. I kinda like the Mike Nelms thing. Nelms did nothin' but return punts & kicks & he was a shifty dude. He liked to hurdle a lot & people would always try to tackle him low...he would just jump over the tackle. I think Morton has the ability to make tacklers look stupid, so I don't think he is a waste of roster space. Ade Jimoh, on the other hand...
