Zen-like Todd
Oh well.. we have two starting OLBs... I'll reserve my feelings when I find out how much they paid him. We have plenty of other holes to fill, even though it would have been nice to have him back.
Cskin
and a follow up:

"Comcast SportsNet reporting Shawn Barber just signed with the Eagles. 5:30 news conferecne in Philly. Amazingly it's only a one year deal."

Hell, he could of signed here for a one year deal and then got the big money next year. I think this proves he never really wanted to stay here, and then to turn around and sign with the enemy?

Good riddance....!!!! indyskinsfan
Barber seems to very, very careful about selecting a team that will ask him to do a little more. This tells me he's going to be masking his defeciencies, (yes he has some), and he will look to be a spoiler like Dexter Coakley is to the Skins. Not overly big at all, fast, but Coakley does those things, that either Barber can't or, uh hum, won't.
Carlito Sway
Philly is far and away the class of our division; their D keeps getting thicker and thicker . . .

I'm only hoping that this will push them to lose Trotter - seems this sitch is getting acrimonious. I swear, if they got a decent receiver (save for Thrash) that would be a scary team. Seems they're going to hold onto Staley, too, so those will be some tough games . . . Romo
im surprised that he only signed a one year deal. maybe his injury prevented teams from willing to offere him anything longer.
NavyDave
Bye Playmaker I'll weep when he makes the pro bowl consecutive years but until then no biggie IMO
MikeB
Is it me or has an already scary Eagles D just got even better?

Bishop and Barber? Jeez...
NavyDave
I'm not worried because we still can win by giving them a dose of S Davis 25 to 30 times a game
Darth Tater
After Barber found out that he'd not pull in the big bucks, could he be making the same gamble he did by not signing a long-term deal with the us last year?
Guest fuji869
Maybe Brian Mitchell and James Thrash can show him around town?

Is Philly the place where Old Redskins go to die? I remember when the Eagles made the Playoffs in 1995, they had Art Monk, Barry Wilburn, Raleigh McKenzie, Kurt Gouvea, Jimie Johnson, Andre Collins (I think) and Moe Elonowhatever.

I wonder if Eagle Fans Complain about X Redskins like we Complain about X-Cowboys
Dr. D
WHy sign with the Iggles for one year?

I don't get it.

[ March 15, 2002, 08:16 PM: Message edited by: Dr.D ]
RySkins
I don't get why Philly signed him for a one-year deal. Its not like he's a 35-year old being brought in to help make a push for a championship.

And I don't think he is an improvement over what they had last year, especially considering the fact that he is coming back from a torn ACL.

Barber is a guy that I viewed as very expendable, and I don't think losing him to a divisional rival makes it any harder for us to beat them. Philly's defense is strong, but they are not especially stout in run defense. Barber will not help at all in that aspect.
PCS
Here, Len P. seems to think has the reason for a one year deal.

http://espn.go.com/nfl/columns/pasquarelli_len/1352172.html

IMHO, if the Redskins do not sign Armstead, they sign Barber. Notice that they still tried to do so. Marvin seemed to like the lad. Not having Armstead or Barber would have hurt. His size for a weak side linebacker is actually average. There are a few bigger, but there are a bunch right around his size. 6-2 237. There are actually some smaller than him and they play on defenses ranked higher than the Skins.

His stats from 2 seasons ago show that he can in fact play very well. His stats dropped off the following year, but that has been debated as a style of defense problem. Putting up the numbers he has, shows he can in fact, shed blocks. Lewis is known as teacher in all things tackling and specializing in LB's. Would have been nice to see Barber's improvement under Lewis' watch.

The concern here is his knee rehab. If he can fully recover from that, the iggles may have themselves a player.

[ March 16, 2002, 01:27 AM: Message edited by: Park City Skins ]
Rat_Boy
Their defense got better?

They got Bishop and Barber, and lost Caldwell, and could lose Trotter.

They were 16th against the run.

Barber has never been on a top TWENTY run defense, let alone 16th.

If you ask me, they just downgraded.

Can't wait to see Davis run over Barber.
MikeB
Bishop helps them in run defense much like Armstead will help us. He is a definate run stopping upgrade, period.
NavyDave
They can still be had by a consistent running game and healthy interior O Line and if we get production from our pasing game we should at the least split with them again next year.
