gbear
If Lavar comes out and plays like he has been despite the ankle sprain, does that give him the legendary status that Emmit Smith had in his games against the Giants and Eagles where he hwent out with sever injuries and still rushed for 100 yards? I always thought it was playing well hurt that made the cowboys, Emmit Smith's team. LAvar has been trying to rally the troups this season. It started with the first Giants game where he played hurt because he "sensed something special was about to happen." I think if he plays and plays well, this team will be his regardless of whether we win this game or make the playoffs. I guess that's a good thing after we've gotten rid of so many team leaders in recent years (Patton, Centers, ect.).
NavyDave
No. It would have to occur on the big stage the playoffs.
Henry
Well, if Arrington not only plays Sunday, but leads the defense with a dominating performance and we win, then we go to Philly and he again plays hurt and we win that one too, and so on until we finish 9-7 or so and make the playoffs, then yes, I'd say he's on his way to achieving some of the status that Emmitt has in his career. LaVar has a long way to go, but he certainly seems to be on the right track. ------------------ "Men, there's nothing to get excited about. The situation is normal; we are surrounded." bulldog
it may in the long run. The comparison to Emmitt is unfair to the degree that Emmitt's Cowboys were a much better team than the Redskins at the time and were as Dave said already in a playoff situation where the stakes and magnitude of the contest is much higher. but the character building some of the younger players have undergone during the climb from the 0-5 streak is a silver lining to the 2001 season. such a streak with all the negative media commentary will make the players appreciate to a greater degree the line between winning and losing and how they never want to be in this position again. Art
To be honest, I would not play Arrington this week. This game is less important than the Philly game, and I want Arrington assigned to McNabb while being as fully healthy as possible. While it would be inspired to see him show up and get out there, I think it's impossible to think he's got anything near full strength back, and we could be risking a continued nagging problem that will diminish his play each week if we don't rest him now. If we have him healthy and win these next two, I'll go on record as saying we'll finish 10-6. This team will be on a superior roll with a bundle of home games and some easier marks to come. But, without Arrington, it won't matter because he really has been a key for us. I'd suck it up, see what we can do this week without him and pray for a win while giving him a little more time off. I don't think we are looking at these next two as a possible sweep. We have to be looking at them for a split and a split could make a 9-7 record. At 9-7 if we sweep Philly, we are in very sound shape. Be careful with Arrington. Of course, at 6-10, it won't matter either, so play him . I think it really depends on what the team thinks about itself. If the team thinks there's a legit shot at 9-7 and therefore the playoffs, we'd be smarter resting Arrington than risking him. If deep down we don't really believe that, it can't hurt to play him. Deep down, I'm not sure we've earned that type of confidence yet, but, it's fun to dream . ------------------ Doom is in the box. Lowghost
Art, I agree 100% I want Lavar healthy for the rest of the season. To risk such a quick comeback on a bad sprain is dangerous and we need someone to teach Mcnabb how dangerous it is to try and run around the field when Lavar is in pancake mode. bulldog
while it may not be realistic given the up and down nature of the NFL and the Redskins' own jekyl and hyde tendencies, I would rest Arrington and sacrifice the Denver game to some degree concentrating instead on the "meat and potatoes" finish to the schedule: The 2 Arizona games are winnable. The Dallas game is winnable. The Chicago game is winnable. The New Orleans game is winnable. I think ONE Philly game is winnable. Even with a loss at Denver that kind of finish would get the team to 9-7. I think it is unrealistic to expect the Skins to defeat the Eagles twice, especially with the roll the Eagles seem to be getting on. Chicago is coming down. New Orleans is inconsistent. And the other NFC East games are a mismatch in talent, if the Redskins show up to play.
