goldenster95
This includes the deals for Brunell and Portis and our four RFA tenders, Bailey leaving, and our two rookie contracts. Here's how it all breaks down: Currently: $18.5M under Brunell/Portis: $5.9M Four RFAs: $2.4M Two rookies: $2.8M Subtract those deals from $18.5M and we've got a working total of $7.4M. If we get rid of Canidate, that'll be another $915K, which would boost our cap space up to $8.3M. Getting rid of folks like Jimoh, Kevin Ware, and other dead weighters will push our cap up to around $10M. Here's hoping that we spend this cap space wisely. goldenster95
Yes and no. Jimoh is signed to a second year minimum contract. But he's dead weight cuz I wouldn't want him here on minimum wage terms. Add three of those fools up and you get $1M. Don't forget, we still have others to take their spots. Jimoh is just one guy and we'll be getting Shawn Springs to take his place.
panel
we need to restructure some contracts too don't we? Samuals' That could help.

goldenster95
Once again, yes and no. If we get rid of dead weight and re-sign others who are more competent, that's exactly what we want.

EDIT: to be exact you will be only saving Min Cap number that for example Jimoh would have toward signing a replacement...
Yomar
assuming we sign all of our RFAs and two draft picks, how many roster spots do we have to fill with that 7.4M?
goldenster95
I'm talking about both. I'm a little worried that we'll be tight against the cap if we want to sign Kearse, Smith, Springs, and Kleinsasser. I think Springs and Kleinsasser can be had for a cap number of $2.5M between the both of them. Smith might add another $2M. That's $4.5M. Then comes the doozy. Kearse. $2.5M is the lowest I can see him going for. If so, that's $7M right there. Whew! I'd say Kearse goes for more than that and he'll take our FA signings up to $8M. That'll leave us just at the cusp of our cap. Yikes!
Oldskool
My bet is that Samuels gets his contract restructured within the next 5 days.

Yikes! you need to take into account our draft picks as well... i know some of you guys love Kleinsasser but i dont think he is worth the money in the cap space that we have... EDIT: we can get some cap "relief" if we trade down to pick up a DT and a TE...
Die Hard
Samuels is carrying a cap hit of approximately $8.5 Million. There's absolutely no way the Redskins are going to have him eat up that much cap space. Expect a renegotiation within the next few weeks.
Art
Originally posted by Yomar assuming we sign all of our RFAs and two draft picks, how many roster spots do we have to fill with that 7.4M? Yomar. The answer is ZERO. The top 51 players count against the cap until the final cut down day. That means we can add 34 more bodies to fill out the roster above that and not one dime counts against the cap. I think as has been posted that we have like 67 guys so far. That leaves us with around 17 spots to fill. If we sign a guy who gets big money, you subtract another guy's pay from his total due to the Rule of 51. Whoever drops off. Essentially the $7.4 million will not be required to fill the remaining roster spots.
Yomar
thats good, we can give that 7.4 million to three or four free agents and call it an off-season

inmate running the asylum
I am hoping there has been a miscalculation here, being that the only published numbers on Portis/Brunell's contracts are coming from the rag paper the WT. Portis was scheduled to make $380k and $455k the next two years on his Denver contract. The WT implies that this was torn up and the Skins gave him a new contract. But was it really an 8 year contract or an 8 year extension on the Denver contract? If he just got an 8 year extension, then he could be playing for us the next two years at a bargain basement salary. I guess we'll know when the figures are finally released by a more reliable source then the WT.
