Big Easy
While waiting for our miserly car dealer owner down here as he looks around for a few good deals on marked-down free agents, I thought I'd pop in with a statement and see if you guys agree, or if not set me straight. Chris Mortensen among other sources is saying that the Redskins are fine with the cap for the next couple years, but that there will be hell to pay in '06. If I'm Patrick Ramsey, I'm telling myself: I sure as heck better beat out Brunell, because the old "sit a couple years and learn under the master" deal is fool's gold. The team is geared for a 2-year run and will be turned over to me after it's dismantled and we're in rebuilding mode again, maybe without Gibbs." I admit that the media portrayals are influencing me. Your thoughts? Thanks, gang.
Pete
It does look that way to me also, but I'm a moron.....moron that later:doh: This seems to almost be the way of the league these days. Build for a two or three year run, then start all over again. Brunell is done IMO, but that's not to say a lot can't be learned from him. I've watched a lot of him over the years, and he was one of the best for some time.

Hog Fever
Honestly the media has been doom and glooming the Skins cap situation for years, remember 2000? We were never going to recover from the "100 million dollar payroll". While we didn't win a Super Bowl the cap hell everyone thought was on the way never got here. I think that on a whole our front office has figured out that cash in the form of signing bonuses can solve a lot of cap problems. If you sign a long enough deal to spread out that hit it all becomes manageable. In today’s NFL you can’t realistically plan for more than 2 or 3 years. In 2 years the whole landscape can change. The cap could go up, players could get hurt or retire. There just too many variables. As for Ramsey, I hope he can put everything together and be the starter here, be it this year or down the road a bit. You know we all love the guy around here but in the end I trust Coach Gibbs to do as he promised; to get the best player on the field at every position. If that happens I’ll be happy. Pat hasn’t asked for anything more and Brunell said in his press conference today that he was not promised the job. It might be naive but I believe him. Good Luck in 2004.
