Oldskool
I know that we have signed Portis and Brunel and those are big names but thats been reported for a few days now. Danny is known to make a big splash in FA and it hasnt happened yet. We were upstaged by the Iggles today and I dont think that we will stand for that... Who will be our sexy pick? GB81
I hope there are no sexy signings--I would be thrilled. While I'm wary of Springs, I'm happy about Daniels and Griffin and I think Rasby can get the job done for cheap. If we signed Robaire Smith and left it at that, I would be thrilled. We should try to devlop one of our younger LBs to take Armstead's place--Pierce possibly.
Art
The Eagles got the big prize and that's good for them. But, I'll take Daniels, Griffin, Springs and Rasby over Kearse as far as improving a team collectively .
Truant
Marcus Washington or Ian Gold??
carlsbadd
If Portis isn't sexy enough for you you need to get a clue.
dchogs
as long as it is NOT sapp, i'll be happy. i think we need one more out of smith, coleman, or berry along the line. washington at lb would be gravy too. oh, and winfield
ArmchairRedskin
I'd say Portis filled our "sexy" spot this year.

fansince62
they need to sign a pass rusher or I would qualify the defensive signings as a failure. so far...we have signed a bunch of Cral Powells on defense. NO EFFIN PASSRUSH. we will have our lunch handed to us. but it is early yet - as others are sure to remind us.
TC4
Remember too that Joe Gibbs is more of a "blue collar, lunch pale" kinda guy when it comes to players Hopefully these are the kind of players he thinks will fit that mold
Art
Al, Who is the pass rusher out there you want to sign to endow success on the signings? As far as I can tell there was one legitimate pass rusher available in free agency. That was Kearse.

fansince62
exactly. I'm happy we swung Portis. Irrespective of these signings, my point is that we haven't gotten any better on defense once you net out the loss of Champ. This isn't a short-term wank....it's more frustration that 10 years of poor personnel management on the defensive side of the ball have put us in this position. It's my personal wank. I love hardnosed defense more than anything. and we haven't had a championship caliber D for a long, long time. it's clear we're at least a year away from a good defense. we'll be competitive this year with occasional games in which we are clobbered. it will be frustrating. hope I'm wrong. SonnyJ
So, you're saying that Champ, by himself, is equivalent to Griffin, Daniels, AND Springs. I'm not going to blow smoke and say these guys are world-beaters, but I think the D will be better with those 3 and the new D staff than it was with Bailey last season. There was one guy available you knew provided a legitimate pass rush when healthy. That was Kearse. We didn't get him. While it would have helped had we, we can still have a successful offseason without him.
Yomar
Wistrom may not be Bruce Smith, but he is Phil Hansen and that would be good enough for me
TD_washingtonredskins
GB81, I agree 100%. We've added a great veteran QB, a stud young RB, two dependable DLs, a solid blocking TE, and a starting caliber CB. If we don't sign anymore than depth and maybe a punter from here on out, I wouldn't really have a problem with it. We don't need a LB at all. We could use another DL possibly but that's about it before the draft....
essex03
I am fine with no sexy picks. Perhaps we can win during the regular season and playoffs instead of the offseason this year. Wouldnt THAT be a switch?!
Neophyte
I, for one, can do without the sexy picks. They have not really gotten us anywhere the last 5 years. I don't think Kearse will play more than 12 games for Philly this year and I have my doubts about him getting into double digits in sacks. I don't really care about getting the sack so much as I care about getting some pressure, any pressure.
Danny Montana
Hello All, Long time viewer of this tremendous website who finally decided to throw his hat in the ring. I can't say enough good things about this site. So much intelligent insight around here. I think that after today, as much as it pains me to say it..............Warren Sapp will be a Redkskin. I just think that Danny can't be upstaged by the Eagles. I think he was right to pass on Kearse, but seeing him sign with the Eagles must be eating him up inside. If Kearse had signed out of our division, I think it would be a different story, but having Kearse go to a division rival must kill him. Everything about Snyder is over the top, and defiantly so. He loves the pagentry of NFL ownership. He revels in being the revolutionary. Last year it was his attack of the restricted free agent market and this year it was the rebirth of the NFL blockbuster trade. And he has to love the Yankees-Red Sox "Star Wars" style pissing contests among owners in pro sports. I just think he won't be able to resist striking back and stealing the headlines yet again. It may be that going into this offseason our FO had a more conservative approach in place regarding the FA market (a testament to Gibbs' influence), but I think Gibbs may end up throwing Snyder a bone and give his blessing to signing Sapp.

We have to trust Gibbs and his staff when they evaluated players and made their wish list. Gibbs and his staff may have more coaching experience than any other staff in the league. You gotta trust him to be the Captain of this Ship. Spurrier and his staff was the least experienced NFL staff last year...and look where sexy free-agents and his wish list got us....no where. Coles excluded.
wwninja420
Last year's sexy pick Coles had a great year so I think there is a good and bad side to those types of picks. This year we spent a good amount of money on some players instead of spending all of it into one player. "Never put your eggs in one basket" BELIEVE IN THE GIBBS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jimbo
Welcome Danny and a very intelligent first post. You could very well be right about Sapp but I just don't think he's a Gibbs-type, team player. I just don't think he'll add much value. He may play well next to Griffin but he could also be a bad influence on him as well. I just see the negatives outweighing the positives at this point.
