Just an FYI ....

According to the local newscast at 10:25 -- San Antonio's KSAT-12, ABC Affiliate -- Steve Spurrier is headed to San Antonio tomorrow to interview with Red McCombs (San Antonio native) for the Vikings head coaching job.

They reported this as breaking news they had just received in the newsroom...

It's good to be the coach's son I guess smile.gif.

This is the most fun issue in a year guys. I love this type of thing :0. If Snyder can convince Marty to shed Raye, open the offense up JUST a tad, this team will be fine. I think the GM talk is curious, since if Marty is here, the GM is without ultimate say so, and is therefore meaningless.

It's going to be one heck of an interesting week smile.gif.

There's just no way Spurrier is going to go to Minnesota and work for McCombs and McCombs fat daughter who he is grooming to take his place on all football matters. It's just not going to happen. All he has to do is visit the state once and he'd run screaming asking if he can have his job back smile.gif.

Even if Spurrier goes elsewhere, Dan could fire Marty

on Monday. Then try to get Spurrier.

I think Steve has a done deal with some team and it

will be announced next week: whether with us or Carolina.

He wouldn't have come out if he didn't have a deal lined up.

It's becoming clear Dan would like to get rid of Marty and regrets hiring him in the first place. Maybe the GM thing is

to push Marty out.

I can see it now. Marty gets fired. Steve rejects Danny. We get Bobby B. and Mike Reiley. Argggggggggh.

This thing could blow up in Danny's face. If Marty is gone and it isn't Steve replacing him; then you won't get any quality coach to touch this job. They will see what had happen and wouldn't want to come anywhere near this job. Oh someone will take the job but I doubt they will be able to do much.

=======================================

Thing about Steve. He will retool this team to his style of play and you can see major changes again. I could see Stephen Davis traded with our #1 for the #1 pick ; so we can draft a qb. Those of you who think Steve will not make major changes and not having growing pains are deluding themselves. I can see a losing season in 2002 with Spurrier at the helm or any other new coach.

Actually, I'm starting to believe that Spurrier does not in fact have a job ready to go. He's quit because he wants a bidding war. The timing of his announcement occurred before, not after the last week of the NFL season to put every NFL team making a coaching change on notice that he's available. If he'd waited until next week with no offer waiting, some teams might have already developed a short list of candidates without him.

This raises a concern about him for me, that being that he may be more interested in money from a bidding war, and the prestige that follows it, rather than being focused on having the right fit and in developing a team to win it all. We already know that he's loathe to work long hours and to sacrifice his golfing, for example. I'm thinking more and more that this is a guy we just don't want.
