inmate running the asylum
According to John Clayton and my records, about March 11th of last year we were $ 1.3 million under the cap. So where is this cap hell the media has been predicting for the Redskins? By John Clayton ESPN.com Below is the amount of money each team is under or over the $80,582,000 million salary cap for 2004 as of March 1. TEAM-BY-TEAM SALARY CAP UPDATE Team Cap status Arizona Cardinals $19.66 million under Atlanta Falcons $2.45 million under Baltimore Ravens $16.9 million under Buffalo Bills $6.4 million under Carolina Panthers $9 million under Chicago Bears $14.4 million under Cincinnati Bengals $10.59 million under Cleveland Browns $2.99 million under Dallas Cowboys $16.8 million under Denver Broncos $3.8 million over Detroit Lions $14.8 million under Green Bay Packers $2.77 million over Houston Texans $6.16 million under Indianapolis Colts $1.7 million over Jacksonville Jaguars $6.3 million under Kansas City Chiefs $7.9 million under Miami Dolphins $12.9 million over Minnesota Vikings $33.3 million under New England Patriots $837,000 under New Orleans Saints $18.57 million under New York Giants $7.3 million under New York Jets $1.26 million under Oakland Raiders $2.96 million over Philadelphia Eagles $27.841 under Pittsburgh Steelers $2.75 million under St. Louis Rams $7.8 million under San Diego Chargers $1.7 million under San Francisco 49ers $2.74 million over Seattle Seahawks $10.7 million under Tampa Bay Buccaneers $263,000 over Tennessee Titans $14.56 million over Washington Redskins $11.76 million under

Culpepper was signed to a 100 mill dollar deal 2 yrs or so ago. And Moss was signed a few yrs ago for 75 mill. They just dont go out and make free agent splashes. Red Mccombs is cheap, or wants to sell but doesnt want to put a committment in cuz they wont get a new stadium. But he'll go into their locker room when they lose their 1st game (after starting 6-0) and say he was embarrassed. They ended up 3-7 after that. Commander Adama
So, does that 11.76 include Champ going to Denver, which would free up 6 million, and the Portis deal which would count about 3 million against the cap? Also, how much is the Brunell deal supposed to count against the cap this year? Was that factored in?
Zen-like Todd
It doesn't count anything that hasn't officially happened yet, so when we trade champ, 6.8 million comes off the books, leaving us close to 18 million under the cap. Of course then you'll have to subtract around 5.5 million for the Brunell and Portis contracts. So figure us for 12 million under the cap after we sign Portis and Brunell. However, we can clear up more space by cutting dead weight like Trung (915k), and we have yet to see what is going to happen with Fiore and Noble in terms of retirement. Larry Moore's base salary is pretty hefty considering we don't know if he'll be starting next year, and the biggie of course is the Chris Samuels restructuring which hasn't yet taken place. inmate running the asylum
I dont why so many of you guys are so anxious to cut Trung Canidate. He provides excellent depth on the roster and has proven he can come in and gain 100+ yards when needed. Without Canidate, we would only have 2 primary backs with any real NFL experience on the roster. Portis and Betts. Morton is really a kick returner and proved at 186 lbs he was too small to pass block and McCullough has no experience.
Tmac1577
the skins will probably make more room by cutting trung canidate and larry moore plus some of our free agents the unrestricted ones will open up a little more cap space as well
RabidFan
Have we cut TE Chamberlain yet?
Tmac1577
I think Joe Gibbs is gonna keep byron chamberlain rabidfan
RabidFan
Why not, new regime new outlook and no bias on him.....plus he's big and has been a pro bowl talent.....I like Royal and think he can be good if groomed properly and stays healthy. Chamberlain should go out of his way to be a team player for new staff and show he's ready to work hard.

But he does provide excellent depth. He could be money for late third quarter speed on a tired defense.
Larry
The Ravens're $17 under? Those folks're scary. And, surprising nobody, the Eagles have finished second in the Cap Bowl, beating out annual contenders Arizona and Cleveland.

He had about 185 yards in one game with the Rams and another game with the Rams where he got 150 yards or so. And he would have had several more with the Skins if Spurrier had kept running the damn ball.
gridironmike
According to Pastabelly, anyone can do some fancy number crunching and come in under the cap. Who would like to apply for the job of Official Numbers Cruncher of the Washington Redskins?
Boy2Der
This right here is an example of Cap Hell Tennessee Titans $14.56 million over but you don't here anyone talking about that but you here everyone talking about how were in soon to be maybe someday near future couple of years catch up with them cap hell. I hope every team that says that goes to cap hell and tells us how it is .
TD_washingtonredskins
I wouldn't mind keeping Trung but you do have to ask yourself how many RBs you want on the roster. We're going to keep Portis and Morton for sure. Then you might not want another guy who is small and quick....who knows...
michael_33
I wonder if we can send Sultan to europe...Giving us Portis,Betts,Trung and Chad Morton at RB.... FB=bryan johnson and the ROCK..... I would guess Sellers is history...? What makes rock special is he is a much better runner than Johnson....And with 2-back sets, you really can't assume that the ball is going to portis....God I love this..!! NavyDave
I have this feeling that the millions.......... and millions of Rock fans are going to be disapoointed this year.................. I hope Redskins one first stop is to grab Robaire smith then Kearse since Tennesse cant counter.

Blasphemy!!! (Actually, I could see it happening. I just think we've got too many ball-carriers on the roster, so I see some of them going. I just hope Rock is one of the "keepers".)
