bulldog
talk about instability? Chargers are now looking for their fourth head coach in six years.
Guest The Angry Buddha
ESPN says the only coach to be retained from Riley's staff is...(drum roll)... NORV TURNER http://espn.go.com/nfl/news/2001/1229/1302773.html ------------------ <IMG SRC="http://home.earthlink.net/~wahoofamily/flag.gif" border=0>
bulldog
Norv is one of the Lost Boys. He is a vampire you thought you had finished off but he just keeps coming back and avoiding that fatal stake to the heart
Guest fuji869
First there was Jason, then Freddie Krueger now there is Norval Turner. You can never finish him off he just keeps coming back!
Henry
Does anyone else find this odd? Riley went 1-15 last year, 5-11 this year. Why fire him after a four game improvement? He inherited a horrible team. Are coaches now supposed to have a two year rebuilding plan or its curtains? I might have given him another year. Shrug. ------------------ "Men, there's nothing to get excited about. The situation is normal; we are surrounded."
2cents
Weren't half their loses by like eight points or less also?? Dan can learn from this, don't make chages when you don't necessarily HAVE to. The Bolts were playing better, have a good young base, and now more changes. Look and learn Dan. Art
Riley was 8-8 his first year. He was 1-15 last year. And he was 5-11 this year. How long do you want to give the guy? ------------------ Doom is in the box.
Henry
Didnt realize this was his third year with the Bolts. But if that's the case, why keep him around after the 1-15 season? Still seems odd. But yes, if his team goes 5-11 after three seasons he should be gone. ------------------ "Men, there's nothing to get excited about. The situation is normal; we are surrounded." VoR
The only reason SD is keeping Norv around is Drew Brees.
bulldog
The Chargers were one of the worst managed teams before 2001. Beathard's last few years in SD were horrible both from the standpoint of draft choices and what free agents the team decided to keep and let go. Ryan Leaf hung over this franchise like an albatross. They say it takes 5 years to overcome the drafting of a bust in the first 5 picks in the draft, especially at quarterback because you make so many plans based on that particular acquisition, in terms of complementary players. The Redskins have still not recovered from the wasted years trying to turn lemons into lemonade with Heath Shuler and Gus Frerotte. Even after overpaying for Brad Johnson we still don't have a franchise quarterback.
NavyDave
Riley should enjoy the money remaining on his contractand go back to a college program. Norv will probably opt out and head for Miami as th New O.C. ------------------ Take A Sip of the Marty KoolAid and Believe.
OrangeSkin
I can understand giving the guy the axe...he started 5-2. Losing all the rest of your games after that is so Norv-like it's scary. Quiet guys are never good football coaches.
indyskinsfan
Keeping Norv means the coach has already agreed to keep him on as a OC. Now who could that mystery coach be??? Jimmy Johnson maybe? Stay tuned.
