hail2skins
Why doesn't this guy just retire? After getting 51 the other night, MJ disappoints and only tosses in 45. Wiz blew out the first-place Nets by 22 tonite. Perhaps we're going to have a more interesting-than-normal winter season for Washington pro sports after all!!!!!! OrangeSkin
Sweet Jesus! When Richard Hamilton gets back, the rest of the NBA better watch out. Lakers, here we come!
Zen-like Todd
Hah, maybe the Lakers without Shaq. Right now, Jordan is absolutely carrying this team, more than even the high point totals would indicate. They are unable to generate any semblance of an offense when Jordan is out of the game. Sure, Laettner, Hamilton, and Alexander (wtf happened to him, btw) are out, but aside from Hamilton, where's the dynamic playmaker? Right now all of the other offense is coming from spot up three's by Hubert Davis/C.Whit/ Tyronne Lue on kickouts from Jordan, or the occasional putback by White, Jones, or Haywood. It's that bad right now.
fansince62
tco......coach collins seemed awfully pleased at the post game press conference last night. in particular, and what you missed, he is extremely satisfied with the defensive play the team is putting forward. he specifically mentioned this as the prime area they have advanced in. he also noted that the defensive effort corrected the lapses which led to the blowout in Indy. are the wizards world beaters? no. but, by any standard, beating a team like the nets is impressive for the Wiz - especially with 3 guys out who play important roles. remember also........the rook high schooler is a part timer this year learning the game from the bench. about 2 years from now......hmmmmmmm.....when jordan is done for good.......he will be locked and loaded. wiz pick up a free agent next off-season and a good draft pick they are going to be tough
Zen-like Todd
in particular, and what you missed, he is extremely satisfied with the defensive play the team is putting forward Oh, great. Thanks for telling me what I missed. You have absolutely no idea what I do and do not know. Please refrain from baseless assumptions. remember also........the rook high schooler is a part timer this year learning the game from the bench Riight. We all have high hopes for Kwame, but it's rather obvious that had we taken Gasol, Tinsley, or traded for Elton Brand, we would be in VERY good shape THIS year. I still think they'll get to the playoffs THIS year, but they really need another player to step up. Additionally, they need Etan and Kwame to progress to the point where Collins doesnt cringe when they are in the game. That should be Collin's goal for the rest of the season, along with keeping Jordan as fresh as possible for the playoffs.
TennesseeCarl
If that geezer keeps this up (dropping 6 points a game) he'll be right back down to about 23 ppg. And the guy had the nerve to miss a free throw. If he hadn't also had about 10 boards, I'd say bench him. Kwame might work out, but it won't be for the Wizards. Popeye Jones, on the other hand, may end up with Most Improved Player.
S Man
Guy who's not getting the credit here is Brendan Haywood. I made jokes the last two years to all my UNC buddies down here in Charlotte about his lack of heart, and skill, but the guy has come to play. The biggest thing they're getting from him is a guy who can defend the rim. Before he go back, teams would slash to the basket relentlessly. White is a hoss, but he's too slow afoot, and has no leaping ability to be a rim defender. Haywood, OTOH, has good shot blocking instincts, much quicker feet, and can slam a few home from the garbage can.
BogeyMan
My hopes for the Wizards this year were for them to fight their way to around a .500 record going into March. I was hoping by then that the rookies would have matured enough to help them squeak into the 8th spot in the East. Brown's performance so far has been a disappointment, but not a big surprise. Haywood has been a major surprise - so far the steal of the draft and a good possibility for rookie of the year, although that will probably go to Battier. However, if the light bulb goes on for Brown, this team is going to be very good. Remember, the guy has played 2 months of professional basketball - even Kevin Garnett wasn't too good his rookie year, and he got a lot more playing time because the TWolves were so bad then. Of course, the Eastern Conference is really bad this year, so 17-14 is nice, but not really a huge accomplishment. ------------------ If you can't be good, be good at it. Art
Brown is very raw. He's getting almost nothing for playing time and is going to develop slowly. I said I'd have been thrilled with eight points a game out of him this year. I still would, but this Bullet team is young and getting to understand the game some. It's not a contender yet, I don't think, but, come playoff time, when the young guys have some experience, I promise if we are in position to make it, the Bullets will be a very tough out. ------------------ Doom is in the box. fansince62
tco....i'll refrain from telling you where to put it....this being a new year and all. to quiet your delicate sensitivities - your post mentioned nothing about defense. i was relaying what i heard in the post game conference. my post wasn't an attack on you but an attempt to bring in additonal information. christ.......what is with this board? no doubt you know a great deal more than i do about professional B-ball as I don't follow it too much. previous posts by you have been excellent. SonnyJ
TCO, In absolute terms, you're probably right about the team's deficiencies. But this is the Buzzard's we're talking about. They are currently playing in a fashion that we haven't seen for years out of the franchise. Our expectations are so low that any signs of life from them is cause for cautious ecstasy. At least, allow us to dream.
NavyDave
The Lakers is the standard of how we should judge this years team? Uh know. The 76ers playmaker last year besides A Iverson was who? And yet with defense and the Answer shooting a ton of shots made it to the championships The same formula could more or less work for the Wiz. Rip Hamilton healthy can do the A.I thing Haywood can defensively do the Mutumbo thing Point guard is a push Power Forward hmm popeye,Laetner, etc equals the scoring rebounding Small forward we definately exceed the scoring and intangibles with MJ playing there and Nesby giving him a breather brings energy and hustle. So we do have reason for optimism this year and with Kwame being patient is the way to go and he will be part of our future thanks to the CBA he is better off staying here and being part of the starting twin towers in 2k3 will help him to consider doing that with Hamilton as our midrange threat. The Eastern conference has the Milwaukee Bucks and everything else is up for grabs currently ------------------ Take A Sip of the Marty KoolAid and Believe.
