Riggo-toni
Last year the NFL's 2 biggest free agent busts were both wide receivers. The hands-down winner was David "be careful I just got my nipple pierced" Boston Runner up was Peerless Price. I'm not talking about mediocre guys who get slightly inflated contracts but never pan out (i.e. Derrius Thompson). I mean guys that get signing bonuses in excess of $8m that teams now really regret paying because they've tied up so much cap space for some useless flesh (i.e. remember Stubblefield :puke: ). This year I think the biggest flops will be defensive lineman, and 2 guys stand out as being potentially the biggest overpaid underachievers: The envelope please.... Warren Sapp and Jevon Kearse Sapp is getting old and slowing down. Like Boston, he is a headcase. Kearse is going to be the NFL's version of Bill Walton... "oh, what he might've done if it hadn't been for the bum foot...." Plus, Kearse's pass rushing skills are built almost entirely on speed, so losing a step will mean the end of his effectiveness. And the scariest part is both these guys want outrageous signing bonuses. In fact, I think part of Sapp's contract is liable to demand a formal apology and reparations for slavery.... :thud:
jbooma
Riggo, Boston was a flop because Brees couldn't get him the ball. When Flutie was back there Boston was as good as anyone.

Besides that, Brees range was 5-10 yrds. How else do you think LT got 100 catches????
EagleSteve
I'd have to add Hugh Douglas to the flops last season. He signed a huge contract in Jacksonville then disappeared. At the time, he wasa considered the premiere FA on the market.
carlsbadd
Good call Blazers, I guess the Eagles fans were happy about that.

I'd forgotten about Huey D. :doh1: And another bust (though not quite mega quality) Brian Mitchell Have to admit, your Eagles have an uncanny knack for letting name guys go just in time (Douglas, B. Mitchell, uh...maybe...Trotter... :paranoid: ) At the same time, though, it mystifies me how bad they are (thankfully for us) at finding a competent WR. :whew:

The Evil Genius
Gardener for Denver was a HUGE flop last year. Mainly because he couldn't keep his ego in check and had to get into a fight - BEFORE the season.
EagleSteve
Originally posted by carlsbadd Good call Blazers, I guess the Eagles fans were happy about that. Not really happy. Hugh is a good guy and we really wanted him to re-sign with the Eagles. Then along came Jax with mega-bucks, far more than he was worth. At that point, there was no way Reid was going to match it. The FO's ability to recognize players past their prime will be tested again this year. It has been mentioned that since the Eagles aren't interested in re-signing Taylor, Vincent, Emmons, and Staley, that other teams will be cautious in offering them big contracts. They don't want to pick up the Eagles' past-prime rejects. On another note, Staley has stated that he will allow the Eagles to match any offer he gets, if they want to stay in Philly. Even with the holdout, he's still a fan-favorite and one of the few remaining locker room leaders. I'd love to see him finish his career with the Birds. Though I'm not holding my breath.
